New clip that looks to be from some kind of Disney World event that’s happening now/already happened this weekend (the SW instagram account just posted a photo of the Spaceship Earth dome ball thing at the Epcot center all done up to look like the Death Star, but I have no idea when it actually happened). Anyway, a bit of dialogue between Galen and Krennic during the opening flashback. I’m a bit surprised to find that Mendelsohn uses his regular Australian accent in the film. That one other line we’d heard from him (“the power we’re dealing with here is immeasurable”) sounded more English to me, but now that I actually hear him saying multiple sentences it’s clear he’s just using his actual natural accent.

Yeah that is what sprang to mind Dali…

Jofavs can you reveal the name of the planet the Erso fled to. Is Lah’Mu stated in Catalyst?

Can’t recall offhand, I’ll look it up when I get a chance.

Just looked it up. The Erso family is in fact on Lah’mu at the end of Catalyst. Saw Gerrera brings them there, and Jyn is maybe two or three years younger at the time than she is in the Rogue One flashback footage we’ve seen.

Also check those long legged camel type creatures with stormtroopers on top of them on Jedha.

Serious Salvador Dali vibes.

Intriguing but you know when he is in that form and he is repaired and then after he shouts Noooooooo!

So this is before he shouts Noooooooo! and breaks out of that chair thing I hope we don’t see or even hear that 😃 don’t mind the operating table or mask scenes they are actually really good.

I can see it taking place before the mask and suit is fitted and everything like that.

So this is 19 BBY either we are getting a prologue or it’s flashbacks.

I would imagine we will be getting some form of Prologue even if Vague.

I think it’s far more likely that he either has a bacta soak regularly without the prosthetics or that he’s been injured recently at the start of the film. Vader’s origins really have nothing to do with Rogue One’s story, so I can’t imagine why there would be a flashback to that. I’d believe it for VIII, though. There’s no way this model is from the other movie, right?

By the way, I finished Catalyst. I’ve got a few quick bullet points that relate directly to Rogue One for now, and if anyone has any questions I’m happy to answer. Obviously, spoiler alert.

-When the rumor about a digitally-recreated Tarkin being in the film came up I had serious doubts, but now I’m expecting it. The Tarkin/Krennic rivalry was a huge part of the book.

-Saw Gererra played a somewhat significant role toward the end. The first time he turned up in the trailers I assumed our intrepid heroes would be seeking him out to enlist him in the Rebellion based on his experience as an insurgent in the Clone Wars, but now that I know he’s got a personal relationship with the Ersos, I suspect he’ll be a sort of protector for Jyn.

-The Force sensitive Rogue One character that was hinted at in some interview or other is Lyra Erso, Jyn’s mother. She talks vaguely about being able to feel the Force, but she doesn’t have any practical Force skills or abilities. I expect her to die in the opening flashback, so this isn’t likely to be a major factor in the story. The rumor floating around that the hooded figure in the trailer is an Inquisitor that’s introduced in Catalyst is at least half bullshit, as no such character was in the book.

-The Erso family is hiding from the Empire by the end of the book. Throughout the story, Galen Erso didn’t know that his Kyber crystal research was being used for the Death Star superlaser because Krennic led him to believe he was working on a renewable energy project. Galen never actually finds out about the Death Star, but he and his family bail when they get suspicious. The flashback from the trailer is definitely Krennic finally finding them.

-A Dressellian smuggler is heavily involved with Krennic, the Erso family, and Tarkin, and I’m really hoping he turns up in the film because I’ve been a fan of the Dressellian species ever since I got the action figure of the one with the eyepatch when I was a kid.

-The Empire definitely exterminated the Geonosians to keep the Death Star secret. The book never actually stated it explicitly, but we saw in the Darth Vader comic that the race had been practically wiped out at some point, and in Catalyst we see that the early stages of the Death Star’s construction took place at Geonosis and that Geonosian labor was used. Furthermore, the Empire wrecks a handful of other planets that were involved in the construction in the book, so there’s definitely precident.

In all, this was certainly one of the better nuEU books I’ve read. It and Bloodline are the only two canon novels I’d consider to be great SW stories.

Star Wars Despecialized Editions - Custom Bluray Set (Released)
Time

Still haven’t heard from either JMoomer or SteveE after a month, so I’m putting this to the community at large (maybe for a second time, I can’t remember if I already asked here or not). Could someone with photoshop make a documentaries disc label for SW to go with the other McQuarrie labels from that set? JMoomer used Revisited instead of the docs disc in his set, and SteveE only did ESB and ROTJ because JMoomer had already done SW. I’ve printed everything else, but that one disc is naked and it’s bugging me.

I’ve always assumed they were too. I remember reading about an early theory that Yoda was a member of the Whill race that Lucas soon shot down. And I think there was some speculation that the Force entities form the Mortis arc of TCW were Whills, and/or the Force spirits from those last few Yoda episodes, but that was similarly denied. This has instantly become the aspect of this movie that I’m most curious about.

Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread *

I’m either going to cut class on the 15th and go to a 7:00 or 7:30 showing or go to the midnight and take work off the next day or go in late. I definitely don’t want to try to deal with the crowd at a Friday night show after work.

Also, I saw the trailer before Arrival this past weekend and it was a really neat experience. I somehow missed the TFA trailer in theaters last year in spite of going to many more movies than I have this year.

Fan summary from a screening of the first 25 minutes of the film:

http://www.jedinews.co.uk/conventions-events/articles/rogue-one-presentation-mexico-city/

The huge thing here (as I see it, anyway) is that there’s mention of the Whills, and maybe the Chirrut Imwe character is one (whoever’s writing this is vague as hell). If they’re explicitly bringing the Whills into this, it could be huge. If this non-Jedi human is one, I’m guessing they’ve made the Whills into an order of Force-believers separate from the Jedi who concern themselves with keeping a historical record of the happenings in the SW universe.

Also, apparently there are no wipes.

Nien Nunb himself is still a smuggler as of the Princess Leia comic, which is set after ANH. He does have ties to the Rebel pilot Evaan Verlaine in that story, and there was speculation that she might be in the movie a while ago when EW released all those stills, but the character people thought was her was eventually given a different name.

EDIT: beaten to it.
