Star Wars: Battlefront 2 - controversy thoughts?
Time

So don’t buy him if you don’t want to? I seriously don’t understand the fuss. The game gives you points that you can redeem for Vader or the other locked characters for doing literally everything. Just play the damn game that you ostensibly like and bank the credits if you don’t want to spend the money.

Amadeus - Laserdisc+DVD Audio Tracks for 4K (formerly Theatrical Cut Restoration)
Time

So I just attended a screening of Amadeus with a live orchestra at Boston Symphony Hall, which was fucking amazing, of course. Anyway, to my surprise and utter elation, they showed a good-looking DCP of the theatrical cut that appeared to be sourced from the same master as the director’s cut blu-ray. Did it get an official release recently, or do we know if there’s one scheduled? I want to throw money at it if at all possible.

Huh, it’s been on BD for only 6 months? I haven’t popped any film more than once in that time.

“Popping on” =/= sitting down an watching all the way through for me. I like to throw on a familiar movie in the background while I work, clean, etc. Usually Star Wars or James Bond. I do also tend to rewatch things a lot more than most people though. I saw Lawrence of Arabia in its entirety three times last summer.

As time goes on and the novelty wears off, Rogue One is starting to slip a little for me. For whatever reason, it’s the (non-PT) film I find myself popping in the least frequently. I still like it a lot, it just doesn’t scratch my SW itch as well as the others do. I guess it might be the characters. Jyn and Cassian are nowhere near as fun to spend time with as Luke, Han and Leia or Rey, Finn and Poe.

Current ranking:

SW = ESB > TFA > ROTJ > R1 > TPM > AOTC = ROTS.

Star Wars "Official" Canon Content Thread
Time

So I just read the mouse droid story in FaCPoV. Is Tarkin canonically gay now? Was that nameless officer someone else like Motti or Tagge? It had to be someone that high up, and all signs seemed to point to Tarkin. I’m totally down with the recent push for inclusivity in SW media, but making the creepy mass murdering Nazi-inspired villain gay feels like kind of a retrograde trope.

As much as I hate the prequels, saying that the Holiday Special is better is absurd. The Holiday Special is the most boring piece of media ever created. It’s not so bad it’s good, it’s so bad it’s really bad.

It’s so bad that even the Rifftrax guys couldn’t save it, and I had to turn it off halfway through despite their valiant attempt to hold my interest.

Oh come on, it had one of my favorite riffs of all time (“What are you supposed to be, tobacco?”). Granted, it was during the Fruit of the Loom commercial, so it might not actually count.

James Bond 007 Thread

Anyone else listening to the James Bonding podcast and following along with their rewatch? They’re doing a movie every other week with each host alternating who chooses. They’ve done Goldeneye, Goldfinger, A View to a Kill, Tomorrow Never Dies, The Living Daylights, and License to Kill so far (they did all of them a couple years ago with different guests). Next up is Skyfall.

The new Star Wars comics - a general discussion thread
Time

Oh hey, this thread is back. Not much has changed. Doctor Aphra and Poe Dameron continue to be my favorite lines. I’ve still only read the first issue or two of the new Darth Vader ongoing so I haven’t really got an opinion on that yet. Maybe I’ll catch up on that today. For some reason Captain Phasma #1 never made it to my box at my comic shop, even though 2 through 4 did. I ordered it on Amazon so no harm done, but it’s a bummer that I can’t start reading the series yet.

Does it mean the special edition canon of Greedo shooting at Han is now officially changed or is it (more likely imo) just down to the fear of nerd rage that including that part might provoke?

Pablo Hidalgo addressed this a while ago in this twitter thread:

“All that’s canon is that two people entered that booth and Greedo died. Reports vary.”

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

I mentioned the other day that I was listening to the full cast audiobooks of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy this week in order to refresh my memory before reading his new one, and that Garrick Hagon (Biggs in SW) directed the production and played a role in the first book. Well, I just finished book two, and who turned up in that one but Julian Glover (General Veers in ESB)! I wonder which Star Wars alumni will be in part three.
