Hey you guys, WHERE WAS SNAP WEXLEY?! Are we to believe he died in the opening space battle without any acknowledgement?

I mentioned this, I thought it was funny how easily a main character of the Aftermath books was killed off.

He’s also practically Poe’s sidekick in the Poe Dameron comic. Did they actually show his death or are we just supposed to infer that he was one of the many casualties? After the amount of attention he’s gotten in the nuEU, it’s strange they’d just snuff him out with no fanfare like that. If it weren’t for the specifics of the movie, I’d just assume Greg Grunberg couldn’t make it work with his schedule and we’re supposed to figure he’s just offscreen at any given time, but that line of thinking isn’t sustainable when by the end of the movie the entire Resistance fits onto the Millennium Falcon.

Yeah, I really want to see a time jump of 5 years of so. In addition to making it possible to deal with Leia’s exit offscreen, it would also give the Resistance time to rebound and become a credible threat to the First Order. Mostly though, I’m not happy that the ST thus far seems to take place in the span of a month. I really want to expand this timeline some.

I don’t know if we’ll get a time jump but I’m really hoping for one. I’m not wild about the fact that we’re two deep in the ST and we’ve only moved through about a week of story time. I get that Ahch-To has some kind of weird Force time dilation going on like Dagobah and Mortis from TCW, but the entire Resistance plot seems to take place the day after TFA.

I believe she actually said he was “gone”. To which Leia 200% should have responded with Luke’s “No one’s ever really gone” line. Anyway, of course he’s dead in the same way that Yoda and Obi-Wan are dead, but that doesn’t feel to me like the same thing as the way Han is dead. Dissolving into the Force strikes me as a positive achievement.

I’m not sure how willing I am to call Luke’s “death” a “death”. It felt to me more like he leveled up.

Anyway, I mentioned this in the other thread, but I love, love, looooooooove that it turned out Yoda was so cavalier about blowing up the tree because he knew Rey had already stolen the texts. “There was nothing in that library that the girl Rey did not already possess” indeed.

It’s just dawning on me now that Yoda knew Rey had stolen the books when he destroyed the tree. “That library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess” was meant literally. I love that so, so much. Quality of the puppet aside, I’m so happy we got playful OT Yoda and not dour PT Yoda.

^The Poe comic is wonderful. That and Dr. Aphra are definitely my favorites.

I’m halfway through Canto Bight right now. Neat little book, sort of reminds me of the old Legends Tales From… anthologies. I’ve read the first issue of the Phasma comic and will probably finish that tomorrow. I caught up on the new Darth Vader series a week or two ago as well and I’m digging it more than I expected. That Charles Soule knows how to write some Star Wars.

Just got back and I’m not at all ready to deliver a verdict. It wasn’t love at first sight for me like it was with TFA, but TFA had a lot less to process. I’m going to try to see it again before the end of the weekend. On first viewing of both TFA and R1, I had trouble settling into the rhythm of the film, and this one was no different. Now that I know the general shape of it, I think I’ll have an easier time letting it sink in. It’s also just a much weirder movie with a lot more going on, and that’s going to take time to figure out. The best analogy I can come up with is that if these movies were Beatles albums, TFA is A Hard Day’s Night and TLJ is the white album.

Disney to buy 20th (21st) Century Fox? (Disney has now bought them - 14 Dec '17)
Time

I think he’s just tired of having to field the question. I read the bit with the asterisk as meaning that this isn’t his area at all at LFL. He’s got to be sick of everyone assuming he’s the guy to ask by now, hence the saltiness. I’ve seen him express a positive opinion of the OOT in the past elsewhere, too.

Side note, does anyone know how to actually type an asterisk in markdown without having it register as italics?

If George himself isn’t the problem, I think when the ultimate 4K box set comes out, we’ll probably get a quick-and-dirty HD scan of an interpositive or release print packaged with it as a special feature, a la the GOUT. Not the kind of loving restoration we’d hope for, but something. If he is, I don’t think anything will happen while he’s alive.

Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * <strong><em>NON SPOILER</em></strong> * THREAD
Time

Just over 12 hours for me. ANCHORHEAD, it’s interesting that you’re avoiding craziness by waiting for the weekend. I’ve found that the Thursday night screenings are way less mobbed in these parts than the proper opening weekend ones. That was the case for Rogue One, anyway; for The Force Awakens I went to a different theater in a bigger city and there was a line. Which was actually super fun for me, since I don’t think I’d had the chance to do that before (maybe for Sith, but I don’t remember). Anyway, I plan to get an early dinner near the theater and head over an hour or so before the show. Man oh man am I excited for this.

EDIT: fixed my very unfortunate username mixup. It’s early in the morning.

Handman, I apologize for my shitty tone, I just can’t help getting snippy over stuff like this two years later where the answer has been sitting right there the entire time. I’m sorry if this was something you honestly overlooked, but so many people who harp on Rey’s purportedly unearned prowess/savvy tend to willfully ignore these details just to sustain their arguments. The fact that you didn’t employ the dread M-S word should’ve been enough for me not to assume you were posting in bad faith, so again, sorry. It’s just frustrating that there are so many people out there who don’t want to get it.

I’ve been sitting in an uncomfortable chair in a jury pool for three hours and haven’t eaten anything since last night. Not in a great mood right now.

EDIT: four hours.

EDIT2: got released 15 minutes after the first edit and had a boozy lunch at one of my favorite restaurants. I no longer need to do any bitching.
