George Lucas' explanation why the OT is obsolete to him

What the hell are you talking about. Both Attack of the Clones and The Empire Strikes Back are equally dark films. Both intercut between different characters in different places two of the characters having a relationship. Both movies are at the backfront of war. Both movies end with the character getting fighting the villian and losing because of lack of training and anger. Both movies end without the bad guys destroyed. Attack of the Clones is the best.

1. There is nothing on the Internet about The Ultimate Edition except a possible amount of changes that I have read on TheForce.net which is not all proven and is mostly a fan's wishful thinking.
2. George has never said he was going to do an Ultimate Edition, ever. This is all fan based decreed news spread across the Internet to spread disillusion. What Lucas is going to do is actually make a series based on the time period between Ep's III and IV, the Jedi Purge, which is more believable, and more frequently mentioned on the net. There was talk of a series before TPM even started filming.
3. And if they do do an Ultimate Edition, will you continue to whine? It doesn't matter apparently because he will never release the original's on DVD. All of you should just get over it and realize that your time is over. The 70's have ended, the 80's have come and gone. Quit living in the past. The time is now. The SE's are the final versions and even if they do make an Ultimate Edition, you'll just continue to whine about how different it is from the SE's.
4. You'll buy the DVD's anyway, no matter what you say you know you won't be able to resist. The only way this could work is if you boycott buying the SW DVD's which is less likely to work then this petition. George will never even look at this site. All he cares about his finishing his creation, wether you all like it or not.
5. I actually believe myself that both version should be released together, simply for preferable reference, because one, people like you make every other SW fan look like the stupidest people on the planet, and two, because you wouldn't open your mouths and crap wouldn't come out making SE lovers like myself angry.
6. And that's all I have to say about that.

None of this is meant to offend by the way, Mr. Jay. Go ahead and delete my account if you choose. This is my final word anyway.

According to the digital bits they have actual industry sources that support the existence of Ultimate Editions. I have known for thedigitalbits to be a very reliable site. Lucas has also stated that new scenes were already filmed during production of the prequals to be added into the movies latter. There is also the issue of the fixed lightsabers at the film festival.

SE Trilogy on DVD coming this Fall
Time
I am not against the original versions being released I just doubt it will happen. If it does it will be Lucases own descign and no fan petition is going to change that as Bill Hunt said it. Plus other then Han and Greedo I prefered the Special Edition. The new effects made the whole universe come alive much better. According to the Digital bits the 2004 DVDs will be different then the 1997 versions. It has not been officially announced but then again The Phantom Menage, Attack of the Clones, The Indiana Jones trilogy DVDs all included slight changes to the films that were not in the original official announcement or on the pakageing. All I really want is fixed lightsabers and Han and Greedo scene restoration. These will probably the versions that should have come out in 1997. I recommend you read Bill Hunts comments they are very informative on both this release and releases to come. Including the future Ultimate Editions which According to Hunt will be out in 2007 for the HD-DVD format.

George Lucas is a very rich and powerful man. He doesn't need Star Wars to make another penny to be well off. He's also made clear that no amount of petitions will make a difference, and frankly 50,000 or even 100,000 signatures is nothing compared to the millions of fans who don't care or even know there is a difference. A boycott is neither practical or realistic. Flooding mailboxes and annoying people with demands or threats will only raise their ire and fundamentally cast ourselves in a negative light, and open to ridicule and dismissal. Certainly if someone made demands or threats to me, I would promptly ignore them.

But we have to do something.

Besides being rich and powerful, George considers himself an artist. "We realize there's a lot of debate out there," says Jim Ward. "But this is not a democracy. We love our fans, but this is about art and filmmaking. [George] has decided that the sole version he wants available is this one."

An artist who was hurt when some of his fans thought his later more personal work was inferior to work he did as younger man in collaboration with others. An artist who is rich and powerful enough, and now arrogant enough to defy his nay-sayers and critics and forge ahead alone.

But he is still an artist, and art benefits everyone. It is the very meaning of culture. George the artist must be reminded that art in all its forms or variations benefits everyone in its continued existence. We don't bury our art history or replace it with something new, we treasure our history. We study it and learn from its natural growth, its changes from ere to era.

My point is that we don't make demands. I'm a patron of the arts, and a patron of George's for many years, as I'm sure everyone else here is. We established a relationship early on by paying for work that we enjoyed. George has moved on now and so he should. But regardless of whether we enjoy his current work or not, the work from the past must not be forgotten. It must be cherished and valued. That is what we must do. Not beg or plead. Never that. We must remind him of the value of of historical art. The original Star Wars trilogy is that art. It has touched so many, myself included. So that is what we should remember.

We have to convince him that there is artistic and creative value in preserving the originals for everyone now, and for future generations to see and learn from. I think that is something that everyone, including George might agree with.

I won't purchase the release in Sept'04, but I remain hopeful for the future after that.

Your pretty much correct. There are millions of Star Wars fans who either prefer the Special Editions or just don't care. I bet the number of fans who are willing to boycott the DVDs for lack of orginal versions is in the 10,000s at most. Those 30,000 - 50,000 lost sales won't hurt Lucases wallet enough. I will be surprised if the orginals do become availble.

I am 16 years old. Return of the Jedi was my favorite as a little kid. Once I hit puberty I realized how lacking it was.

It is good to leave unanswered questions. Thats what Episode 3 is for. All questions will be answered there. The story telling couldn't be more brilliant. The story of attraction at the brink of war. The story of how the sith set them all up. Such a complex story with so many layers. One of those movies that requires multiple viewings to get it all in. Haydens moments of childish behavior were not bad acting they were great visions of how such behavior can lead to ultimate disaster. A very great lesson who hasn't acted childish. Overall Hayden was great in his role still my sister likes him more then me. Besides being extremly sexy Natalie Portmans role as the girl torn between duty and attraction was also brilliant. Did I mention shes very sexy. I also thought making Jar Jar the one who gives away the power was brilliant. His role here was much smaller and much more signifigant. The action was great but not just an effects show. It helped move the story. It had everything you can possibly fit in an action scene. Hundreds of Jedi, monsters, droids, clones, tanks, space ships, aliens, lasers, a hottie, everything a Star Wars movie action sequence can have. Also who can forget Yoda showing why he is the Jedi master. My favorite moment in the whole Star Wars saga. Just seeing Yoda kick ass is worth the price of addmission. Attack of the Clones is a perfect masterpiece. Good in every possible way.

the evilest of evil villans

Another thing I love about the Terminator is he only said what was nessessary to complete his mission. He didn't say things like "Now you die" or "your son will never be born" he just talked when it was absolutly nessessary. One of the best momments is when he looks at the trucker half metal and says "Get out" and the guy leaves without a second thought. Genious preformance from Arnold. Terminator 2 really bummed me out with a good Terminator. He was so so much better as the ultimate villian then a emotional cyborg who wants to know "why do you cry" or "I need a vacation" such bad lines. I don't blame Arnold for this I blame bad scripting.

Ugliest villian ever - The Predator. As Arnold said its "One ugly mother fucker"

Sexiest villian ever - The T-X. Who can forget its arrival through the time displacment equitment.

Second best villian - Darth Vader. Black mask and James Earl Jones voice make for one intimidating villian. His criminal mastermind a imense force powers make him a Hell of a threat. I also like how he is introduced as the most inocent soul imaginable and slowly molds him into a twisted half machine brilliant work for George Lucas.

Best animated villian - Scar. He killed his own brother and let the hyenas ravage the land for his own greed. He had so much hate.

Best Villan Ever is the Terminator. I dare how anyone can dispute this. First of all he has that big intimidating muscluar look that Arnold Shawarchinaggar can provide very well. More importantly he was so unemotional. He always kept a stait face never showing the slightest sign of the implications of his actions. There is no way to talk this guy out of his plan. The plan is evil too. To kill a man before he was born. "It can't be bargined with, it can't be reasoned with, it doesn't feel pain or pity or remorse or fear and it absolutly will not stop ever until you are dead." Too many villians laugh evil, gloat, give the hero a chance. This guy just kills like a machine.
