i know these damn movies off by heart...

and dont make fun cuz i know your all guilty of the same crime!!!!

I watched the movies a bunch as a kid but after not seeing them for years how can I remember the difference between Uhhhh and Arahhh. Its really the most irrelevent change. Changes I did notice was the improvents to Hoth battle, new wampa, new Yavin, new explosions, new sarlacc, and living cities rather then abandoned ones. I noticed and loved all of these. I also noticed all the slight dialog changes but not something like Arahh and Uhhh.

However after seeing that scene it appears that McDiarmid was asleep or on heavy doses of pain killers when he recorded that scene.

Also that the make-up crew, probably unuccustomed to ACTUALLY having to do latex work after years of being shunted aside in favour of the CGI crews, have completely forgotten how to do their jobs.

Gee, I don't know why GL just didn't use a CGI Emperor considering that he has stated that he hated the limitations of Latex and puppets and that CG 'just seems more real' to him.

Give me the Clive Monkey-Woman Reville Emperor over this stilted crap any day. It's amazing but the Reville-voiced composite actually does a more convincing job than McDiarmid. That's not really fair I guess as McDiarmind did a fantastic job matching the OOT TESB Reville-monkey-woman with his wonderful performance in ROTJ.

This is just further proof of how much Lucas sucks and how poory executed, not to mention totally unnecessary, all these arbitrary changes to our beloved saga are.

I saw the new Emperor scene. It is a huge improvement in my opinion. Its easy to tell that the chimp eyed women is not the same person as the Emperor in all the other movies. Ian Mcdarmid also has a much cooler voice then Clive Revel did. Ian Mcdarmid is the emperor not a chimp eyed women. The new dialog also enhances the scene. It will probably help connect with Revenge of the Sith.

Warner has finally come around in many ways. Next year marks the end of the Snapper Case. They do cause you to double dip a little, but it is usually worth it as the rereleases fix something that was previously wrong like making a film Anamorphic that wasn't before. Also, most of their DVD rereleases are of movies that came out on DVD in the early days, so they are usually much better. I'm very pleased with the new Goodfellas DVD since it is no longer a flipper. It was a flipper before because it was one of the first DVD's ever released and there wasn't any dual layered DVD's at that time.

The only things I don't like about Warner are. There are still some movies need to be released in their original aspect ratio. Also, they do not do DTS or Seamless Branching. Other than that, I can't complain. Thank God the Snappers will be history. I just wish I could get replacement Keep Cases and artwork for the movies I have that are in Snappers. It sucks to have two Austin Powers films in Snappers and one in a Keep Case. The Matrix is the opposite. I like consistency.

I can't believe it took them 7 fucking years to figure out that those snappers such ass. I am very glad there gone. I never could stand them. There easily damaged service, flimsy manufactoring just makes them a total pain in the ass.

Greedo Shooting First
Jabba repeating his dialogue (The whole scene is rather pointless anyway)
Arguably the new Wampa
Luke's Ian-scream at Bespin, which has been mercifully removed
Jedi Rocks... ugh...

That's only really four, which is part of why I've never understood why the SE is so hated.

I agree on most of those but the new Wampa is probably my favorite change. I love that change.

All I've seen SW broadcast on is TBS (SE) and Fox on occasion (i.e. before AOTC opened). I'd really like to see the original versions on Sci-Fi (Hell, I'd like to see anything SW on Sci-Fi).

Lucas has done everything he can to prevent any channel from ever airing the original versions again.

MGM did accept Warners offer before Sony uped it and Warner did not want to up it more. Warner haven't been the best with DVD (remember those God damn snapper cases) but I do believe Warner rarely double dips while Sony does constantly.

Another American company eaten up by the Japanese. Not to mention Sony are the kings of double dipping DVDs. I hope they don't bring this trend to Blu-Ray.

THAT'S THE SORT OF CHANGE THESE SPECIAL ADDITIONS SHOULD BE ABOUT, FIXING DODGY EFFECTS SHOTS, NOT REPLACING THEM WITH MORE DODGY EFFECTS SHOTS.

I was using this as an example because its in the documentary doesn't mean it will be released as a movie someday.

Could Fox release the OT?

It does piss me off we are getting pan scan copies on DVD but not the original trilogy. I blame fox for this. Lucas hates pan scan probably more then the original versions. Why he released The Phantom Menace widescreen only at first and why he has an article at Starwars.com encouraging you to buy the widescreen version. Id take an unfinished movie over a cut up one anyday.

Nice try, Jimbo, but you know that most people here want the original films as they were presented in '77, '80, and '83. The documentary in no way contains all of the original footage necessary to do this properly. C'mon.

Technically you haven't seen the whole documentary. It might. Even if it doesn't combine unchanged scenes from the movies, documentary footage, anamorphic remastered laserdisc. Very little of the movies won't be DVD quality even then the difference between DVD and laserdisc will be small. Thats good enough man.

I believe Lucas is dead serious about his statements about not releasing them. I don't believe we will get them in 2007, 2017, or even 2177. I believe there gone. But with original version footage in the documentary in full DVD quality you can edit the original trilogy together quite easily with good video editing software. That should be enough to satisfie you. Its what you want right the original versions on DVD in full DVD quality. It just will take a bit of work to make. But if you love it as much as you do then it shouldn't be too outragous to do.

You forget George Lucas made Star Wars. The stooges are dead and those colorising it have nothing to do with originally making it.

this is ridiculous, these movies stood 'half finished' for over twenty years, they won awards, set box office records, made millions of dollars for Lucas and Fox, spawned countless copycats and created a Legacy that inspired a whole generation of film-goers, Yet somehow Mr Lucas is embarrassed by them?

Closer to the truth I think George is reacting to the negative feedback that his prequals have had, considering that these films are supposedly the exact way he wants them to be, his vision , under his total control and without the technical or budget constraints he had the first time around, He's pissed off and probably embarrassed that the public haven't accepted his latest ultimate creation with as much passion as they did for his earlier work (which he didn't as much control over) and the fact he has been knocked off this pedestal as the genius behind the original star wars trilogy, his best work 25 years behind him.

So he's decided to turn on the public who made him who he is "If they don't like my new films, then I'm not going to give them my old fims, which they hold so dearly!" "screw you guys , I'm taking my ball and going home!"

Problem with this theroy is he advertised the 1995 VHS release as the last time ever. Showing he was planning to replace the originals from the beginning. I also don't think the prequals are hardly less accepted then the originals. I know plenty who like Attack of the Clones the most and I don't know anyone in person who likes Return of the Jedi more then Attack of the Clones. I mean know one. Lucas is an artist. Most good artists ignore there critices and often change there work.

One extra thing. The Indiana Jones DVD includes a digital fix of the glass reflection between Ford and the snake. However the DVD documentary shows that show remastered with Fords reflection. Just saying don't get your hopes up. Still this does give you guys the opportunity to cut together the original movie using movie editing software and the footage of this documentary.

I agree with you, although I'm no technical expert on filmaking, you would think that it would be better to start with the the original source of the film (in it's purest form) before they added any of the special addition changes over the top of it. so it would make sense that Lowry actually restored the original version cut of the film, even if only for archival purposes .

The new Jabba for example could not have been done over the Special Edition Jabba. It would have had to be redone with the original footage. The original versions are about 40 minutes of footage between the 2004 edition on all three movies. Theres hope definutly but I wouldn't count on it. Until then these DVDs seem just fine for me.
