Speaking of the Sith Army-whatever, does anyone else really hate the new red armor variations? The red stormtroopers are pretty bad on their own, but the Sith Technicians, with their goofy, half-red, half-black helmets are just ridiculous to me. It looks so cheap and lame.

The whole thing just screams “merchandise” to me. “Look at all of the new toys we can manufacture! It’s the same model as the First Order troopers, just with some red paint on the helmet! Hey kids, Halloween costumes are ready to go!” It took me right out of the movie when I first saw it, with how obviously it was just a marketing gimmick; I felt like I was watching a toy ad, rather than a film.

I wonder if it would be possible to recolor the armor black? I feel like that would look classier and less like cheap plastic. Where do you even get red dye on Exegol anyway? The entire freaking planet is blue!!

(Oh wait, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that the red armor is made out of gammaplast, instead of the First Order betaplast armor. I take back everything I said about it looking like cheap knockoffs to sell toys. There’s lore to support it. 🙄)

like what every mega corporation does… with every franchise…

I agree with the Galaxy map. This is just my imagination ill share (i highly doubt it’ll be even possible). Start shot with Lando/Chewie in falcon while in hyperspace (trailer shot), and use a line of lando saying smt along the lines of “lets see how this goes”, transmission starts. While transmission starts, show said galaxy map (or hologram), when transmission finishes (in second half) cut to the shuttle scene, then scene with Ben inside. The scene would establish that one of lando’s actions is doing some recruiting (that we get to see) and that Ben was one of many that received/heard the message and that he was alrdy on his way hence how he got there first? just a thought, I have zero editting or vfx skills and what not…

Eh, whatever. The only reason I brought it up is because I enjoy having Kylo being independent from Palpy with his own goals and motivations. And since he’s the Supreme Leader of the First Order, I prefer to have them be two distinctly different organizations. One much more concerned with militarism, and the other wanting to instate a Sith Empire.

But that’s neither here nor there.

fair enough, like underlying thoughts and there were hints of that in the movie of Kylo having his own agenda etc. which makes it cool. In regards to the topic,it is lando’s transmission to the galaxy. What the galaxy has heard was “the final order begins” as in, in the galaxy’s POV, they dont know the final order is an organization, they think it’s a revolution/time era change. I think it could be either first order or final order and it would’ve had the same effect on any receiving end. Let’s rally up to take down the bad guys.

How bad does it look if you just crop out Slave I?

I’ve tried the resizing the shot in order to hide the Slave 1, but it adds a lot of pixelation, so the quality doesn’t look so great. What Movies Remastered sent me I believe is only 1080p, what I really need is 4K UHD; does anyone know where I can get it? If I crop it in a higher resolution should look good.

I offered my help before, I’ll offfer again. Can someone give me the timestamps? I’ll do it for u, in 4K UHD

Okay, I want to try this now. But does anyone have an idea of what footage to put the transmission into?

Still putting the sequence together, right now considering animating the entire Hyperspace / Imperial shuttle shot in blender because I cannot access The Mandalorian scene, I’ve already cleaned up the audio for Lando and managed to remove the kid cheering, but definitely should still be static / crackly when Kylo hears it.

do u need the scene? what do u need it in? I can try and help.

Currently been cleaning up the Lando audio from the Star Tours ride however; theres a kid speaking over part of the message, unfortunately all the youtube recordings of the ride have crowd cheers with the exception of the one I have found.

So, I have a pretty janky solution for this: put some crackle or interference over when the kid speaks like Lando’s transmission is going out slightly.

I love these ideas recently. And love the idea of trying incorporate a part of the star tours into this.

Further, removing the dialogue doesn’t solve the problem of gathering such a large force so quickly. You would need added scenes to do that.

To clarify, I’m not proposing a better justification for assembling the fleet so quickly. I’m proposing eliminating the very idea that the fleet was assembled so quickly to begin with, but rather that it was already assembled by the time TROS begins. Poe’s lines are a hurdle to this change because, as one of the Resistance’s top leaders (and THE co-General by the time of the final battle), he would presumably have some idea of the fleet’s actual size.

Yeah, this make sense. I honestly expected Lando or Poe would transmit an inspiring message to the worlds much like Ezra or Mon Mothma did in Rebels, asking them to meet Lando at some kind of rendezvous point. Not saying all the people in the galaxy wouldn’t be instantly swayed by Lando’s charm but it feels a bit of a reach to think the Falcon visited the systems one by one (considering most of them were also besieged by First Order forces) in such a short span.

This is the canon answer. He went in person to a few places but he beamed an inspirational message to the rest.

If you rode Star Tours when TROS released you got to see Lando’s message and everything.

Here’s a link to it if anyone is interested.

I really hope we’ll get a Mandalorian update for Star Tours.

If only there was like a released footage of that. not someone’s cam. I’m sure that footage would find a way into people’s fan edits eventually

Also re Lando’s recruitment of the galaxy. I interpreted it as putting two and two together, in the sense that the emperor threatened the galaxy that the final order is coming (debate of whether that was smart or not is another topic), luke skywalker restoring hope to the galaxy and Lando recruiting people would just be the snowball effect. Galactic version of “going viral”. People communicate with one another, meet at this point etc. and that’s what you see in the movie, the “galaxy fleet” showing up.

I don’t think subtitles are needed since they aren’t talking with the main characters.

subtitles for the audience to see… because im saying from an audience viewing this, it happens so fast, its a blink or miss it. because the puppet scene is a very clever way to show that the galaxy is aware of luke’s reignition of hope in the galaxy. just the scene happens so quick unless your eyes are glued to the screen to the last frame, it’ll hardly be noticed. but whatever, it aint my clip so not my say.

Here is the puppet show! It’s very short, but hopefully people will think it’s worth all of the effort. I’m sure I’ll need to tweak it some more, so I’m just gonna share a streamable link until it’s finalized.

Also wanted to note who all contributed to this very small edit.
I may be wrong, but I believe DZ-330, Cinefy and DominicCobb all had this idea at one point or another.
Proof of Concept by Cinefy
Clean Stage Plates by poppasketti and MoviesRemastered
Puppet Designs by Captain Faraday
Alien Dub by ThisIsCreation
Produced by RogueLeader

wow! that is incredible. Might I suggest the part showing the puppet show be slowed down, because it happens so fast, its a blink and u miss it. Another suggestion is since they’re speaking another language. Add subtitles to the dialogue (similar to when we hear some huttese relevant to the story) to give a more explicit sense.

For the topic about the suns, etc, I agree with Hal’s assessment: Match it to what Star Wars has shown. If it matches the style, then it’s fine.

As for the line RogueLeader showed, it’s flawless and just makes sense. I admit I have not watched Hal’s V1 nor the original movie in such a long time … I noticed nothing. So in the eyes of a first time viewer … there’s nothing that sticks out.

I agree. There’s too much focus on the minutia on this one word in this one line in this one moment, that it has very little affect on the grander picture of the movie. While I do believe there are times that they are important, after reading many pages of this thread, it’s a little excessive IMHO.

The vfx work looks incredibly stunning. Can’t wait to see how the video version turns out

Here’s an idea for an edit to the Battle of Exegol that uses some Vehicle Flythroughs footage:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XB4hSGtdD8o

That’s an interesting concept, It’s a shame how short the Exegol sequence is given it was the final installment, it falls really short when you compare it to Rogue One which is almost what you’d think a small spin-off amongst a massive franchise, Scarif some how got a well paced 45 minute final sequnce vs the franchise conclusion feeling rushed and only getting 20, any small extensions to Exegol by my opinion would really improve things.

I wish I could re-post a million times. Definitely not enough attention is given to the battle sequences of Exegol. That’s been my obsession, any piece of footage that could extend/enhance the final battle. I feel like alot of the fan editing attention has been on the minutia of the most minut of details (i dont mean this in a condescending or sarcastic way) and the debating of the merits of each minut detail. But what can i say, it is a FAN edit and the edits are for fans that pay attention to these details. And i havent the slightest clue on VFX editing (and im too dumb to be taught) so… Anyhow, any slight addition, modification that involves more ships, battles etc. I’m the first one to bark with excitement

Well, I have no idea how to actually add the lightning into the shot; but I was able to add the sound effects of Rey’s lightning from earlier into the scene. If anyone who knows how to do the lightning effect wants to take over from here, that would be amazing!

Am I the only one who was surprised to learn that Pryde was in the Steadfast (First Order Destroyer) during the battle of Exegol? For the longest time I thought he was just in a Final Order command ship.

Honestly, it kinda makes Finn knowing which ship had the signal through the Force super stupid. Like, of course the ship that looks nothing like the others has the signal.

while u guys debate the merits of XY and Z of narrative purpose, philosophies, thats like one of the first things i noticed.

i dont think its as “stupid” as it is. afterall, its more like amongst a sea of star destroyers ID’ing that one ship carrying out the signal. Thus, finding a needle amongst a stack of needles. Though, it presses more on how much of a missed opportunity it was to not follow up on Finn’s force sensitivity. It’s a cheap plot device to the average viewer, and a subtle hint to the fan that re-watches and re-watches.

I know the whole trailer music thing has been beaten to death but I am ‘working’ on the version placed over the climactic confrontation. I like where it’s sitting but I haven’t nailed the blending in and out. Yet.

That said I find inspiration in avoidance and have temporarily turned to my own cut of the battle for my 4K edit that is very much a work in progress. I still plan on using Topaz AI to upscale some of the VFX work of other editors and slot in the purple saber and force ghosts where appropriate but this is feeling like a pretty good first draft. Thoughts?

Heya! I’m working on a fan edit which I have used Topaz AI to upscale VFX work of other editors. Though the post is kinda oldish and the thread isnt very “hot” per say, you can check out some of my initial results in this thread.

I’ve been using Davinci resolve to do some HDR color grading (my skills are very noobie)

I was able to finesse it to make it work even so, as the purple blade is only on the far left for a few frames, using layering and cropping.

I was able to tinker with some of the other bits and pieces. I did find where 21C has posted the Mustafar shots. I will get that implemented with corresponding audio. And that way if anyone does want to explore the idea of adding trees to the foreground I could drop that in.

It’s the one found here, immediately following the establishing shot of the planet:

god damn, why didnt i find this earlier? i have an earlier version of the mustafar shot… guess thats going in V2 of my edit…

Thank you for the tips sir. I’ll see how my handbrake encode comes out. For my next versions and future edits (dare I choose to endeavor in more) I’ll use your adobe workflow.

Might I add, the color grading to match it to the original 4K HDR material is difficult as hell. I completely understand what you mean by it’s the best you can get it. I can spend hours for each scene playing with every parameter to find the best match possible.

WOW! thanks for such a detailed workflow approach. It appears that me getting my hands on adobe premiere pro would solve alot of my problems. It seems to be the do it all in one spot. I’m in the middle of encoding my TROS via handbrake and we are talking 100+ hours. So yeah… I’ll probably find a more efficient/effective workflow. thanks again so much for sharing your workflow. you dont know how much this will help me!
