Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

Yeah I agree. Replacing him to be thrawn would be cool for the sake of just doing it, but in the grander scheme of things with respect to the movie it serves no greater purpose to the story. Can u imagine if that existed in the theatrical from the getgo? Everyone would be complaining what a waste of a character/missed opportunity that was.

No, or at least not unless something changes on MR’s end. His computer is kaput and he expressed a desire to retain a few things for his own fan edit. And while that moment is cool and insanely well done, it doesn’t bear in any of the other changes and is okay not to get.

Good to know, Hal!

Can’t wait for the same two people to ask these same type of questions again tomorrow so that you can answer them yet again. Maybe fifth time’s the charm for them!

😐

Lol,‘touché. On a serious note, I hope the excitement of the fans eager for this edit aren’t influencing the editors to rush in any shape or form. Take all the time you need. It’s already a blessing that there are super talented people more than generous to give their time and talents for something we hold near and dear to our hearts

Hey, Hal. I’m really sorry if I come across as too pushy with my questions and it gets under your skin, but if V2 is coming out around this holiday season, should we also potentially expect the Rey Nobody version around the same time as well?

I apologize if I dont follow the threads as closely but where did u get that idea to expect a Rey Nobody version as well? It takes sooooo long just to get one version of an edit out let alone another one.

Hey everyone,

Well, I managed to find some time last night to at least get a first pass out!

I sent over the project files to Nev (including C4D files and models) so he can integrate any color correction or other tweaks he’d like to make.

WOW poppa! that is absolutely incredible. I hope one day when I have a stronger computer to learn how to make my own ship animations, you are an inspiration!

bravo!

Have you guys seen this project? He’s got some insane new VFX and a great vision.

Imagine if this played before the opening crawl, I would’ve gotten chills in the theater

I suppose so, though I would imagine others would be wth is this… anyways it’s all speculative hindsight.

That looks incredible, what was the original footage from?

The whole TIEs don’t have hyper drives thing is something that the OT put as a flaw in the first place. How would a rebel group have access to military tech equipment in their fighter craft that’s more advanced than the state of the art, well equipped empire. That just doesn’t make sense in the first place.

I don’t see the problem with having a few dozen highly equipped fighters going against numberless waves of cannon-fodder, just as Rebel soldiers tend to outmatch Stormtroopers one-to-one but are quickly overwhelmed by numbers. That seems very Empire to me. It would be stranger if TIEs had hyperdrives, honestly.

Perhaps its the real life in me, its like i imagine the viet cong having access to nuclear capable fighter jets or small para/military groups get their hands on something more advanced than the US or USSR back in the day. something like that would never happen. but i suppose thats why its fiction.

Also, I don’t think it’s too difficult for headcanon to simply justify that the sequel trilogy takes place 30 years post Rotj.one would think the FO would have already upgraded their fighters by then to have hyperdrive capability.

At first I preferred the tie advanced, over time now I prefer the shuttle lol. I think visually it fills up the frame better, but that’s just me

I don’t see the problem with Pryde saying Palpatine & co. “conjured legions of Star Destroyers”, I don’t think he means that they literally materialized the ships out of thin air. It’s just a riposte to that other officer calling them “conjurers”, he’s simply stating they have brought forth a large & previously unknown fleet, as if being “conjured”.

In any rate I don’t think Pryde would be privy to the inner machinations of the Sith Eternal and their ‘fleet conjuring rituals’, so I don’t see how this line could be read as him explaining the origin of the Sith Fleet.

On the other hand, Kylo was the only person who even went to Exegol (as far as we know), so all any of them would know is what Kylo told them. Why would Kylo, in his official report, say that Palps had “conjured” Star Destroyers if he hadn’t? I’ve always interpreted as Pryde being literal (not to mention, it’s the closest thing the original film offered to an explanation for the Sith Fleet’s existence).

Personally, I’m not super concerned about this either way. If Pryde/the script wants to say that the Sith Fleet was conjured…fine, whatever. It’s not the stupidest thing in the film by a long shot. But if Ascendant does want to downplay that whole aspect…like Chase said, it would probably be more in line with that goal to trim the line.

This feels like one of those things where people are going out of their way to assume the absolute worst possible interpretation of something that happened in the movie. Nothing about the movie implies that the ships were literally conjured, and arguing that it does feels like arguing in bad faith.

Plus, the intel from Hux that Poe shares outright states that they’ve been BUILDING the fleet for years.

Couldn’t agree more. Stuck in minutia of minutia. I suspect the hunger for V2 is at an all time high.

I’ve been combing through the behind the scenes footage, mainly because I’m hoping to incorporate some extra shots into the Kijimi sequence. As I was going through though, I also went ahead and pulled every other shot I could find that might potentially be added somewhere in the film with minimal touch-ups. I know some shots have been considered or even included in Ascendant already - and the shots that remain likely won’t work for any number of reasons - but I thought it might be worth looking through them again with fresh eyes. Maybe add an extra landscape shot or two on Pasaana? More footage at Leia’s funeral? An extra shot on Endor? I dunno; I’m just looking for more ways to slow the pacing.

I rendered it as uncompressed to preserve as much information as possible, so the file’s kind of large.

thanks for sharing sherlock. If/when i have more time, i would definitely like to see if I can purpose some of the footage of the red sith troopers and resistance fighting on the star destroyer to give more feeling, stakes and intensity of the battle. Will probably need help adding some blast effects to it.

It would’ve been cool to see Finn have some sort of arc of “leading a revolt among several first order troopers” but within the context of disney that’s just too complex for family theme typed movies and would only cater to a specific sub-group, us the enthusiastic fans.

In a sense, they just gave his “arc” some justification when they met jannah that they also revolted giving him the feeling that he’s not alone. I guess that’s better than nothing. hindsight is 20/20

I’ve been doing some of my own rotoscoping and masking for scenes for my own edits. I’ve shared some early WIPs in this thread. For starters I want to remove the ILM logo watermark from the galaxy fleet charging the star destroyers. Hal’s ascendant has most of the clip with the watermark removed, but there’s a longer clip of that and I was wondering on how to give that a go.

Which thread should I go to? I can’t seem to find a search feature for these forums… sorry
