Anyone else blase' about the New trilogy?

As we have explored before opinions can be wrong (only Americans seem to think this is impossible). One may hold the opinion that the sun goes around the moon, it would be a wrong opinion.

Well I guess you just haven't explored it properly then.

Even the very example you provided goes horribly against your argument. The sun goes around the moon. It all depends on where you put the reference frame.

I still kind of wish GL was involved in some minor capacity (perhaps extremely minor). Kind of like how Arnold Palmer makes golf courses. He might tell them to put a tree here and a bunker there, but otherwise he just shows up for the opening ceremony, smiles, cuts the ribbon, takes a piss in the bushes, and leaves. The architects, engineers, and other skilled people do 99% of everything, which is how it should be.

Well since we don't know any details regarding screenplay... they might have used his story treatment (or at least partially), which would make it quite a major involvement.

I'm excited. However, and this may sound silly, I feel kind of weird about the fact that Lucas isn't involved. While I believe any creative talent he may have had disappeared a long time ago, someone else taking over everything seems kind of...inauthentic. Kind of like if your Mom remarried while your asshole dad is doing life in prison. The new guy might be nice, but he's not your Dad

I felt the same way you did until a saw an interview with Terry Gilliam (Director movies like Twelve Monkeys) and a conversation he had with George Lucas:

Gilliam told a story about a conversation he had with George Lucas who insisted that the computer-generated Yoda was so much better than the puppet version: “I couldn’t get through to him, he couldn’t see how wrong he was!”

As much as I love what George Lucas gave us for the OT, THAT isn't the man who gave us the PT, and would have been involved in the ST.  It really scares me how much the man is obsessed with CGI, and to think that one of his greatest creations:  Yoda Puppet, is secondary to CGI puppet?

Sorry, but Lucas is Darth Vader now.  The good man that he was is more machine then man!

Gilliam ended up looking dumb in this situation. He is basically saying that someone's opinion is wrong which is stupid. I mean if Lucas thinks CGI is better, that's his opinion. That is like someone preferring oranges to apples while this guy would try to convince him how wrong he is.

I would have less of a problem with them CGing Alec and using Ewan's voice than using Ewan entirely.

I don't think he would agree on doing that. First it is kinda humiliating for him as an actor. And more importantly it would be kinda stupid to just use a dead actor's appearance (without his consent, which cannot be obtained anyway of course).

Understanding the Prequels (and the entire SW story)
Time

It is supposed to be that no one actually knows Sidious and Palpatine are the same person

Naboo blockade served as a tool for Palpatine to remove current chancellor and get elected as a new one.

Palpatine created Separatists to scare the senate to get emergency powers.

Then in the end, he just labelled Jedi power-hungry traitors and took over.

Y'know, if they are following the germ of the (cursed) GL story treatments, I could picture the Luke-as-villain thing happening. George reportedly loved Dark Empire when it came out. For the record, I'd much prefer Luke to remain 'good,' though a gritty moral streak at the end (as rumored) would be okay.

When the Disney sale was news, I described a scene in my head of the final pieces being put in place. George is about to sign on the dotted line, and he hands Bob Iger the treatments. Iger is smiling and using his executive charm to politely send George out the door. As soon as he's gone, Iger tosses the treatments in the trash without looking at them.

Well we will see if he gets the story credit.

Should Jacen, Jaina, and Mara be in the newer films?

I kinda feel that those post-ROTJ EU sources that took over the main characters from OT should only blame themselves. For example, the post-ROTJ EU I like (JK2, JKA games) didn't not base itself around main OT characters. So even though the post-ROTJ EU was wiped, it will be much easier for me to integrate new films with the EU I like.

What Special Edition changes (if any) did people like?
Time

I would be better off stating what changes I didn't like. I hate every single PT-related parasite (ghost scene, NOOOO, Fett's voice change, "wessa free", etc.). As for others, I dislike Greedo change, Luke's scream in ESB (1997), Jedi rock (but the original scene was just as dumb), Sarlacc beak and I think that is it. The rest of the stuff I see as an improvement.

But for example AT-AT motion and interaction with environment looks quite fake to me because the dynamics of the model is completely different from the dynamics of the thing that it tries to model.

You're right. Stop-motion AT-ATs are so unrealistic compared to all those real-life 20-story mechanical walking tanks.

What a childish reply. I was simply stating the physics... If you make a model of something that does not exist in real life and your model does not perform/match in terms of physics, then you can't use an excuse as lame as "the thing I modelled does not exist in real life" to justify its bad performance.

Are we really criticizing physics in a discussion of Star Wars? Ships banking in space is certifiably bunk, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

In addition, I think AT-ATs are a little more realistic in their movement than, say, a tauntaun, simply due to them being mechanical in nature. They are mechanical, and look so as well.

And now we get back to the original argument. While practical models may visually look more real, but CGI has a huge advantage over miniature models when it comes to motion. You can simply apply a complex dynamics simulator behind the CGI model.
