I don’t want to add to your list of things to do, and I would be willing to do it myself if someone could point me in the right direction of how to do it, but could we possible change the Death Star hologram in Episode 2 with a hologram blue-print of Grievous? Not sure how interested people would be in this, so if their isn’t any we can move on to something more important.

Awesome idea, i’ll try out!

And please, if anyone has any request to make, please, just do it, eventually i’ll be testing your request too 😄

That is actually a pretty great explosion. Instead of the Death Star just disappearing, seeing actual chunks of it float away would be interesting to see. That seems like it would be pretty time consuming to create though.

Yeah, really time consuming, that’s why i think i wont be able to finish this year…
But it will pay off in the end!

I think the DVD has Shak Ti getting it from Grevious, while the Blu Ray has the Anakin version. There wasn’t much ported over from the DVD’s.

You’re right, i just checked!

I like the Death Star explosion, but when it gets gradually brighter in the beginning, I think it should have a more red/yellow hue to it, to suggest it’s heating up. Looks kinda cheesy as it is. Also once it’s completely white, I would cut straight to the explosion, rather than lingering as its gets the outer glow. Just my personal opinion, but I think it would work a lot better.

RogueLeader said:

The Death Star test is actually a pretty interesting proof of concept. Having two rings instead of just one makes the explosion a lot more grand. I agree with Darth Lucas as well. I think the way the Death Star II explodes is kind of like that; it glows a little bit then blows up completely.

Speaking of your 3D model problems, do you think making an actual model could work too? I have access to a green screen so I could film it possibly. I’d have to learn how to make a decent model though. Not sure which would be more work. You also run into the problem of not only making a Death Star model (whether it be real or CG) but also having to make it break into pieces in a way that is similar to the Death Star II, if you want imply they are the same station.

I understand this may be rather difficult to accomplish so I am behind any other ideas we can invest in that might actually benefit the story more.

Yeah i agree with Darth Lucas too, and since you guys shown some interest, i’ll make a better looking version of the 2d explosion 😃

Regarding the 3d explosion, making a real model wouldn’t be very helpfull, at least in my opinion.
You see, i want to do an epic explosion, something that simply wouldn’t be possible with an actual model!
This scene from the movie Oblivion illustrates the kind of explosion i want to do:
(CONTAIN SPOILERS) The explosion starts at 1:34
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHKtN9jPK1w

I want to do an explosion that looks like that, but that still fits into the Star Wars universe!
If you have a different idea on this, please, let me know 😃

Quick update 3

Tarkin holographic message shot done! Main post updated with information on how to obtain the shot!

Didn’t had time to cut more of Dooku’s saber today.

Huge Death Star explosion update:
First i tried to do some animations and tests on AfterFX, but none of them looked good enough. Then it became very clear to me, this can’t be done on AfterFX, its just too hard and unpractical.
So what to do?
Well… here comes the tricky part… i have acces to blender, so i tried to download some Death Star models. All the models where in 3ds format, so all i had to do was import them!
Sounds pretty simple, right? WRONG, for some reason when i tried to import the models, ALL the textures either disappeared or became all screwed up.
So whats the sollution?
I’ll have to create my Death Star model, its not THAT hard, there are a lot of tutorials, the problem is that this takes a LOT of time, without even adding the time that will take to make the explosion animation!
So i’ll continue to work on this, but just keep in mind that this will take a LONG time, i hope thats not a problem.
Last but not the least, i didn’t wanted all my time on AfterFX to go to waste, so i took what i already had, corrected a fell things and made pretty rough idea of a different explosion:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Rjejtvq7XM
If there is enough interest, i’ll make a better looking version of this, if not then no! So please, let me know what you think!

I dont know if i should post this here, but… xxtelecine7xx contacted me on a project his working on and i’m pretty interested, just letting him know i’m starting to do my own tests regarding his project 😄

Didn’t had any time to work on Frink’s idea today.

Cleaning up the deleted scene of Anakin killing Shaak Ti would be helpful for me as well. Don’t worry if it’s too hard.

If you could send me a good quality clip, i’ll give it a shot 😃

SuperSecretMuffin said:

Ok, thank you. One more thing, could you use xxtelecine 7xx’s version as a basis? I already asked his permission to use it in my edit, so don’t worry about that. If you don’t want to download the whole thing, I could send you the clips.

Since you’re using his version, the clips would work better 😃

Ok I don’t think you completely understood my suggestion, the entire scene wouldn’t be made into a hologram, just a few shots of general grievous and shaak-ti/random jedi’s death

I know, but in order to General Grievous appear has an hologram, i have to reconstruct the background of the corridor behind him, so this way he can be transparent.

There is actually something I’ve been wondering for awhile. Is it at all possible to have the Luke/Ben log scene from ROTJ take place in Ben’s hut?

I saw this suggestion somewhere in the forum, and honestly i don’t know if it is possible (because Ben is transparent, and the background is Dagobah), but i’ll do some tests!

But Shaak Ti is shown dying in both of these scenes…

Oh… I forgot lol, although in the hologram you could change it pretty easily since the quality would be distorted and it’s all blue.

Here’s the thing about holograms, they are all transparent!
So in order to make them transparent, i have to create a static version from the background for each camera angle, and i also have to make this fit with the already existing camera movement, also, holograms don’t emit shadows. So basically i have to clean the whole shot in order to make a proper hologram!

This is hard and tedious, but i’ll do it 😃

Edit wise, i think instead of making Obi and Ani go down to the “sewers”, i think they should just hurry up, use force speed, or anything like that, because the effects in the following shots are just too rough to be used!

I was wondering if you could do something about this, and make the space black like it is in the rest of the film. Whether that involves somehow keying out the blue tinge, or replacing the starfields altogether, is up to your discretion.

Ok, just keep in mind that i got a lot going on right now, so it will take some time 😃

Quick Update 2

I’m still waiting a response from TeamNegative1

Found a way to fix the purple-pink effect on blue sabers when in contact with Dooku’s new yellow saber.

Still doing some work on Tarkin’s holographic message, fixing things here and there. The youtube video has been removed and the updated version will be posted.

Some test for Frink are being made.

Death Star new explosion has started testing too.

There’re some good suggestions here. The one thing I really want is for every saber in the PT to be blue. But, yeah, that’s some intense shit. I’m pretty sure I’ll have to figure out and do that one myself (just beginning to learn AE).

Try changing the color of a lightsaber picture first, as training and test 😃
You’re probably following some Youtube tutorials on how to create lightsabers, right?
That’s useful, but if all you need is to change colors, that wont be very helpful.
Try following my process:
1- Load up the lightsaber picture or video you want to change color
2- Create a solid of your desired color over the picture or video
3- Create a mask of the solid over the lightsaber
4- Set the blending mode to Screen or Lighten
5- Mess around with Mask Expansion and Mask Feather values till you get a good result

If you need any help just contact me 😃

Hundsdorfex does great work, having contributed a few important shots to my edits. Not to carelessly add to the pile, but I know some people would have liked to see a variety of saber colors in the prequels, or thought it was weird for Sam F*%#%^ Jackson to be the only combo breaker.
One idea that was tossed around when starting my edits would alleviate this with a minimum of work involved. It would take two minor characters and give them their saber colors from the EU. During the battle on Geonosis, Plo Koon’s saber would be yellow and Ki Adi Mundi’s would be purple. We see both of these ignited prominently, and they don’t appear very much. And if you like, one or two other random background Jedi we see for one shot could have a yellow saber. The lady Jedi who had a red saber in the EU never has it ignited onscreen. (Ki Adi Mundi’s would need redoing in Ep3 as well. And one might want to give a yellow blade to one of the Jedi who accompany Windu to arrest Palpy.) For a minimal amount of work you’d have someone else with a purple saber, a few yellow ones, and keeping the majority as being blue or green.

Yeah… i’ll do this, but not now, as RogueLeader said this REALLY time consuming.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCaVKSk6gUM&feature=youtu.be

Its pretty much done actually, however, i still have to fix something here and there (reflexes and shadows).
So what you all think? suggestions on how to improve? please share them!

When its done, i’ll explain you can obtain the original uncompressed version of the shot, so you can use it on your edit!

I think letting owen and beru finish their scene first would work better, then maybe cut to an establishing shot of the homestead. Ideally the way I see the scene play out in my head, would be a shot of the homestead from a distance and a speeder comes into frame. Biggs jumps off and you’d here the two of them greeting one another. Specifically the lines you used from the scene inside tosche station. Then then wipe or fade, to show an elapse of time, to the part of the deleted scene where biggs says “I’ve missed you kid.”

Also does anyone know if there was ever a score written for the biggs/ luke deleted scene, that could be added back in?

I’ll keep trying other cuts. As for the soundtrack, leave that to me 😃

Edit:
For now, i’m going to wait a response from TeamNegative1. A better version of the shot would help a lot with rotoscoping!

Quick Update 1

Here’s a rough cut of the Luke and Biggs idea:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5v0-_qnL1k&feature=youtu.be

I’m still waiting for a response from TeamNegative1. So what do you guys think?
The problem with this shot, is that Ben and Beru never stop talking, which makes it hard to include Luke and Biggs talking on the background. If you have a better solution than the one presented on the video, please share.

I’m still cutting Dooku’s saber. Funny fact here: i might have to start all over again, but i’m still not sure. You see, instead of making a new saber from scratch and then putting it over the original saber, i added a Yellow filter to the saber. Didn’t ocurred me at the time, that the filter will also affect ALL other lightsabers that get close to Dooku’s saber. So every time the blue saber gets close, the saber will start looking pink-purple colored. It actually looks (in my oppinion) pretty cool. Here’s a clip so you can see what i’m talking about:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIhNC3_Pun8&feature=youtu.be

Note: I already did more frames, this is just a small piece of it.
If you want me to fix it, i’ll do it, but it will take more time.

I’m also working on Tarkin receiving an holographic message, i belive everyone knows what i’m talking about!
Here’s a small test:

Any suggestions?

-Finish the deleted scene where Anakin kills a Jedi, rather than a bunch of kids

That would be hard but doable, perhaps in the future!

Since no one has sent the clips yet, i’m downloading the films (dont worry, its not pirating, i have original copy’s) to start my work!

For now i’m focusing on littlev87 request and LuckyGungan2001 request.

I already sent a message to xxtelecine 7xx with a tip, but i’m also going to search for some high quality sounds.

I already checked some links that Bingowings shared, pretty cool stuff.

Smithers your suggestions are really cool but has you said they are extremly tedious to do, so i’m going to leave that to the future, i’m not saying no, i’m saying not now.

So for now i’m going to give more attention to more specific requests instead of full lists, but dont let that stop you from sharing your request, in time i’m going to try out your suggestion too!

this is something I have wanted to attempt for a long time, but I don’t have the software or the computing power. You may be able to get a cleaned up version of the biggs/luke scene from team negative1. Also you could use some shots of the lars homestead from ATOC. This would definitely add grounding to lukes character, and his friendship with biggs.

That’s an awesome idea, i could totally try, send the clips my way!

LuckyGungan2001 said:

Can you please make Dooku’s saber yellow in AOTC and ROTS?

Ok, i just need the clips.

The reason i need the clips is because i dont have the movies on my computer, besides, using limited clips makes my work a lot easier 😃
To share, please use something like 1fichier or Mega. Something free and easy.

My suggestion for you would be to look through the various idea threads and find ideas you think are interesting and doable try them and compile a compendium of options that people can just pull out of your archives and edit with.

Hmmm… ok, i think one thing that could be cool is to make the death star explosion on ANH different, this way, in ROTJ, instead of building a second death star, they could be rebuilding it. I saw this idea somewhere in the forum. You think thats a good start?

I’m still taking requests tho…

Also, the holographic message for Tarkin seems pretty simple to do, if you can send me a clip (with audio), i think i could do it.

After being in the community for some time, i decided to give my contribution. If you need special effects work for your edit (or any kind of film work you can’t do it by yourself) request me. I cannot guarantee you that i will be able do it, but i’ll give it my best shot!
I already did some work for Hal 9000 and fishmanlee, but now i’m offering you all my services.

Here’s a list of programs i have acces to:

  • Adobe After Effects CS6
  • Adobe Audition CS6
  • Blender
  • Vegas Pro 13
  • ZBrush (didn’t had time to learn how to use it, but if you need, i’ll arrange time)

I still intend to buy some more, but for now i can do a lot with what i have, including but not limited to:

  • Audio and music editing and cleanup
  • Video editing
  • Rotoscoping
  • Various effects, including blasters and lightsabers
  • Integration of 3d objects into scene
  • 3d animation
In resume, request me anything you have in mind and i’ll try it.

To request, please follow these rules:

  • Explain your request on this topic
  • Do not request an edit of any other franchise
  • If you request, please check this topic often. The updates will be all posted here!

Here’s what i have already done so far:

To acquire the original uncompressed version (usually large files), PM me and i’ll send you a download link.
If you have an idea on how to improve something i have already done, please share it, this way we can continually improve the quality of the shot!

Usually i do my work by the weekend, but any free time i have on the week will go to the requests.

So, go ahead, request your most insane edit idea.
Hopefuly, we can create amazing edits together.
Awaiting your request!

May the force be with you.
