The Rise of Skywalker: Untold (WIP)
Time

As I am now introduced to this thread, I must say there are a lot of interesting ideas. I hope you can accomplish what you are looking for.

I think I like the notion of Hux surviving and avoiding any betrayal. His betrayal and quick assassination went by so quickly and felt very cheap watching it. There is no perfect solution here for that, but the best of the bad solutions is to probably just show him with a few repurposed shots. Perhaps there is a possibility of AI added dialogue for him? I wonder if the actor has dialogue from another TV show or movie that can be repurposed for brief use?

The notion of Leia force healing Ben, which leads to her death, is the correct and logical choice. Another editor, Acbagel, has a work print of an edit to this movie. I liked what he did there. He had an illusion of Han Solo distract Kylo that led to him dropping the lightsaber. After that, Rey leaves without participating the healing process. Only Leia is involved. I think your added dialogue with that would be an excellent fit.

The Acbagel edit also uses an ending with Rey dying and Kylo on Tatooine burying the lightsabers. The material there could at least be partially useful for what you are trying to accomplish.

On another matter, there is another major edit to the sequels with information found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/fanedits/s/9JmdYVdwcE.

The planned release is for December. That edit plans to make Rey a lost twin of Ben Solo and has Snoke on Exegol (with an apparent Sith identity to be revealed). I have no idea how this will turn out, but the sample clips posted by the editor 21C Peasant on his YouTube channel look well done. There may not be anything relevant there for you, but this is one to keep your eye on just in case there is something you would like to incorporate if it turns out excellent.

Should Dave Filoni Run The Creative Team at LucasFilm
Time

I will always “enjoy” how Rebels completely delegitimized the OT. In the OT, we are told the Jedi are long gone because Vader wiped them out. In Rebels, we have Jedi force users, and force using trees, whales, and wolves popping up on every street corner of the Star Wars galaxy.

Can Disney/Lucasfilm please hand over total control to the people behind Andor [and Rogue One]? I know I am dreaming, but confidence in Filoni after Ahsoka is completely unwarranted.

(The Last Jedi) Fate of the Jedi | A Star Wars Legends Re-edit [Workprint Released]
Time

I have gotten around to watching this. Oh my was this an almost entirely different feel for the movie. When I first watched the movie in theaters, I walked out after watching Leia’s space flight. That was the final straw for me as I could not stand the characters of both Luke and Leia being completely disrespected and distorted.

  • I loved Luke coming to save the day multiple times with newfound ancient knowledge. That was truly a master stroke. In particular, removing Holdo’s “redemption” was an absolute necessity. Her snarky and nasty attitude was poorly conceived and completely illogical.

  • I really loved the musical score you incorporated. It gave the movie a more emotional feel to it. For obvious reasons, Star Wars coupled with emotional music really allows you to connect to the characters - good and evil - much more.

  • Great decision having Kylo actually fire on Leia. There is no logical reason for him to kill his father and be unable to do so for his mother. It was far too early for him to turn to the light, even if very brief.

  • Good decisions all the way removing any form of unnecessary [toilet] humor. These are out of place in Star Wars movies.

  • I loved force ghost Luke and seeing him in the world between worlds. A nice way to pay respects to a legendary character.

  • Your ending was much better with the Palpatine voice. A movie like this must end with an ominous omen.

==> I am really confused about the plot point of completely ending the Jedi order. At the end of the movie, Luke tells Kylo that he will not be the last Jedi while referencing Leia (or possibly Rey). How does that fit with Luke specifically telling Rey twice in your edit that he wants the Jedi to come to an end, but then comes to contradict himself at the end? I understand he recognized their failures, but I think it would be better if Luke never explicitly states that he wants the Jedi to end. We should have a reformation of the Jedi code versus the outright elimination. The complete abandonment is overly defeatist and in contradiction to Legends Luke.

Yoda effectively tells this to Luke in the movie, but in different words about changing the ways of the Jedi. I also think it is unnecessary for Luke to explicitly tell Yoda he is burning everything all down. We can jump straight to Yoda doing it. I would also suggest removing Yoda’s laughing as we are dealing with a very serious situation at this point. I also believe Yoda should not reference ending the Jedi order, but imply a reformation instead.

Another tiny nitpick I have is that Yoda calls Luke “young” Skywalker. In this movie, he is not exactly young. I think it demeans him as others are labeling him a legend.

Thank you for all the hard work you put into this and your other edits. It is quite clear you put in an unbelievable amount of work. I can feel the passion put into your edits. Job well done.

(The Force Awakens) Heirs of the Force | A Star Wars Legends Re-edit [Workprint Released]
Time

Acbagel,

I hope the children are well as well as the rest of your family.

After a lengthy period of time, I finally was able to watch the work print. This was quite impressive in really altering the first of the sequel trilogy for the better.

  1. I do have one strong opinion with regard to making this more in line with legends material and the Luke Skywalker of the OT. The Luke we originally were introduced to was very active in taking the initiative. He was not passively waiting around to make things happen.

In the dream sequence in the end, I would strongly recommend adding a line or two from Luke advising Rey to come to him. The audience could interpret this as his actual communication or just a force illusion, but we really should have Luke taking charge. This enhances his character in a very simple and subtle way. This demonstrates that he was not simply waiting around hoping for the best. It also shows he was not a whiny quitter as portrayed in the next movie.

I think this could function as a parallel to Obi Wan telling Luke to go to Yoda in ESB with Luke advising Rey to go to him.

  1. I scoured through many of the comments here, and I share many of the complimentary sentiments along with your goals for this edit that I believe really worked well. There are many to list, but I will briefly go over a few.
  • Thank you for giving back some dignity to Han Solo’s character. I mean, did we really need to have him as a criminal smuggler again? This was a lazy plot point. Not to mention his relationship with Leia completely falling apart was rather extreme.

  • The rearranged opening worked a lot better versus the theatrical order of things.

  • While still over the top for me, it was good to have Rey’s force use diminished and more gradual. I understand you cannot remove all of it without the story becoming overly incoherent. The one that still is highly problematic was Rey force grabbing Luke’s lightsaber while overpowering Kylo Ren for it in the process. There is no way she should be able to have superior force use in that scenario. Is there a way to cleanly remove Kylo trying to take the lightsaber and only show Rey reaching out for it?

  • I also liked removal of the eradication of another planet. As you stated, this was just another plot point that made this movie resemble ANH. This gave the movie a more unique feel to it.

  • In this edit, Finn is a likable character and not a pathetic joke. This might be the most impressive feat.

  1. I caught 3 audio transition issues:
  • Around the 22:40 mark we hear the offer for junk while still in the prior scene.
  • At around the 25:25 mark going into a conversation between Kylo and Hux, they start talking while we see Finn in the prior scene.
  • Unfortunately, there was a third audio transition towards the end of the movie that I neglected to note down and cannot remember where it was. I think it happened around the First Order abandoning the base, but not certain. If I have a chance, I will look for it again.

==> Overall, I like that you incorporate good ideas from various different editors. If you ever do get back to this, I am confident you can incorporate what other editors have incorporated since your last revision in the last few years to make this movie the best quality possible.

Thank you for your hard work.

Hey all. WW here, looking for info and links to all current LOTR edits. I posted on reddit and someone helpful directed me here. I can already see some other projects I’m interested in like the terminator and Bladerunner (reckon I could even get my dad to watch that!)

Please direct me to the appropriate threads. I looked in the other properties and found some LOTR but I’ve done so much digging already on the internet that engaging in even more digging on here seems a bit pointless when I bet someone has literally posted something akin to this same search recently.

Kind Regards - WW

A thread for reporting any spam seen on the site

I’ve been noticing massive amounts of spam across the boards lately , too many to copy and show here . noticing most of it in the late night or early morning hours and a lot of it being for illegal and illicit activities . The mods seem to be on top of it ,but I’ve never seen so much of it . banned member using sock accounts ? If so , they are pretty stupid. I’m guessing it’s just a matter of time before they get tracked somehow and hopefully receive harsh consequences for illegal activities .

There should be a way to auto-detect these spam bots and auto-delete them. These are becoming way over the top. I understand this may be easy for me to say though.

I am concerned that an unsuspecting user may accidentally click on one of the spam links and thus install malware onto their device.

Star Wars Rebels Recut - A Fanedit TV Series
Time

I think you had a slight error in your last post. S01E05 should be S01E01.

You really are doing “yeoman’s work” on this edit. Your paying attention to minor details, such ad Vader’s voice, really is excellent to see.

As an aside, it certainly does look like the Ahsoka show is another Rebels season. This might belong under this category of edit.

  • The recolor here is excellent and works much better than the original- great job here.

  • I also like the removal of the facial expressions to minimize the cartoonish nature of the duel.

  • I like the removal of the dialogue with fake Kanan because it was just childish and added nothing. However, I feel it is a bit of an issue if we see Kanan just suddenly appear in front of Ezra. From Ezra’s perspective, it should come across as suspicious that Kanan, who was behind him, now suddenly appears in front of him.

I think you should include a second or two of fake Kanan approaching from behind without the dialogue and running in front of Ezra. That way, from Ezra’s perspective (and first time viewer) it would not be obvious that we are dealing with a force illusion.

Thank you for all the hard work you put into this and ongoing development.

Anjohan's The Rings of Power - The Film Cut [FINISHED VERSION]
Time

This brief review is by no means an insult to the editor (Andreas or Anjohan). The actual show itself was unwatchable. I could not watch it all the way through. I thought it was an extreme b*sdtardization of the Lord of the Rings franchise. Truly horrible.

With this edit, I was able to comfortably watch it all the way through. I still thought the content was awful, but that is not the fault of the editor - he did not write nor direct the show. There is only so much one can do to clean up this mess. In fact, I commend Andreas for being able to make this show at least watchable one time through in this movie edit. I would not have even thought that was possible. If someone really needs to watch this, please bypass the actual show and go with this edit rather than the full Amazon version.

The Spence edit does a decent job of getting through the underwater Otah Gungah sequence very quickly. It felt a bit rushed, but I also feel there is no “clean” way to get through it without serious cuts. I would also remove all the slobbering that Spence did not cut.

The sea monster Chase was also removed, but that could be reintegrated without the Jar Jar dialogue. Besides, the monster chase gives us decent early action in the midst of an excess of dialogue.

HARRY POTTER: Revisited [Updates and Info]

Thank you for making these edits Andreas. I hope you find fulfillment and happiness making these while having a good and lengthy life. (I read about your prior health issues).

I will look to watch these as soon as possible with hopefully other people to enjoy as well. I loved the first 2 revisited Harry Potter movies. I had a slight disagreement removing the opening dream sequence, but I understand you want these to be friendly for all ages.

MCU: A Recommended Reordering
Time

I am bit confused at what you intend with this. Will you have the recommended movies in a spreadsheet outlined in a format similar to the Clone Wars? I do like your similar goal like with your other edit to ensure the characters maintain their relevance. They do not simply disappear for extended periods of time.

Watching the non-MCU Spider-Man movies before No Way Home is a no-brainer. The characters really need to be fleshed out before watching that multiverse movie for maximum understanding and entertainment value.

As of now, the X-Men movies do not really have a place in the MCU. I would leave it out entirely.

In a way, I was hoping for other fanedits to be incorporated into something like this. As with other edits, sometimes including deleted scenes, strategic cutting, color corrections, rearranging scenes, and other modifications can enhance the experience. Unfortunately, I am unable to recommend anything because I still have not gotten into MCU edits quite yet. It is probably outside the scope of what you are looking for anyway.

When I first encountered this post and skimmed through, I thought, “Wow, this guy must be certifiably insane to edit of all of these movies and TV shows. This would take 200 years.” I then actually read through the post a bit more slowly and returned to reality. 😃

Best of luck if you pursue this. I think this post would receive much more engagement over at either fanedit.org or the fanedit subreddit if you are looking for feedback. This site is Star Wars heavy for better or worse even if it is open for all forms of fan editing, and quite literally any random topic people want to discuss.

Asokha Radical Redux Ideas thread

I am not sure of the feasibility, but would it be possible to deepfake or use some other editing trick to have Lars Mikkelson’s live action Thrawn to appear very physically fit as he was in Rebels?

Thrawn with a “dad body” is really out of character for him. Disney should have used a tall and muscular man with Lars’s voice similar to OT Vader was portrayed.

Heir to the Empire - animated fan film series adaptation (up on youtube)
Time

I want to thank 00Jason for introducing me to this thread.

Like everyone else, I have been extremely impressed with the animated series developed by DarthAngelus. I really wish we could have some variation of this as the sequel trilogy in live action, but I will gladly take what we got here.

I have never read the novels by Zahn, but I can clearly see why people loved the Thrawn character. We only received a partial version of this Thrawn in Rebels, and I have no idea what is going on with Thrawn in Ahsoka.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Another Happy Sanding. (Released)
Time

Octorox,

I am not entirely sure what to say here because the link to your cut list is not working for me. I do not want to vex you with recommendations that you have already incorporated. So here are some possibilities that may or may not work with what you are looking for.

  • If you want a much darker ending, you could incorporate some of the Vader lines similar to this clip where he indicates Padme “means nothing.” The musical score needs to be restored and some words can be trimmed out.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Li9FA3I5zqw

  • I have always felt that as much of Grievous coughing as possible should be removed. It makes him too much of a sideshow. I would also suggest removing Windu labeling Grievous a coward who hides when talking to Palpatine. This helps make Grievous a more serious villain.

I am not sure if you would also include the deleted scene as upscaled by Bobson Dugnutt where Grievous assassinates Shaak Ti as well.

  • Remove Windu labeling Anakin as “young” during the Jedi council scene. Likewise, remove Windu’s later line calling him a boy on the gunship while talking with Yoda. If my understanding is correct, you incorporated elements from the New Canon Cut where Anakin is referred to as a general. A general should not be referred to as ‘young’ nor a ‘boy.’

<strong>Ahsoka</strong> (live action series) - general discussion thread

Vladius, you raised several excellent points about Luke Skywalker - where in the Star Wars galaxy is he?

How could your primary protagonist, and hero of the the Original Trilogy, basically become an afterthought in these shows that take place shortly after ROTJ?

I mean, Luke was supposed to be the last Jedi and rebuild the Order, except for the fact that we now have Jedi magically popping up on every block. There was an obvious storyline here that people would go for as you stated.

Can we please make Luke a bit more useful in the post OT shows and movies? Is there a reason why Anakin will not talk about his own son that brought him back to the light on this show?

Animated Adaptation of Star Wars: Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn

https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIXGhtpYcgXdpREUecruJR1Yy3h8w4d-s

I am not aware if a thread was made for this, but a YouTuber named DarthAngelus made an animated series based on the work of Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy. It is ongoing project and continues to be developed.

I thought this was very well done considering it was made from scratch. I wanted to bring this to the attention of this community who may find this as the “original” sequel to the OT.

I am curious to hear some thoughts (particularly from editors) about the quality of this work.

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE]
Time

Patali,

If you are looking for a very solid Rebels edit that removes the silliness you referenced, then I would strongly recommend asking g00b if he knows one that solves most of those issues. I suspect he may know of an edit out there that removes the childishness, filler episodes, and gives you the high quality “meat” of the show so you and the wife can enjoy it in the quickest way possible.

g00b definitely knows an editor who really put his heart into the edit of the show, and went through multiple versions where he always kept providing constant updates to make the show as close to perfection as it possibly can. 😉

As for the Clone Wars, I do not have anything further to add because g00b’s post effectively why the EddieDean Clone Wars is by far the best bet. I will say this though, Eddie clearly spent a significantly larger amount of time editing his Clone Wars series than most other editors will do on a movie or TV show. He put his heart and soul into it. That, I believe, was a major factor as to why his edit is a masterpiece.
