How do I word it that makes sense…
Okay, so the cockpit itself is static throughout the shot, as it should be. The tunnel walls move to the left, to give the illusion that the Falcon is veering to the right to avoid impact. As that motion is happening, notice that the motion of the ship’s (Y-Wing?) flight remains perfectly static in the same way the cockpit does, making it almost look like a 2D image sitting still while the background moves to the side.
Am I really the only one who sees it this way? I even think the same issue is happening with the X-Wing, though it’s less noticeable because it is also spinning slightly, which masks its lack of motion to adjust to the backgrounds movement.
I’m over here wondering if I’m crazy, cause this has bothered me for literally decades (even moreso since fanedits became a thing.)
I see it too. I don’t think you’re crazy. As the cockpit swerves right, the angle of the ships ahead should change ever so slightly… but… should they? The camera angle is from inside the cockpit, but it doesn’t move with the cockpit, so its point of view on the ships ahead doesn’t change. It’s probably correct, but it does look a bit uncanny, and like a 2d element moving across a 2d plane.
