What about a Qui Gon voiceover to Vader as he watches Palpatine fry Luke. It may be enough to imply that Qui Gon passed his secrets along to Vader.

Problem with that is that it just seems really heavy-handed and somewhat anvilicious. I always liked the subtlety of Vader just looking at Luke, and then back at the Emperor, and going for him, with no clues to his mindset but what Prowse puts into the performance. From a storytelling standpoint, it doesn't need anything else, and would be compromising the character (in the theatrical, it's Vader/Anakin making the decision for himself, not anyone else prompting or influencing him) for the sake of continuity. If it comes down to one or the other, I would much rather compromise continuity for the sake of character.

Or perhaps remove Anakin completely from the scene, as according to ROTS Anakin shouldn't have learnt how to become 'one' with the force anyway, unless Qui Gon appeared to Darth Vader before he died and taught him how. (now that really would be an interesting scene!)

The problem with that is that it would deny the sense of closure which was the whole point of the shot in the first place!

How about we add everyone from the prequels including Jar Jar? Why not?

Well, I might be interested in doing some editing here; I plan to create a "me version" eventually anyway. Something that'll fit in with SOTDS and Adywan's ANH (with maybe one audio edit here).

That would be fantastic! Do you think we could count on you for a half an hour of edited video for ROTS?

CC- I'd love to see your rough edit.

I would love to help out, but I don't know if I will be able to; an opportunity for me to move to Nashville and play bass semi-professionally has just opened up (in the last week) and if I do take it, that will probably take up most of my time. If I don't go through with that, I would be glad to do some editing under the direction of the Ranch. I might need some help with the soundtrack, though, I've never mixed 5.1 before.

Well, there has been a bit of discussion now abouot Grevious and Maul. Thoughts?

Personally, I'd like to see it if it is possible. But it would take not only what ever effects were possible, but it would have to have a good purpose in the film, fit with the dialogue (especially between Grevious/Maul and Obi-wan and between Grevious/Maul and Sidious) etc.

I've always wanted to see this change, it's one of the big reasons I want to edit the PT. Without it Grevious is just a throw away villain, and not a very good one at that. With it, it not only adds continuity to the never ending villain parade of the prequel trilogy, but makes his final confrontation with Obi-Wan actually matter. I've gone into detail many times in the past about how to accomplish this, but I'll have to do some backtracking to get my exact quotes. Redubbing Grevious in III is a must obviously, and looking back to I, if we really are going to change the Sidious hologram to Maul, then he will need redubbing in I as well.

What will make or break this change will be the revelation to Obi-Wan that Grevious is the Sith from I who killed Qui-Gon. This is where the dubbing becomes essential; we're going to need some good dialogue. I'll try to think something up soon, but in the meantime I think I'll put a rough edit together of how their end battle might go just to show what I have in mind. All of Grevious' dialogue will be muted, and I'll upload it to the Starkiller Ranch YouTube account. (Remember that? Haha)

I know I'm not an official "ranch hand" (and I apologize for chattering about my personal edit earlier), but I have to add my vote to this. Otherwise, Grievous is nothing more than just another robot (in a story sense). If there's a way to put in the deleted scene where he kills Shaak Ti while not losing the picture quality too much, then I think it would be a good idea (just up to the point where they drop through the floor, though -- after that, it's not much better than an animatic). If that was done, she'd have to be removed from the later scene. And I think it was planned to add some of the Padme-related/politicking scenes as well? Or are people against the politics in ROTS as many were against those in TPM? I dunno. I liked some of the politics, especially the Birth of the Rebellion aspects. I've been lurking in this thread for a long time, but I don't remember much, having read through it most recently a few months ago.

Yeah, ROTJ is something I'd love to rearrange.

I have toyed with the idea of using the Anchorhead Luke/Biggs scene as a kind of "last time, on Star Wars" before the opening title like the old serials had, but I know that'll probably be seen as blasphemy. Of course, the fact that Biggs is given importance but not explained only intensifies the experience of coming into a serial halfway through. Then again, this is probably not the right thread to discuss this.

On the other hand, I'm sort of in the middle of planning an edit of Transformers.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time
Absolutely what 1anakin said.

When it comes time to share Star Wars with my kids like my dad did with me, this is the cut I will use. I would rather watch this version on VHS with them than the 2004 SE on Blu-Ray. Thank you so much for making a version of A New Hope that I don't have to worry about if my non-fan friends are going to think the Battle of Yavin is boring. Seriously, this stuff makes the difference.

Transformers The Movie: Resparked (Released)
Time
Well, mine won't be out for a long while, I think. I don't yet have the resources to make it happen (no computer of my own right now). I have been doing a lot of preproduction and planning, though. I was definately planning to add in more Starscream (not! enough!), and maybe use Frank Welker's G1 voice (possibly processed in some fashion) for Megatron (I really like some of the lines from the 1986 movie: "Such heroic nonsense." ). I definately want to redub Ratchet, though whether I'll use a voice from the cartoon or make my own, I'm not sure. Just cutting lines wouldn't cut it there. I was thinking of making Bumblebee's lack of normal audible communication part of some Cybertronian vow of silence instead of robotic vocal chords that magically kick in two days after Ratchet fixes them (makes! no! sense!). Not to mention that if he has speakers that the radio can play through, he should be able to route his vocal processors through that radio.

I really like that the Autobots have such a sense of the dramatic, in the film. Like when Sam and Mikaela first meet Prime and he makes all the introductions, they all put on a show, Ratchet spins around and has his emergency lights going and everything (not to mention Prime taking something like a minute to transform!). I also liked the mountain dew robot (I know a lot of people didn't) because he/it shoots cans of soda at people as his weapon, and that, to me, is the perfect expression of how Transformers (the concept) is a (imho) near-perfect synthesis of awesome sci-fi and goofy fun.

What do you think about using alternate dialogue from the Transformers video game? Have you played the game? I wanted to, but I kept putting it off, and now every store I find is saying that the PC version (only game system I have, and that's mooching off of other people) is sold out/nonexistant anymore.

What programs do you use for editing?

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time
Ok, I just got it from torrents and haven't watched the whole thing yet, but I have watched the scenes everyone's talking about: the various battles, cantina, etc.

The first thing I want to say is an honest and complete "thank you" to adywan for taking so much time and putting in so much effort to improve the film and fix what GL should have fixed in the first place. Generally, it's brilliant. Absolutely no-holds-barred brilliant. I like the inclusion of the Imperial March, that's fantastic, and the "Here they come" shot in the Battle of Yavin. A complete "oh my God" (even though as a Christian I consider it blasphemy to say that, I said it) moment for me. I would like to see how the saber duel would be without the additional music, as I'd have to hear them both to decide which I prefer, and maybe I'll do that once the DVD is released (or maybe not). The pauses and lack of music in the original theatrical were some of the most tense moments in the film for me. But that's not what this post is about.

I have some concerns (and maybe these aren't appropriate for this thread but would fit better in threads for ESB and ROTJ once you open them, in the near or far future) which mainly center on the usage of recomposited elements from the Episodes V and VI to enhance the battle scenes, introduction of the Death Star, escape of the Falcon, etc, where I recognized some of the shots (not all, but some). So if I wanted to watch the adywan version of IV, V, and VI here ten years later with my kids, it might look kind of like stock footage reuse. How many of the additional and enhanced shots are CGI and how many are just recomps? Again, I do really love what you've done. It's just that watching them back to back later on might feel a little strange.

Jeez, do you think that's enough worrying about tomorrow for today? I do.
