Has anyone now second guessed the prequels
Time
well...back in the late 90's:
_97:SE, it was cool to see the movies on the big screen again, but some things were very bad moves from GL (Greedo, bad CGIs,Jabba scene,Jedi rock....)
_99:summer holidays in NY, saw the movies (the french release was in october!),i was disapointed, i thought :it looks like SW but it's missing something(s), maybe episode2 will be better...
_'02:saw episode 2:more stimulating movie than 1 but doesn't survive a second viewing, looks like a bad attempt to repair the disapointment from episode1
_'04:the infamous dvd set! ('nuff said!)
_'05:i've lost hope to see a good SW, movie confirms that.

in least than 10 years, GL turned my favorite movies into my worst nightmare!

What about you? The moment when you "divorced" from the Lucas policy about SW?

yeah, i remember the commercials for the '95 THX remastered release: "for the last time in its original version!!!"
I still can't believe they mean it...

Am I the only one who thinks the CGI effects look fake?
Time
no matter how good is a CGI it'll always looks fake and more important COLD! no feelings of a real light interaction, of the grain of the film, of the "real thing"!
i don't like the CGI Yoda, it's over animated, it draws to much intention to itself ("look!!! i'm a big CGI that took months and hundreds of peoples to animate where a puppet works 100 times better!"), it 's the imperfections of the puppet that makes the OT Yoda "real" like a character, and not special effect.

Do you know where i can find pics and stills from the OT in good quality?

By searching on Google I found a site with some great stills. You can find them below the 2004 DVD screengrabs. Unfortunately there are some special edition only stills between them, but there is enough unchanged material to get a few good stills.

The Star Wars Trilogy on Outnow.ch

thanks! but i still cant' find some pics; like the sunset in New Hope, and the emperor sitting in his throne in Jedi.
I'm making cd covers for the soundtracks, and these two pics would be great on the back covers!

Why Direct?

I was wondering if anyone had any documented reasons (i.e. interviews) that explains why George Lucas decided to direct all three prequels. This is something that's always interested me. In the Leonard Maltin interviews on the Faces release, he asks George what would get him back in the director's chair, and George said that if he directed any of them, it would be the first one, so he could set the stage for the other directors to follow him. Now, this isn't a pro-Lucas directing thread or an anti-Lucas directing thread. I'm just curious to know if there is any documented evidence as to why he changed his mind.

maybe he realized that other directors can make better movies...

it was a very bad move to "unmask" Boba Fett and make him a clone...it kills the mystery of the character, just like the recent origins of Wolverine.
In SW some characters need background and origins and some don't, because they exists only because of this mystery around them.

ps: don't forget, George : "less is more"

What did you think the Clone Wars were gonna be?
Time
Well...based on the OB1 speech in "new hope" and the preSE/PT stuff that i have, i pictured something that looks like more the designs and the feeling of "new hope".
A war in which the Republic/jedis fights rogue sith-influenced system who have a new dangerous technology: clones!
I always dreamed to see the battle between the jedis and the mandalorian warriors ( where Boba Fett gets his armor),space battles with Z95 fighters.
And where Anakin meets OB1 at the end of CloneWars, and is only 5 years younger than him.
(see the different chronology thread)

In the portuguese version, Dooku is renamed Dookan (although he is referenced as Dooku on Clone Wars sometimes), and Sifo-Dyas was renamed to Zaifo-Vias, because both names sounded similar to curse words. Also, Panaka was not renamed, but he souds like "panaca", which means something like "jerk", "stupid", "idiot".

it was common at the time to "frenchise" the names; exemples in "new hope" novelization:
Han = Yan
Luke = Luc
Chewbacca = Chiktabba
Millenium Falcon = Millenium Condor
Darth Vader = Dark Vador (this being so popular in France stayed: Darth Maul = Dark Maul, same for Tyrannus, and Sidious)

but by the time of Empire Chewie gets his true name, the falcon is called "the falcon", but the names didn't changed for 3PO and R2 (except now 3PO is called "3PO" in the PT and "6PO" in the OT)
