Ford: My Star Wars trilogy is a classic
Liam: Yeah well, my trilogy had kick ass fighting moves and graphics.
Ford: My trilogy had a plot and likable characters.
Liam: I had a lightsaber.
Ford: I had a blaster (that shot first every time.)

Ford: We had bigger box office numbers!
Liam: I had a staring role!
Ford: For one movie. I starred in all three!

How Star Wars names are translated in non-english countries...

(for the french speaking people on this forum: do you agree that the french version of ANH (more than the others) is a lot of fun? Han saying to Luke as the Falcon is about to make the jump to lightspeed: "Prends ta pelle et ton seau, p'tit gars, et va jouer." ("Take your shovel and bucket, kid, and go play" (in the sandbox)))

i totally agree! the french version of SW (except the "frenchized" names) is great! it's one of those french version of the 70's with great actors who have a colorfull voice (like the dubbing for Jaws, Superman, etc...(it's a shame they made a new french track for the dvds of these movies!))
i personnaly like the remark of Luke when Yoda "explores" the camp : "... tu fout la merde partout!"

yeah! Francis Lax rules as Han's voice! i don't know why they didn't get him for the SE ...they were able to get Dominique Collignon-Maurin (Luke's original french voice) for the new Biggs scene but can't have Lax to do one line? WTF!

i have that one too, except for someone speaking at the end of a track there is no problems with sound on the 2001 cd, the only problem is that you can't tell what version it is if you can't look the disc itself! (there's is a little "01!" on the lecture side of the disc) besides of that, this one of my all time favorite soundtracks!

did lucas destroy star wars?
Time
I was watching Dune a few days ago, and i noticed this line "who destroys a thing, controls this thing".
and that's maybe what's george is doing, i mean we all know he's such a control freak, and that's what is the final stage of control... destruction.
Maybe he's so into the control of his work that he don't see or don't want to see all the bad he is doing.

what do you think?

Sorry but i find that the Alien quadrilogy set (who came with that stupid name? the right word is tetralogy) and T2 ultimate are far better than the official SW dvds, i remember the time when lucasfilm answered why it took so long to make those dvds, stuff like:"we need time to get all the material possible", "george is waiting to see all the possibilities the format can offer..." "it will be the most complete dvds, a real cinema lesson..." blablabla..... at the end we had butchered movies, color mistakes, bad sound, no deleted scenes, borring audio com (has i heard), a making of/lucas propaganda, etc...
The Alien set is really a lesson of cinema, you have all the developement of the movies, wonderful copies, both versions of the movie (theatrical and director's cut), deleted scenes, outtakes, alternative soundtracks, designs galleries, trailers, tv spots, and great audio com (Ridley Scott is great at this!) and you even have the old bonuses from the LD editions!

New Gary Kurtz interview!

Anyway, what i was starting with was that Kershner is definitly NOT to blame, and everything good about the film, everything that sets it apart from the rest, comes from him. The problems on the set all go back to Kurtz, if any one individual is to blame.

i don't agree with you Kurtz was doing his job has a "creative" producer,he gave time to Kershner to shoot and to the actors to improve their perfomances and really work on the script (something that Lucas don't understand) by the time lucas was already becoming a "buisnessman" thinking about making a movie "good enough" for the audience, Lucas wanted it to be "as good as" while Kurtz wanted it to be "better than".

9 Years Ago Today....
Time
i remember that time too, but when i saw the infamous Greedo scene i ithought it was a mistake on the copy, besides having a new voice for Han in the french version (it's a really bad job; on the french dubbing you have the original voice for the whole movie except for this scene where they chose a new actor and it was totally stupid because when we see the new scene with luke and Biggs they used the same actor who dubbed Hamill in 77 and the actor who dubbed Ford at that time was still available even if his voice has changed a bit)
the Jabba scene was one of the worst CGI i've ever seen! and showing Fett here is totally useless (i also hate when Lucas says that he was in this scene...BS! Fett was created in 78!)
well, i won't make again a "things i hate about the SE " post but it's "funny" how in less than 10 years SW turned from my "favorite movies" to my "biggest disappointment"

Midichlorians are a joke. A great big cosmic joke that Lucas invented to rape the mystisism of the force. Whenever you explain something scientifically it looses all it's wonder.

The only reason that he even mentioned the word "midichlorians" was because he took a writer's hack-job short cut. He needed some semi-plausable reason for Anakin being so "with the force" that he just made it up. Which is a damn shame because I can come up with a much better explination than that right now.

How's this for Anakin's strength with the force? - His mother was a slave. She happen to meet and fall in love with a man who was passing through the system. They slept together and Anakin was conceived. Shortly after her lover left and was unfortunatly killed. She never even knew who he was or ever saw him again, but discovered that she was pregnant. She raised her son alone.
Later, when Obi-Wan reaches the planet, he discovers Anakin and his amazing force ability. He is so impressed with his control of the force and great piloting skills, even through no formal training, and takes him to see master Yoda. (See, now it makes sense from the OT.)

There problem solved. And no mention of Midichlorians.

But in my universe there are no midichlorians anyway. I just ignore it whenever I hear it.

And I always believed that ANYONE could become a Jedi if they wanted to. It was all a mater of how strongly the force flowed from them that determined how good a knight they would become.

Kind of like, say playing the piano. Anyone can do it, even me, it is just a mater of training. But some people (like my brother for instance) have a natural gift with music and you could say that the "force is strong with this one," while someone like me...well, sucks at music.

i'm 100% with you ,that midichlorian thing kills 20 years of (OT) mythology, the first time i heard that i was like : "What the f...! what about the OB1 and Yoda speeches in the OT?"
i've always thought force was something more spiritual than physical, something between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.

Thinking of Fantasy Movies that came out during the OT

I'd throw Blade Runner and Conan the Barbarian into the mix but those really were for the adults only crowd.

that was a golden age for "sci fi/fantasy" movies; everyone was trying to make a SW-like movie or at least a SW-like success.

i remember movies like Dune (funny how the mechandising for this one was aimed at kids...) Outland (ok that one is more influenced by Alien), Krull, Tron, etc...

Note - Pathetic how Jar Jar takes center stage while poor Mark Hamill is almost pushed outside of the picture. Screw you George! And where is James Earl Jones, may I ask?

funny how the original cast is far away from george... reflects very well the "real" meaning of the PT!

ps: and what about Boba Fett, Ben Kenobi/Alec Guinness?
