Here was my original synopsis for the edit-

This is my re-edit of the pod race sequence for what I hoped would be a larger project that laziness has prevented me from getting into at this point. My idea was for the prequels to have been made in a world where George Lucas had made all six films in order and thus Phantom Menace would have been originally released in the mid-1960s. I wanted to give it that sort of a feel by utilizing some of John Williams earlier works into the music track (which has necessitated an all new sound FX track that I have barely started. I have the music and video portions complete, however).

Great! Those sounds would definitely be useful then! It might be an Idea to add a bit of 'noise' to certain bits of dialogue, to make the sound seem not as 'clean' or 'perfect' as it is in TPM.

For instance, in close ups the sound would be clean. But in further away shots, the sound would have noise and other things.

Something to consider.

Have you thought of fading the music into each other a little more quickly? It's very distracting hearing several different pieces of music during a scene.

Also, if you are making the film seem to have been made in the 60s, have you thought of adding other sounds from things like the original star trek or something like that? This sound would be great for when the engines start working again, but that's all up to you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fgz_poC0V8Y&feature=related

You can find a lot of the original 60s trek sounds here: http://www.trekcore.com/audio/

The story itself is self-contained and episodic. Qui-Gon Ginn arrives on Tatoonine alone as a Jedi recruiter after hearing rumors of a young pod racer with extraordinary abilities. (I get the sense that Qui-Gon finds the whole racing concept distasteful by one of his facial expressions).

Liking it so far...

There is no dialogue and the whole race involves only Anakin and Sebulba and clocks in at under three minutes.

Excellent, the original podrace is way too long as is.

Not sure if anyone will like this but I thought I would put it out there in case anyone may want to pick up the ball and run with the concept. It is my thought that since the prequels are so full of flaws it would be feasible to cut them into pieces and salvage the good parts. The missing story points would simply add to the mystery that the PT is missing. Not everything needed to be shown or explained. It was so much better when I was living during the OT era and my imagination had to fill in the blanks. George was not able to make those details more appealing than my imagination did all those years ago.

Sounds groovy, look forward to seeing the finished product

:)

Poor you Daleks In Manhattan and Evolution Of The Daleks are pretty awful.

The only bit I really liked was the gossiping Daleks scene, which was hilarious.
Watched Evolution early this morning. I liked them both. I don't think I've seen an episode I haven't liked yet.

O RLY?

Have you seen Love and Monsters?

or Hamlet? (That last one was rubbish, Everyone kept calling the Doctor 'Hamlet', and Patrick Stewart didn't say "Make it so" once! LAME)

Here's a small update since last summer. Lots of layers of sound still to be added.

That was pretty cool. Were you going for a whole grindhouse look for the footage?

Also, I found this

http://www.fanderson.org.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=303

It's got a ton of sound effects that have been accumulated from old 50s-80s shows and movies, might they be of any interest to you?

A couple of them are on youtube if you want to hear them.

The Scary Door
Time

Picture yourself in a boat on a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly, a girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green, towering over your head. Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes, and she's gone.... into THE SCARY DOOR....

- Star Wars does need to be updated to maintain its impact on new generations.

Then why does Wizard of Oz continue to be beloved by every generation since 1939?  I have friends whose kids love that movie, no updates, just good ol 1939 sets/effects in the backround.  Star Wars would be just as beloved today if the OOT version were on Bluray or DVD.  Lucas has put this in everyones mind by updating the movies that they NEEDED to be updated but I never heard anyone complain abuot updating them in 1991, 1992, 1993....

I'm generally pretty happy with George's involvement in his projects.

- I blame Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen.

- George may have decision power over a project, but he also has a deadline. If the people working for him can't do what he asks of them fast enough... is it really his fault?

- Star Wars does need to be updated to maintain its impact on new generations.

My biggest disappointment with George is how much (with the exception of releasing the OOT) he caters to fans.

I personally am wating for versions of the OT where all computer monitors look modern, where Yoda is CG, where mattes are replaced with CGI, where space battles match the intensity of the prequel trilogy. I want to see a completely CG version of inside the JAWA Crawler. I want to see the Cantina replaced, and Greedo painted over with cgi.

So... I like that George wants to match Star Wars to his vision. I simply hope he can overstep the things in his way and do it. He has enough money and enough resources (and the technology is there.) to make the OT look as stunning as ROTS.

But the story is just, bleeugh.

Don't get me started, because I couldn't disagree with you more, and could easily fill up 10 paragraphs explaining why, but I won't.

Considering your opinion of 2001, we'll just chalk it up to different strokes.

But...I've never had a stroke...

I'm sorry Frink.
