Boston Marathon Explosion(s)
Time

This is a horribly sad event. My heart goes out to everyone involved - victims, families, everybody.

I ran Boston a few years ago (the same day of the Virginia Tech massacre). I'm not trying to make this about me, but it's weird thinking about how in that race my mom and brother were standing along Boylston St., close to where the explosion further away from the finish occurred. Just people watching a race...

I really don't have words for this. Sickened and upset. To quote Boyz n' the Hood, "We're living in a violent world."

Star Wars: Reclamation - rumored upcoming animated series
Time

This looks fake. I don't know the industry standard for format and tone of a show treatment, but I can't imagine that this is real, as it has some amateurish bits leaking through (OUR story instead of THE story, the fact that it's dated which instantly makes the story "old" in the eyes of producers, saying that the "entire galaxy is fair game").

On to the substance of the treatment, it makes little sense to alienate a large portion of the Star Wars fanbase by rewriting EU history. I could understand it if the changes to the galaxy are massive, like the Empire immediately returning after Endor and crushing the rebellion, but as it is, it doesn't seem all that much different than the EU. The presumed conflict of the galaxy against whatever exists in the bowels of Coruscant seems too much like the live action Star Wars series which keeps not happening, as far as the focus on Coruscant is concerned.

In short, pointless and fake. Good try though.

It seemed like Kennedy, Lucas, Abrams, Arndt, and whoever else have more or less made it clear that the new trilogy will pretty much be new material that disregards the EU. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember hearing and reading this repeatedly in articles/interviews.

Regarding the name, I would guess "Reclamation" is just a working title in the case this is authentic. I don't think this is entirely fake based on having feelings for a long time that in wrapping up TCW, Lucas was already thinking about "rebooting" the series. As in, launching a new sandbox to create more movies and shows, for which the obvious choice was always Eps 7-9. The prequel/Clone Wars era has pretty much been milked dry. The Old Republic stuff has also been done or is currently being done.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

I've grown to feel the PT should have actually focused more on Obi-Wan and less on Anakin. Also less shrinking of the infinitely vast SW universe to tying every character's threads together. For example, I like that the stormtroopers are clones. I think having kid Boba Fett as a clone is a travesty. The best thing about Boba Fett in Empire is that, for all you know, he's just a damn good, menacing bounty hunter. Seeing him as clone kid diminishes that dark mystique.

Anakin could have been introduced in the second film as a rising, talented, but arrogant teenage Jedi or something. The war between separatists and the Republic could have still served as a backdrop. Less 100 lightsabers at once eye candy and more focus on Anakin and Obi-Wan carrying out missions. But of course this wasn't in the films because otherwise there wouldn't as much material for EU stuff like TCW.

One of the better points that RLM makes in their AOTC review is that we just don't see Anakin's training. We try to establish that Obi-Wan and Anakin's relationship is rocky and complicated due to Anakin's emotions, but it just would have worked better if we saw Obi-Wan and Anakin getting along better before Anakin's turn. ROTS tried to correct this, but even then Anakin's conflicted feelings just feel unnatural. One minute he and Obi-Wan are saying bye like old friends, the next minute Anakin's whining that Obi-Wan doesn't trust him.

Gah. You got me writing about the PT.
