Its actually more like TPM starts bad and then spirals downward through AOTC and becomes worse than "Manos:the Hands of Fate" with ROTS.

We are at the point in SW history that the OOT will be doomed forever onto laserdisc quality for decades to come. THis could mean that Lucas has won the war against the originals and has done what no person has ever been able to do since the dawn of time: erase history. The hopes of having star wars on DVD is a dead dream, same as the destruction of Alderan, and the hope of SW being released in a non-SE version in HD/BD is DOA. We need to start leaving the message boards and protest in public of this outrageous and despicable act. We need to contact every filmmaker right now and pull them to the plight of the destruction of part of film history. If there can be the preservation of hsitoric buildings, we can save the OOT if we notify every corner of the media, notify Criterion to the struggle, and raise the money to buy the original prints from Lucasfilm itself, even if it is the 1993 master. For me, there is no replacement for the OOT, and I would rather kill myself than see a world where the SE is the only available version of SW. Am I just an idealist, or should we patiently wait for a day that could never come. We need the leader of this website to raise the money to buy the OOT from Lucas himself, because he does not want those versions at all. This is our only chance.

Yeah, but we got a s**t sandwidch each time an "improbability" from Lucasfilm happened. When the OT was released three years ago, we got Hayden closing out ROTJ. When the OOT was released last year, it was probably the only non-anamorphic DVD release of the 21st century.

But you know, there is that phrase "never say never" because there's always that slim possibility he may change his mind, especially if there's money to be made. And possibly down the road, he may realize that the SE was a mistake.

What have you been smoking man? Lucas will never admit that the SE was a mistake- they are his vision! But you are right in saying that one should "never say never."

Well, can you explain why they decided to do laserdisc quality on a DVD in 2006? It's an absolute mystery; and that's why we are so dissapointed with the news that the 30th anniversary boxset is crushing because we built it up as an end-all-be-all release to reconcile the GOUT. Too bad the GOUT is going to be the last release of the OOT forever, so just wait until they invent the 64:27 television, then the GOUT will make you pine for seeing it on the 52" screen. Lucas put us into this insane situation and we just have to accept the GOUT as the best as were going to get, unless the mythical x0 project comes out.

And you are right, Bigdaddyvader. I do not accept that PT as canon and I have decided that. My problem is that I am not willing let the dream die, but it's Lucas who overrides all our dreams, honest to god.

In this day and age? No one write a letter anymore unless it is an email. And, who knows if Lucasfilm will just ignore these letters and send them back? No, Lucas and Lucasfilm have trenched their feet in stone and refused to let the OOT be released ever agin to normal standards. It is his very goal to erase film history and make a propagandist version of the SW saga. Lucas considers the PT to be so superior to the OT that he gives just one film from the PT more or equal treatment to the entire OT, and the OT is now changed endlessly to conform to the BS found in the PT. If Lucas had done the PT right he would not continue the change the OT every few years and there would be an additional three films we would love. But he didn't. The only thing we can do now is how to cope with a dead dream and film history that has been erased forever. Bravo, Lucas.

(PS If we sound like a broken record, that's your perogative. We need to keep these comments alive to prove and solidify our points.)

Too bad that Lucas has won! Can any of you bring back a person from the dead? The OOT died less than six months before its 30th anniversary. And when our hopes seemed to finally come true...BAM! It just dies just as Lucas has been planning since he decided that the PT, which came over 20 years after SW came out, to be the main true arc of the saga instaed of the OT that has been part of the popular culture, then we saw the signs that with the release of the SE, the mythos of the greatest and most well known film trilogy of all time was sent to die on decaying VHS tapes, as a matter of fact the release from 1995 have probably become physically unwatchable even under mint conditions, and shockingly, in one of the most unexpected and substandard DVD releases since the medium was introduced in 1997. Who knows what will happen with the GOUT is played 10 years from now if it rots like poor-quality DVr's? No other creator has the power to create such a beloved trilogy and then painfully destroy it in front of our eyes to those who actually knew the OOT. What has now been replaced is a revision of history that Stalin himself would be proud of, an unwatchable mess filled with dozens of plot holes, and late 90s CGI shoehorned into a film from the 70s! It makes me feel suicidal.

The Saga boxset will come out someday on DVD or BlueRay, but I have kinda given up on the whole 'will the OOT be remastered' fantasy, cause I think our dream died with the GOUT, and even that was the last way Lucas can stilll get our money and thumb his nose at us at the same time. As I have said in a couple of my other posts, I have put my hands up and accepted that this is SW for the future, and I have just walked away, and hopefully the XO project happens, and can satisfy enough fans that we can enjoy these damn movies once again.

I mostly agree, but I doubt we can ever enjoy these movies ever again.

Do you mean we just need to accpet the PT and SE, or are you saying that the GOUT is bearable? Cause I cannot believe the apathy toward Lucas that is developing right now, and I can't just stop caring about what Lucas is doing to destroy the OOT (which is IMO equivalent to erasing the works of Homer from existence). We need to fan the flames against Lucas or get the damn x0 project off the ground so we can preserve the OOT.
