State of the Trilogy/ annual SW depression
Time
Consider these questions:
Did Lucas even read Joseph Campbell, or even heard of him before the PT?
Is the SW saga supposed to be a modern mythology, or just some homage to cheesy 30's serials?
Did you know that the first star wars was based on the Akira Kurosawa film The Hidden Fortress?
Did Lucas think of anything from the PT before 1990?
Why Darth Vader's name means 'father" in Dutch, even though Vader wasn't established as Luke's father until 1978?

See, people the only hope is Lucas's death. This is absolutely no guarantee that the OOT will miraculously resurrect out of laserdisc hell, by the time Lucas dies the SE will become way too entrenched in Lucasfilm; therefore, when Lucas dies in 20-30 years or even more, the man who takes over Lucasfilm will be a die-hard yes man who will continue Lucas' scarring legacy. Just the fact that he on some film preservation board should be a red flag to anyone that there is no hope.

Nothing is ever going to be planned for the OOT in 2009, or 2010, or even by 2015! I can't believe how delusional some people are towards the false hope of getting the OOT on Blu-ray. Lucas will not even release a SE version of the OT until the format is on its way out. Plus, anything positive associated with the OOT is NEVER, EVER going to be released. I don't care if I have said this a hundred or a thousand times over; it is Lucas absolute goal to destroy the OOT from the public's minds and replace it with a SE/PT arc that has the PT as the centerpiece of the the saga, not the OT in any manner whatsoever. The OT, even in its latest revisionist form, is regarded as an afterthought to the PT. Since the shocking abuse the OOT two years ago, fans of the original trilogy are now living in delusion. Once I'll state for the thousandth time: the GOUT is the BEST we are ever going to get from Lucasfilm, and that is the absolute LAST time we will see the OOT for time immemorial.

What order would you show the Star Wars movies to your kids?
Time
Ideally, I would just show them the OT, and maybe throw in the clone wars cartoon series because it's quite better than the PT. But I would probably show the saga starting with SW, then the rest of the OT, and then show them the PT, just to get a historical perspective. I really wouldn't show the saga in numbered order because Lucas hadn't though of the PT until way after ROTJ

Why is the GOUT not anamorphic?
Time
Well, if they advertised the changes to the SE in 97, why wasn't it mentioned that you'd never see the OOT again unless it was in a very bad form? Many people saw the SE as a gimmick, not as replacement for the movies already established. This also confirms my point that Lucas made a lazy transfer of the OOT so that we would be convinced NOT to buy it, making it the Catch-22 of preserving the OOT.
BTW, how were you able to refit the GOUT into anamorphic with copy-protected media? Just asking.

If the GOUT was anamorphic, then it would sell out overnight; but the caveat for Lucasfilm is that if the OOT sold like hotcakes, then the "official" vesrion of the saga would suffer and go against their plans to eradicate the OOT from the collective consciousness of the general public. It is their gaol that 50 years from now, no one will remember the OOT and everyone will unconditionally accept the SE and PT.

"You want the US to clean itself up, but you don't seem to have a problem with China spewing crap into the air."
Actually, I do have a problem that China spewing crap into the air. I'm not trying to promote China over the US or anything! I just say It's got to be a unanimous effort to cut down pollution when it concerns global warming. I said China was ONE of the reasons we rejected the Kyoto treaty. Sorry if I'm acting like I worship China and demonizing the US at the same time.

I knew the Kyoto treaty was rejected because China wasn't treated as an industrialized country; I learned that in Biology last semester. But still, the US also rejected the Kyoto treaty because they felt it was bad for business- which effectively nullified the treaty because US is one of the top petroleum consumers in the world.

State of the Trilogy/ annual SW depression
Time
For me I feel that nothing is happening, besides the Clone Wars turkey out in four months, that makes me feel optimistic about the future of the OOT. We all know that the boxset we were certain would come out to celebrate the 30th anniversary did not come out, but that's old news. I fear that nothing's ever going to happen with regards to the improvement of the status of the OOT and we are going to be stuck with laserdisc quality DVD's for a very, very long time. But that's again old news and I honestly have no real motivation to buy the GOUT if its going to be the worst-looking picture I will ever experience, now and forever. And that's also sorta old news, as we all know about laserdisc technology.
The real reason I decided to create this post is that I am beginning to feel quite depressed when it it concerns the star wars trilogy. It's like I need a "fix" of the OT every year, and since there isn't a watchable version out there, I feel a sense of emptiness. sorry to exaggerate, but I feel the whole medium of film, past, present, and future can never be enjoyed without the OT, and that the treatment of the OT in this day and age makes me want to abandon anything related to film and television in a heartbeat. I know I really should not blame George Lucas for all my problems, and I know that for many of the person who read this post, they will be very angry at me for expressing opinions that they feel are just beating around the bush. I feel nothing but very bitter emotions when it comes to be associated with SW.
I also honestly feel that many are in denial that things will really turn around in the next couple of years and everything will be magically solved thanks to the power of Lucasfilm marketing. "So certain you are." I don't know what to say anymore, but I think I everybody would be happy I there was a time machine and we could go back 15 years and warn Lucas about the mistake he will make with changing the OT and creating the PT. Because this debate would not exist if there was some care by the creators of this franchise and they would remember to respect the fans and actually give what is needed. But now all things related to star wars is considered now some of the worst crimes against humanity, and it is only the very few things that come out of SW that are good.
Finally, could one really believe that 20 years ago their favorite film( and one of the most important milestones in cinematic history) would be condemned to technology that was to 1973 standards? Do any of you realize that ten years from now, the tyranny that the SE created will outlive the glory once associated with this franchise?
There, I am finished. Go ahead, flay me alive right now, say how this pst is a waste of time and all the flame wars that are certain to follow. But this is how I feel right now about the OT, plain and simple.

"Spying on citizens. This is practically laughable."
Apparently you haven't thought about the NSA and the spying controversies a few years back. Besides that, you are absolutely right on all the points that you made. Im really not trying to say that the US is as bad or even worse than China, or that we lack the right to protest. The reason I mentioned "economy over environment" is that the US rejected the Kyoto treaty back in 2001 because it would cause an economic catastrophe. Anyways, you can reply and educate me on the mistakes I made in this post.

I'm not trying to imply that American get arrested every day and we have a government-controlled media that spits out communist propaganda. The similarities between China and the US is that we are similar in our concern of the economy over the environment, our relatively high prison populations, degrees of government spying on citizens, and that we are rival superpowers, to some degree or another.

Info Wanted: Whatever happened to the x0 project?
Time

Have any of you noticed that we haven’t heard anything from the x0 project in over a year and a half? It checked their website today and it still says they are updating soon… but their latest article is on how bad the GOUT is! Have the people behind the x0 project just decided to give up? I don’t believe so, but it seems to me that no one seems to talk of them anymore (or since I last posted messages). Is this just a pointless topic or is this something of real concern?
