TPM in my opinion is more of failed experiment, while the other two prequels just exist for no real reason.

Thatâs an assumption, not an answer. And with a man as slippery as George Lucas - who makes âexperimental filmsâ in private that have so far never been publicly seen - itâs a fair question.
I always found that to be a bullshit excuse from Lucas. To me he has zero interest in âexperimental filmsâ and more interest in milking the same franchise too many times to count. He is a man with very limited scope who claims to be avant-garde when he is nothing more than a lucky idiot. Heâs bitter because he couldnât remake his beloved Flash Gordon and had to use his brain to make something original. Then he became even more resentful when smarter people could make better films than him, so he fired everyone who made the franchise great, and made four bad films that are still today black marks for Star wars fans. The only silver lining he got out of this is the merchandising, which was his true calling all along.
In other words george lucas had too big of an ego and clout at the time and probable thought he was the best writer in the world. which is too bad because jedi and the prequels would have been great. If he didnât have a bunch of yes men who didnât have the balls to question all of the problems with the scripts. Though the only thing i do really like about jedi is han didnât die like Harrison ford wanted,the emperor and maybe some other things but thatâs it.
But still he shouldnât have taken out his frustrations on his fans like this. The franchise has been ruined ten times longer than it was good.
I know right i wish someone had the balls to stand up to him and tell him this wasnât going to work. Me i think if jedi and 1,2,3 were ether miniseries or seasons with each season being these four episodes it would have had room to breath.
There wasnât enough story in the prequels to cover even one movie. Jedi really isnât that bad either, but if they just didnât fire Kurtz years earlier, we wouldâve had a perfect trilogy.
What do you mean not much of a story you have the emperor obi wan,Anakin,the Jedi order the clone war,the rise of the empire it just was plotted out,written and executed etc. horribly thatâs all. If it was done the way Lucas was trying come across or something similar and by that i mean the fall of Anakin way it was intended to come across. It would have made Vaderâs death more meaningful what we got was effects over story. đŚ But my point is still valid the back story done right would have added more to the original trilogy instead of what we got. In the end your right if the producer of a new hope and empire didnât leave we would have had two epic trilogies.
Ok maybe the PT could have been good. But the shape of the franchise works against creating a prequel trilogy; when Star Wars came out in 1977 Lucas had no clue he even would make a film trilogy, or even that the film would be the fourth episode. Star Wars feels like the starting point of the franchise, instead of a middle chapter like Lucas insists. I donât believe he ever had an outline for a three film story, or even had the intelligence to create richly detailed universe with its own mythology.

George Lucas and his family are still bitter at Disney for making a better version of Ep. VII, and the fans for liking it better than the prequels. So I would contempt is a strong component of his personality in his behavior towards other people.
No itâs Lucasâs contempt of us that is the problem. This has been the biggest problem ever since ROTJ was in production. Name me just ONE franchise where the creators treats their fanbase THIS poorly for THIS long.
The main problem with the SE is just the act of contempt Lucas made against his fans. In fact he has treated us badly for over 30 years now ever since he developed an inferiority complex against the makers of ESB.

The Special Editions simply donât work without the prequels. Weâre never told who Hayden is in any version of the OT, so if someone who hasnât seen the prequels watches the 2004 or 2011 version of ROTJ, they would be utterly confused when Hayden shows up.
One would assume that Hayden was the ghost of Anakin because heâs right next to the ghosts of Obi-Wan & Yoda.
Why would anyone assume that? We just met Anakin and he didnât look anything like Hayden.
