My girlfriend has never seen Star Wars!
Time
Well folks, we watched Episode IV tonight. This is kinda embarrassing but she was all over me tonight and (here comes the embarrasing part) as much fun as that was I said to her "honey, if this were any other movie I'd make love to you till the cows came home.....but it's Star Wars and you've never seen it! Let's watch!" I felt kinda geeky turning down a woman but damnit! This may be the only chance to really expierence Star Wars with someone who hadn't already seen the films.

So during the film she pretty much watched attentively until she was feeling...uhh...you know....so I had to attempt to spurn her advances (which I failed a couple of times where I thought she didn't really need to pay attention) however I think she got the jist of the film. I had to explain a few things, like I told her to watch when Ben is telling Luke about the Force and I even had to tell her who Darth Vader was and why he was taking the princess and what the "Death Star Plans" were. She even asked me who that alien was "oh that's Greedo, he's a bounty hunter". I'm not too sure if she understood Jabba's role in the film but what are you gonna do I guess. She seemed to enjoy the film as it got later into the film. Once the falcon was in the Death Star docking bay she tended not to make anymore advances and pretty much watched.

Final Verdict: She said she liked the film. I told her not to lie to me, just to be honest but she was adamant that she enjoyed it, so I guess that's as good as I'm gonna get. I should have asked her what she liked about it, but I'll be seeing her tomorrow so I'll see what she says.

I kinda made a joke with her, I said something like "our relationship will work if we can get through all six Star Wars movies and we're still together" to which she responded "There's Six Star Wars movies!?!?!?"

Thanks for reading everyone.....I'll keep you posted on what she thinks of the next film, The Empire Strikes Back!

I mean come on, couldn't we have something better than a silly scream and stupid walk that doesn't really make sense?

The Infamous "No" Scene would have worked had Lucas not decided to (for some reason) make that scene a homage to Frankensteins Monster. Like I said in another discussion, Vader walks with the flexibility of C-3P0 in that scene. Poorly executed, however would we complain as much if Vader had dropped to his knees, perhaps pounded the floor? Probably not as much although I'm sure someone would even have a problem with that too.

Probably the best line of the trilogy.

I disagree....but I have no problem with the performance....I realize they were just struggling to get him to say SOMETHING that worked as "I love you too" didn't work. I just don't think it works at that particular moment and should have been done differently (with perhaps Leia doing something instead of saying something like reaching out for Han). Then again I'm probably in the minority of this opinion.

Will do!

Again, I don't know why I initially made this post, cause I figured I would get a bunch of people telling me which order to watch the films....oh wait...sorry....I forgot this is OriginalTrilogy.com that shouldn't be a problem (that's actually the reason WHY I posted it here rather than on IMDb)

However I am excited to hear her reactions on the films. This is the first person I've known atleast long enough to find out that they've never watched Star Wars....it's gonna be fun! It's also the reason I'll start with the Original Trilogy first, it's meant to be seen that way....I could never abide anybody watching the Prequels first unless they were like me and had just seen Star Wars umpteen million times.

There....I said it. We've been seeing each other for about a couple of weeks now and she dropped that bombshell on me last night as we were going to my buddies house to watch Episode III and to have some fine alco beverages. I was wearing one of my Star Wars shirts and she says something like "you must really like this Star Wars stuff, is it any good?" and I respond "Any good? Have you never seen Star Wars?" "Um...no".

So Episode III starts and I'm like "wait! Don't take ANY of this in! Forget everything that happens! What's that? An Obi-Wan is a Japanese Car! I said forget it! AHHHHHH" I decided to cut her off at "Another Happy Landing" since I needed to finish my beer.

So next time we have time to kill we'll sit down and watch Episode IV. I'm actually excited to see what she thinks, and to see if she becomes a fan of the films. Sorry folks though we'll be watching the Special Editions but don't worry I will tell her about the OOT.

"Yeah there was like an original version of these movies like when they were first made....few minor changes than these newer cuts, pay of no mind" I just thought I'd share......although I know alot of you probably didn't like that last line. If she becomes that big of a fan perhaps one day I'll show her the OOT.....let's hope the relationship lasts that long

Remember when...
Time
Sadly, the prequels ruined this tradition by introuducing new ships and tech that were either totally fugly or derivative. Nowhere in the prequels is there anything as cool as the Tanative IV, the Death Star, the Millenium Falcon, the AT-ATs, the AT-STs, the speeder bikes, etc. The best we get are castrated yellow TIE Fighters.

I have to well disagree and agree. I personally can't say that I was all that visually impressed with alot of the technology used in Episodes I & II as the story tended really not to rely on the use of new spaceships every movie (although again I personally never took too much notice).

However the trend you say was ruined, I think actually was reborn with Revenge Of The Sith. I don't know if it's because it was the next chapter before the Original Trilogy but it was nice to actually see the Clones using X-Wing like fighters, and while I can't say I got all that into the Jedi Starfighters in Episode II, I thought they were excellently done in Episode III. I knew that if I was a kid I would have wanted to get my hands on the new Jedi Starfighter atleast. I also liked the "Invisible Hand" ships as well, they looked pretty sweet, so did the newly revamped Star Destroyers (pre Empire of course).

I also have to say that I did like the Transports used on the Battle Of Geonosis, I thought those were neat but I was more interest in that point seeing those things dropping off the clone troopers for ground battle.

Remember when...
Time
These are more "personal" I remember when moments...

I (wish I could fully) remember the first time I watched The Empire Strikes Back and being blown away even if I didn't understand it.

I remember my cousin owning an original Millenium Falcon and playing with it, the disappointment in my eyes when I had to go home, but the joy weeks later when he let me borrow it for a while.

I also remember having (and still do) the Hoth Han Solo and him being the only figure available at the time to fly my cousin's Millenium Falcon.

I remember after forgetting about Star Wars, getting the "faces" box set and falling in love with Star Wars again....and this time it stuck!

I really remember getting into the Shadows Of The Empire multi-media craze. I am probably one of the few people who actually has the Shadows Of The Empire soundtrack. I also years later bought a cheap N64 to play the video game!

I remember actually meeting one of my best friends later in life, by the desire to actually play his N64 just for the purpose of playing Shadows Of The Empire. I also remember being hooked on that game, playing it several times over to collect all the Challenge Points and to beat it on several difficulties. Definately one of the few games I had to beat everything on (I would get the similar desire with the new Lego Star Wars games).

I remember seeing a figure of Dash Rendar and kicking myself for not being able to afford it (espcially now since you can't really find it anywhere!)

I remember when in exchange for some other movies, I borrowed the 1997 Special Editions and being excited. I watched them once and thoroughly enjoyed them.

I remember the fever pitch for The Phantom Menace. Surprisingly I don't recall the negative reactions to Jar Jar until years later. I know though that my brother used to quote Jar Jar like crazy....and still to this day actually likes Jar Jar (which I don't).

I remember being excited for my brother who was equally excited for finding a Episode I figure of Darth Maul.

I remember (to cut this short) that I found each Prequel to follow out-did the last.

I remember buying the 2004 Special Editions (along with at the time the Prequels films on DVD), enjoying them alot

Wow....sorry....that was long.

2004 DVD crap-o-la
Time
Sorry, I prefer the 2004 Editions and probably will like the 30th Anniversary Editions as well. I think that's a little arrogant on your part when you make statements such as "no self respecting fan could love the 2004 editions". While the only movie I was alive to actually see was Return Of The Jedi at the time, I grew up on the OOT, loved every minute of it. Then the 1997 Special Editions came out, which I only watched once. For some reason I never really bought those because I had some friends that let me borrow it anyways. Then when Star Wars finally hit DVD I picked them up and thoroughly enjoyed them. Mind you, I also have a few things that I would change about these 2004 Editions but I think everyone would in the long run, find something that they would change.

In the end though it comes down to respect. I've found most people here do respect the fact that really it's not about what Trilogy you prefer but it's about the fact that you enjoy that same story regardless. It's just statements like "you must have been blind to like the NEW Star Wars" or "you're not a real fan" which piss me off. Hey, guess what? I was around to enjoy Star Wars for quite awhile before the Special Editions came out and I still prefer them. Sorry about the rant everybody....but I've been frequenting a board with some real prick "holier than thou" attitudal OOT fans.

How the prequels should’ve played out:
Time
Not to really defend the Prequels because they are far from flawless (then again neither are the Originals, no film is, they are just "preferred") but half the problem with the Prequels was that gap of time where it was how people "wanted the prequels to play out" instead of "how they actually did" and ultimately you could say that no matter what they were destined for failure atleast in one major groups eyes....just turns out that major group is actually the majority. You have to admit, atleast half of the reason the Prequels failed was due to the enormous expectations riding on each films shoulders. The other half of course....possibly either reasons lend to unsatisfaction because of expectations and/or poor direction/dialogue/effects/what have you choices through-out the films.

He'll probably give the Prequel Trilogy a once over for the 2007 edition, with the addition of Digi-Yoda for Phantom and whatever else he wants to tinker with. Not even PT fans can escape the wrath of Darth Lucas.

And you're an SE fan too.

yep. I must admit, it would be hard to resist the lure of the Digi-Yoda for TPM....although I could see buying that version being more worth it had Yoda been in the film more than he was.

No, I think most of us feel the same way I do. He was a good character, but he detracted from Obi-Wan's established character by doing all the things and acting in all the ways that should have been Obi-Wan.

What do you mean specifically by this?

I thought the relationship between those two was definately one if not the only saving grace of TPM. I enjoyed how Obi-Wan was clearly on the edge of becoming a Knight, however we still saw his character learn and be somewhat defiant infront of his master and thus become more fleshed out in that sense. For him to be the Master right away could have worked but it was more interesting to see him earning his stripes and thus allow the audience to see how he attained the rank of Jedi Knight.

There's still good in him (Lucas), the money hasn't driven it from him fully. We can turn him back....to the good side

Green Lightsabers in A New Hope.....

need we say more?

Ever since I bought the 2004 editions, that has always bothered me, how they could take something that wasn't fucked up in the first place and then go and fuck it up and then release it to the masses. Georgie Boy, you made things worse! What other company would let a mistake like that go? If you weren't the head of the damn thing, I think the answer would be something like "no other company".

If you had a complaint then why not go about it constructively? I was kind of skeptical when I first posted here cause I like the Special Editions, but it seems that over the short time I've noticed that people can constructively discuss any differences you may have in opinion about the Trilogy even if you disagree with the purpose of the site.

I'll admit that "AT FIRST" mind you I felt almost similarily to the original thread poster. I couldn't understand the big deal about the quality (and to a degree still can't) because I could sit down, watch a VHS copy and be satisfied with what I saw. Then with talking with both the folks here and on other boards I atleast understood, why the hell NOT release the Un-Altered Trilogy in better quality? I noticed alot of the campaigning material used for the September releases were DUE to the Un-Altered Trilogy, but yet he wants to capitalize on this and not put the effort in to make it look atleast up to par with other standard DVD releases? I like Star Wars but still it doesn't make Lucas look any less of a hypocrite in my view.

About yourself
Time
25 year old British/Canadian citizen. Hobbies include just watching/chating and all around being a movie buff or atleast trying to. Playing guitar, Hanging with some friends. Currently not working however that should change within a couple of months. Dating right now, off again on again B.S. but besides that....not much to tell. Used to be musically inclined but I need both a job and an equipment overhaul. Oh and lastly, obviously love Star Wars, ALL versions as my old sig used to say. Hell I even like most of the Prequel Trilogy, blasphemy! ("that business in Phantom Menace, doesn't count" - to steal a line from Obi-Wan and make it my own)
