Okay, for my sources, the right speaker comes out of the left surround sound speaker and vice versa. (Likely a mistake made by me during the ripping process) Which explains the sound being heavier on the left.

This was incorrect… No issues with my source as far as I can tell… but that being said,

this audio business is being an absolute nightmare for me because when I check it on my TV with a 5.1 surround sound setup, everything is coming through the correct channels (telling me everything is indeed fine with the audio) but when I listen to the edit via VLC on my PC it’s left leaning… (That being said, it also sounds like my headset is left leaning also… so it’s been difficult for me to judge if I’m achieving anything).

I’ve read on Reddit that this could be a problem with VLC for 5.1 media… Kestrel how are you watching my edit? And does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for the advice and noticing this Kestrel! I should be able to fix it for all new releases by editing the channels in premiere pro.

While I’m fixing this I’ll go back to S01E01 and see if I can fix that Inquisitor to Ezra transition. My current thought is to replace the fade (which I don’t think we ever see again in the series…) With either a wipe or a clean cut and I’ll see if there’s much more I can do about that music.

Using Ian’s actual voice is the way to go versus the robotic AI. Also, the change to Vader’s voice does somewhat make him sound like a younger Jones as well even if it still a bit off. Then again, I believe the closest you will ever get to the Vader voice from a New Hope is using the voice actor Ryan Golden who does an excellent impression. This is not something that really should be expected as your edit of the voice is more than passable.

I agree. It does still sound a bit off but hey! I reckon it’s closer and we get to keep James Earl Jones’ performance! šŸ˜„

P.S. It is much appreciated that you are constantly improving upon your edit of Rebels.

And I’ll keep going with it until the edit is as good as I can make it! šŸ˜„

On another matter, in your Tales of the Rebels episode about Caleb, the Bad Batch portion works out really well. However, I personally did not find the comic book story with the smuggler compelling. I think it might be best to just go with the name change being done to hide his identity to hide from Order 66. I know that would make the episode way too short so it could just be left as is for those who want that story.

I’ll keep this in mind when I go back and polish Tales of the Rebels (Although, this is the lowest on my priorities hahaha)

Thanks for the feedback! šŸ˜„

Right off the bat in ep 1, a couple things:
-The audio seems to be favoring the left side. This has happened to me when the audio layout is wrong in my timeline (5.1 and 5.1F have different layouts). That would be my suspicion.

Do you have any tips on how to resolve this? I’ve been teaching myself this editing business from the group up with this edit hahaha. In Premiere Pro’s timeline my audio is split into 3 stereo tracks (due to previous mistakes)… so it definitely could be a mistake there… or is it something to do with how I render the files?

I’ve just checked my source files and the left side favouring seems to be present here as well, so now, I’m not sure if this is a problem I’ve created. Do you have any tips on how to resolve it though? 😃 (I’ll be doing some research but I’m not sure how successful I’ll be.

So, on my headphones the sound favours the left. Likely because the middle speaker is coming through the left ear and on my actual 5.1 surround sound setup the sound is lot favouring the left and is balanced quite well. Would love to hear more from you in regards to this Kestrel 😃

-The transition at the beginning from the inquisitor to Ezra doesn’t work at all. It looks like a cross-fade and a hard cut put together and the music stops too abruptly.

The transition itself is exactly what the show does, I’ve simply moved it to another scene. I agree the music stops a bit abruptly but without a rescore I’m not sure there is much I can do to resolve that… I might come back and look into it again after I’ve given the other seasons some more polish.

The rest of it seems really good! I like the color grade you did. That and all the cuts you made make it feel a lot less kiddy.

Thanks! šŸ˜„ And thanks for the good feedback!

I’ve been playing around with the idea to use AI to change Sam Witwer’s appearance as the Emperor to match Ian MacDiarmid’s (As Ian comes back in Season 4 for the role, it feels odd to have them both voice him! Even though I love Sam’s performance)

I’d love to hear feedback on this scene šŸ˜„

s01e04 had a black frame popping up around 1:20

Looks like this was a rending error for the 1080p recolor only, so I’ll fix that up soon! Good spotting!

and when they are running from the parade and zeb says ā€œwelcome back kidā€, it is pretty obvious that they are running around some corners, so the next shot of zeb shooting the Inquisitor does not really fit. Maybe there is a way to rearrange this in some way?

I’ve watched this sequence again and feel it works just fine. Sabine and Zeb are hidden away from the crowd to throw the fireworks while Kanan and Ezra are at the heart of the parade. They then all run around corners, taking the back route I’d assume, to reconvene in the open. Zeb then tries to take a shot and Kanan redirects it to the Grand Inquisitor.

I could cut the moment entirely… however I like the moment of brutality it gives to Zeb, he’s a solider willing to try take out the enemy (especially given that I’ve cut Kallus saying he gave the order to kill the Lasat’s giving Zeb less motivation to target him directly).

As always thanks for the Feedback! It’s always helpful!

It could be worth contacting this fan animations creator to see if you could incorporate parts of it in your edit!

The opening scene I know you’ve tried to implement a few times in this edit.

And the other footage could be interesting in the finale.

At bare minimum, it’s definitely worth a watch!

s01e01:
The first scene with the Inquisitor and Vader needs a better transition. The close up shot of the inquisitor builds up to his eyes being revealed, but because of the very sudden fade out that reveal does not have enough room to breath. I would either give they ā€œeye revealā€ a bit more time to sink in or just show him from the back, not cutting to the close up of the face at all. (which would make the last scene the first time we see his face, which would be kinda neat)

I’ve played with this transition a lot. I found when we jump from the back of the inquisitor to Ezra it feels a bit jarring and the building music doesn’t have a chance to resolve.

I don’t think it’s perfect but the transition is the length of the original show and the same (just to a different scene).

I might play around with it some more but from what Ive experimented with I think I’ve already got the best transition (without having to rescore anything).

The scene with Ezra returning the lightsaber and joining the crew also needs a bit more room to breath before it cuts away.

I’d love to get some suggestions for this as I don’t think I’ve cut anything around this part so I’m not sure what I could use to extend this moment. I do agree though!

Last small thing: around 12:00 there is an establishing shot of the full city that goes by way too fast. I would either take that out or prolong it.

I’ll check that out and see what I can do. 😃

All in all, a very good job, the rest flowed wonderfully. 😃

Thanks for all your input! It’s much appreciated! 😃

S02e11 - A New Base
Honestly, the first half could just… go? It’s pure filler (yeah, the droid is with them later, but so what, it’s just a droid, these things come by like sand in the desert), bland, quite childish and it also ruins the pacing of the season finale. Then again, maybe I’m a little biased, cause I’m really not a fan of droid centered stories in SW at all.

I’ve thought this as well (hence the heavy cuts). I’ve got less of a problem with a character appearing and more of a problem with the locating of Chopper base… I’ll see what more I think I can cut when I next come around to it 😃

New Intro and Credits are very nice, ā€œartworkā€ looks way better.

Thanks!

In the intro there seems to be a comma misssing after ā€œclashā€ and I think on the 2nd page of text there are 2 different fonts used. Maybe the pace of new sentences appearing could be tuned down just a little as well, i feel like it is a bit fast.

Oh, so there is! Good spotting! I’ll fix that up when I get the chance.

The transition between stories is better now, i still think title cards would be better. 😃 See CWRefocused s02e07.

I definitely think functionally your suggestion is better however stylistically I think my approach is more effective.

If I had the opportunity to use extra title cards in other episodes I think it would definitely work the best. However, in terms of flow and expectations it’s a bit odd to have the second episode of a series setup a style of episode and never use it again.

Although, I’ll keep this suggestion in mind!

As always, keep up the goood work!

Thanks again! You feedback is much appreciated. 😃
