The Unpopular Film, TV, Music, Art, Books, Comics, Games, & Technology Opinion Thread (for all you contrarians!)

It’s the classic films shot on 35mm or 70mm, and not the newest blockbusters that make 4K Ultra HD worth owning. Classics such as The Red Shoes (1948), Casablanca (1942), The Thing (1982) and Singin’ in the Rain (1952) often have big improvements over the 1080p versions, while the newest blockbusters often show little improvement over 1080p.

I don’t think this is unpopular at all.

ANDOR - Disney+ Series - A General Discussion Thread

Pretty nice article saying the reason Andor works so well is because Tony Gilroy made sure the production team did not lean on nostalgia, which I think is the real problem here, most of Disney SW amounts to what is essentially fan fiction.

I always considered TCW the kind of TV series you watch to pass the time, certainly not the masterpiece of TV storytelling fans make it out to be.

In regards to the violence, it was edgy enough for a kids show, as they did show on-screen deaths and the occasional lightsaber impalement, whereas SWR severely watered it down as whenever a character was killed they always cut away to a reaction shot or somesuch.

Tarantino has gotten his head way too far up his own arse after Inglourious Basterds if you ask me.

The Hateful Eight was fine but the use of anamorphic 70mm feels like a waste considering about 95% of the movie takes place inside a cabin.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was a three hour long borefest, and I cannot for the life of me comprehend how can anyone enjoy it.

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place

Roger Waters is undoubtedly a great musician and and we can all agree we’re all grateful for his contributions to Pink Floyd, but his political opinions really tick me off.

One particular comment of his that really made my blood boil was one where he claimed the people of Venezuela are doing fine and are happy. Sure, it’s easy to say that when you’re living in the comfort of your mansion in the English countryside. Why doesn’t he just move to one of the many slums of Venezuela since everything’s fine over here?

Your ideal Star Wars Sequel Trilogy

That sounds like a pretty neat idea.

What if the Imperial Remnant was trying to distance itself from its dark past and forge a new way forward for itself but the Knights of Ren are hellbent on retaining its autocratic nature? The IR seeking peaceful coexistence with the New Republic but the Knights of Ren are still stuck in the conquering warlike mentality of the Empire. I would take away the focus from how the New Republic is developing but let’s be honest, conflict is what drives these kinds of stories.

A society at war with itself, one half looking to build a better future dealing with its dark legacy while the other half wants to restore the Empire to its former glory.
