So, I just got into an argument that the OT hints at the Rule of Two that the Sith go by in the prequel era (not even necessarily the prequels themselves)…

Yeah, the series of films made before there was even a good understanding of the world it was building is hinting at a relatively obscure rule made by people (not even necessarily the same people!) 20 years later, and it wasn’t just the trope of the Dragon trying to pull a Starscream while the Master looks for someone more loyal to replace him. Riiiight…

I might be mixing in how Nintendo 64 emulators do it vs snes. Makes sense since the N64 has actual models and stuff. Textures and all that. Although snes9x has some very good filters that remove almost all pixelation without ruining the look of the game even on a huge screen.

Oh yeah, 3d Models upscale much more easily; leaving you with the texture files to be rescaled or modded out.

Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

I think I can see how the Gorilla gate might help against Tow Cables. It might be able to fold its legs in such a way that if it suspects tow cable attacks, it can drop to the ground without exposing the underside, which doesn’t seem like an option with the AT-AT walker. Likewise, they talked about possibly cutting the cables with the bulk, but it seems the front legs also seem to have some sort of grill, which might indicate they are either blades or hide blades to just saw the cables apart with.

As for “bigger is better,” remember that the First Order is supposed to be loosely based on Nazism, and a big thing about WWII Germany was a desire to create larger and larger weapons.

Edit: Oh, and the gun on the back: If its gate allows it to drop the way I suspect it to, then the gun on the back instead of the head means that it’s still be able to pose a threat, unlike an AT-AT, keeping your angle of attacks even further limited (as now you have to try to hit the neck from behind rather than head on like in Empire.

If it’s a PC game I don’t understand why it would even need an upscale filter why can’t they just slightly modify it to actually render in a high res resolution? I mean if freeware super Nintendo emulators can do it…

With sprites, you can’t add detail that wasn’t there to begin with when projecting at a higher resolution. The Super Nintendo (assuming SNES) emulator’s tools for HD display are filters to smooth it out based on guesswork. In order to truly display a Sprite based game in HD, you need HD Sprites, which is why StarCraft: Remastered was made.

Yeah, but there’s a difference between having each sprite individually filtered and upscaled than just a blanket filter applied to the whole image.

Er… I’ve never heard of an emulator doing that. My experience has been that emulators use blanket filters too.

I don’t use smoothing filters for NES/SNES emulated games. I feel that if the game was originally pixelly, it’s supposed to look pixelly. Smoothing edges doesn’t make it look HD, and ruins the font if there’s any text.

On the other hand, it can be Absolutely necessary to have some kind of filter. 640*480 upscaled to 1080p without filters will look terrible, as you’re multiplying the number of pixels by 2.25, and pixels are discrete units. Meaning you’ll have added and removed pixels, making text and whatnot nearly unreadable.

(that said, it seems like the filters for SC:R’s SD mode actually work in windowed mode, vs Fullscreen on a 1080p display, where it feels like they’re trying to emulate a CRT display or something)

StarCraft’s Sprite based, So the original sprites included in the game were made with the assumption that it’s playing at 640*480. Before 1.18, the game would actually force your monitor to display at that resolution, meaning that it’d use the monitor’s upscale tools. Now, in the recent versions, upscaling is handled by the program, so it uses its own upscaling and smoothing tools.

I downloaded the now-free original version that actually has cross-play with the remastered version. I haven’t touched it, but it’s nice to know its there.

I was actually super glad they made the original free. (though they seemed to have made the upscale filter worse than back in version 1.16)

In general I’m actually pretty happy with how they made an effort to make the original version accessible, as it should be.

Smart technology is stupid.

My Blu Ray has the ability to turn on the TV, as you know. However, it also refuses to work and eject the disc if the TV is off. And it wasn’t even giving me the indication that it had power because it wasn’t turning the TV on itself (and I haven’t adjusted that setting yet), and it has no indication lights of its own.

I got a proper 1080p monitor.

I got confirmation that I may be starting hrt soon.

I realized StarCraft: Remastered could be considered the “StarCraft Special Edition,” because it’s going to add new interlude scenes and possibly alter the way certain moments in the original were presented.

At least unlike another Special edition I know, the f5 key will return it to its original form.
