JOHN WILLIAMS: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones Expanded and Remastered Edition - V2 (Released)

I really enjoyed listening to this! I don't think I'd realized how good the music is in AOTC, because the film is so bad.

A few questions:

 • Why use the Exciter plugin?
 • What're the sources and basis for the alternate finale?
 • What isn't in this release?

1: Because Shawn Murphy supposedly used it on Jurassic Park (And I like the sound on JP)
2 Part 1: A promo release of the clean music from the Across the Stars Music Video (it only has a small bit of it).

2 Part 2: The Sheet Music.

3: Alot of stuff, mostly statements of the Across the Stars theme, and some stuff that Williams wrote but never recorded.

Darth Maul is probably as recognisably Star Warsian as Boba Fett or Jabba.

Whenever I see him on a product I wonder how people are able to associate him with Star Wars, c'mon, he looks like a tattooed guy with horns, a generic devil/demon wannabe... or maybe he dressed up for a German gay parade?.

The Lightsaber or the Jedi/Sithesque robes...

The Empire Strikes Back IMPERIAL "AUDIOPHILE" EDITION - Restored & Remastered Score - J. Williams & LSO (Released)

4. Sort of a different topic, but I saw between posts here and there a bit of hate directed towards the TPM UE. Why is this? It's given me a lot of happiness over the years, but like I said before, I'm not the most educated audiophile, so maybe I missed something.

It has great sound quality, but alot of great music was left off, replaced with music from other parts of the film.

Wait, the only official release I know of is the Sony album (plus the Target exclusive track). So what are your sources? Blu ray rip?

In any case I am total agreement with you on AOTC being overly maligned by fans. IMHO I think ROTS is the weakest of the PT, though still a strong effort. AOTC has arguably the best love theme of the saga, and is also a wonderful tribute to mid-century film noir scores, especially the Kamino bits.

Would love links, thanks!

JOHN WILLIAMS: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones Expanded and Remastered Edition - V2 (Released)

Alright, I will not be doing TPM, only this one, and perhaps ROTS.

This is an expanded version of AOTC, I notice that this score gets a lot of flack, which is quite a bit undeserved IMHO, in fact this is one of my favorite of the SW scores, so I decided to right that wrong, for I felt that the reason this score is disliked by so many, is the fact that there is only an hour of music presented, from a 2 hour score.

So I decided to right that wrong, here is 2 hours of music, from the pen and baton of the Maestro John Williams.

V2 features enhanced transitions, removal of tracked music, some notes/bars/measures that were dropped, and edited replications of alternate versions (End Credits etc.)

(For the “Remastered” version I have used a EQ curve to create a bright sound not too unlike Jurassic Park, and the early 90’s scores recorded by Shawn Murphy)

Disc 1 (56:04):

2. Thwarted Attempt (3:20)

53. Dex’s Diner (0:38)
54. Attack of the Clones (Music Video) (4:32)
55. Across The Stars (Love Theme from Attack of the Clones) (6:09)

Total Time: 2:30:20

V2 changelist:

1. Star Wars Main Title and The Arrival At Coruscant (3:00)

The Main Title, the last note is extended a little from V1

2. Thwarted Attempt (3:20)

The transitions are a little smoother than in V1, plus I restored missing measure using editing and pitch shift

3. The Meeting of Anakin and Padme (1:25)

I removed a section of tracked music around 0:25

5. Zam’s Dirty Trick (3:34)

I was able to use editing to remove some SFX that were embedded in the Bounty Hunter files I used, resulting in a little bit more music than in V1, I removed some tracked music since V1.

6. Zam Chase (3:36)

The “phase errors” that occurred because of bad crossfade alignment are gone!

7. Zam In Pursuit (3:18)

See above

8. Zam Is Eliminated (4:02)

Went with the album version for V1 (see why below)

9. Palpatine’s Plotting (2:10)

Removed tracked music, shame that the real version of this cue has not leaked, it had a great version of the Force theme I am told.

11. The Library Scene (1:12)

Smoothed a edit for V2

13. Approaching Naboo Palace (2:25)

smoothened

15. Visiting the Prime Minister (0:37)

Tracked music removed

Disc 2:

24. Across The Stars (3:09)

Used the Kunzel ending.

25. The Spare Canister Caper (2:11)

Smoothened

26. The Arrival At Tatooine (4:12)

Changed the clean ending a bit

27. Obi-Wan Eavesdropping (2:46)

New clean opening

29. Exacting Revenge (1:21)

Changed the clean ending a bit

33. The Commerce Guild Prepares For War (1:03)

Added a silence in between the two sections.

37. Love Pledge (2:44)

Changed the ending point.

38. Entrance of the Monsters (4:23)

Changed the opening point.

39. Padme Falls (2:15)

Cleaner, and has the orchestra hit

40. Dooku Vs. Obi-Wan (2:36)

Edited closer to how Williams intended

41. Yoda Strikes Back - Special Thanks to GoodMusician (2:31)

Edited closer to how Williams intended

42. Finale (5:24)

Looped strings to sound better.

44. Attack of the Clones Suite (4:23)

From AOTC Promo

45. Finding Kamino (Original Ending) (0:23)

From album

46. Zam Chase/Zam In Pursuit (No Guitar) (1:01)

Edited slightly differently this time

47. Rainy Ramp and Anakin’s Nightmare (Alternate Orchestration) (0:35)

Same as above

48. The Meadow Scene (Alternate, EDIT) (2:13)

An edited replication to give an idea of how the alternate cue sounded.

49. Entrance of The Monsters (Sweetener) (0:09)

The bit of music that was used in the film version of Zam is Eliminated, GoodMusician thinks it was the Sweetener, so I label it as such here.

50. Finale (Partial Alternate) - Special Thanks to GoodMusician (5:11)

Using a bit of the original cue that was used in the Promo “suite” GoodMusician was able to edit it closer to how it sounded, though a section is still missing, I replicated that section by using a similar sounding section in the Revised insert using the Imperial March.

51. End Credits (Gelb Version, EDIT) (5:22)

An edited replication of one of the “unused” variations of the end credits.

52. End Credits (Updated Gelb Version, EDIT) (6:40)

Same as the above

54. Attack of the Clones (Music Video) (4:32)

The music video that is on the DVD, but taken from the Promo.

55. Across The Stars (Love Theme from Attack of the Clones) (6:09)

Intro by Ian McDiarmid from A Musical Journey DVD that came with the ROTS OST, the rest is the OST track.

But the the "Here They Come" strike on the soundtrack of every current version of Return Of The Jedi would indicate an swarm of TIE fighters about to shoot up Jabba's sail barge going by your line of reasoning (I'd remove that too).

Blame Fred Steiner for that.

I have said this before, Here They Come, is a Concert Arrangment of Tie Fighter Attack (Commissioned by Charles Gerhardt for his recording of the "Star Wars Suite"), which heavily utilizes the rebel fanfare (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/ce/Rebel_Fanfare.MID)

The End Credits also uses this theme

Williams has done this plenty of times (TOD, KOTCS etc.)
