I imagine it’s more that they’ll be a Klingon captain adversary. A Federation captain doesn’t fit in with Worf being the first Klingon in Starfleet thing.

Maybe they can bend it because Worf was the first to go to the Academy, but hopefully they don’t do that.

It depends on how long after DS9 that this series takes place. The Klingon’s and the Federation grew very tight during the Dominion War, even Chancellor Martok was excited that he’d have a Federation Ambassador to go “targ hunting” with, Worf being Ambassador. If that’s the case, Klingon’s may have entered the Federation Academy soon thereafter not in droves, but at least in a trickle.

EDIT: Additionally the Federation could implement a Klingon Officer Lateral Transfer program wherein Klingon Officers are allowed to enter Starfleet through an expedited Academy after the Dominion War.

Just recently purchased both Battlefield One and Overwatch; I’m very much enjoying both. Battlefield is an absolutely beautiful game, and at times it looks better than real life. I love the environmental destruction; there’s something so cool about starting in a grassy European village, and by the end of the match it’s a muddy field littered with craters and rubble. My only issue with it is the menu/user interface, it’s absolutely atrocious. It lacks very basic functionality; it doesn’t even let you leave a game in between matches, forcing you to terminate the game via Task Manager.

Yes, I love the game also, it is probably the most beautiful game to date. As far the menu, it is atrocious. However, DICE is getting a lot of flak for it, and they’ve proven in the past that they actually do listen to their fans, so I believe it’ll get a hefty fix in the next update.

Speaking as a Latino myself, we generally don’t take slurs against us seriously. They’re something to laugh at.

Hispanic here also, spic is no big deal.

In other news:

But we’ll also get to see a Klingon captain, a female admiral, a male admiral, a male adviser and a British male doctor.

The Captain a Klingon?!?!

Why not? DS9’s Martok was a great Klingon Captain, and he probably would’ve made a good Federation Captain. I always thought of Martok as the Klingon’s Picard.

wonderful the politics thread is locked for an hour, that will solve everything. Gotta love it, we don’t do anything about the likes of Darth Id and Dinkins, but the moment some regulars get upset at could possibly be disaster for the country the politics thread gets locked. Sometimes I can’t stand this place.

Warb, as a friend, please step back. Take a breath. Go do something you enjoy and forget about OT.com, forget about politics, don’t let this eat you alive.

Some of my favourite actors are Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. They should put those two in more movies.

Yes, together. Simon Pegg is doing too many roles on his own and I’m missing the back-and-forth he does so well with Nick Frost. After I finish listening to the XFM shows with Gervais/Merchant/Pilkington I’m definitely going to track down Pegg and Frost’s radio stuff.

I was watching Band of Brothers again the other day for the first time in a few years and I was amazed at how minor a player he was then and the powerhouse he is today.

Oh hell yeah! Red Dead Redemption 2…

oh. It’s not coming to PC.

Well, Rockstar’s done a great job making sure they never get my money again.

GTAV wasn’t coming to PC at first either, and GTA Online is now one of my favorite PC games at the moment.

They’re just gonna do the double-dip again. =P

I’m not nearly as happy with the state of GTA Online. Maybe I’ll pick Red Dead 2 up at some point, but I’m not looking forward to it. I don’t know why they decided it was a good idea to alienate PC gamers. Oh, wait, I do know why;

Really? I can’t get enough GTA Online. I mean everything is stupidly expensive, but I have so much fun just dicking around in it with friends. And the amount of free DLC support has been really great.

Look me up on GTA Online, same handle. At least on PS4.

Super jazzed for RDR2.

Me too!!! I LOVED the first one, wished they’d even update it and let me enjoy it on my PS4.

I’ve been playing the new BF1 and I’m really enjoying it.

JEDIT: Just saw you’re on PC for GTA, I’d love to have it on PC but I just can’t pull myself to spend ANOTHER $60 for GTA V. I bought it first for Xbox 360 and then again for my PS4.

Cumberbatch would have been more believable as Joachim. 😉

Great, now I want a fanedit where JohnKhan has a kitten on his shoulder the entire time. No one would mention it, of course, and it could make the film more enjoyable. That and Star Wars EU fans upset that he never played Thrawn in Ep VII could pretend it’s a ysalimiri.

Damn, I never realized that he is a perfect match for Joachim!

I too would love to see Darkness with Cumberbatch’s kitten sitting pretty on his shoulder. That made me really laugh out loud.

I want to see the new film, but I can barely remember a thing from the previous two, so I’ll have to re-watch both. I remember liking both, and probably still will, but who knows? Perhaps I’ll find that they both suck.

While it would help to watch the first one, Into Darkness is never referenced or mentioned at all. It’s totally ignored. Neither of them really suck IMO, but Into Darkness was a clear step down from the first.

Maybe Nero flipped the “odd number curse” to be the even number curse.

Yep, I think Nero did do that, Kahn was a complete waste of a character in Darkness and I’ll just never believe a blindingly white blue eyed Brit to be Kahn.

Why does it NEED to be known that Cho’s Sulu is gay to begin with? Is it just a lazy ass PR move to grab a wider audience? It is not an integral part of the story and it never was when Roddenberry was still alive. Now, Gene wasn’t the greatest writer in the world, he was the idea man. He had the vision and he surrounded himself with people more than capable of making that vision a reality. THAT is what made TOS so awesome.

I agree, had they created a new character that was gay, fine, totally cool with it. The fact that they had to piss off Captain Sulu by rewriting his character after getting input that they asked HIM for but didn’t like? This may actually hinder me going to see this film in the theater proper like.

Exactly. Again, if Takei weren’t gay, they would’ve never picked Sulu to be gay, and so his wishes ought to be respected instead of dismissed. Still, I don’t get the need to know what some character likes to do with his/her part, but if it’s necessary (?) then make a new character.

Chekov might have been a more interesting choice, especially since gay people are treated like crap in Russia.

If there is a third film, they will have to decide whether Chekov has transferred off the ship or recast the part. They could go the route of the animated series, (which Chekov was not in) and bring in a new alien face or two. All the other alien crew members, except for Scotty’s little buddy, have been essentially in the background so far.

I don’t understand why we have to make a current character all of a sudden gay. Why can’t we just get a new character if it is so important what part the character puts his part into.

It’s pretty messed up that they asked for his input and he repeatedly told them he was against it and they did it anyway. What a way to “honor his legacy.”

That’s where I am on it also. I have absolutely no problem what so ever with a gay crew member. I’m all for it.

If you’re going to ask the original actor for his input on the character he helped create, then at least respect his wishes. That would be the ideal way to honor his legacy. A new crew member would work just as well.

May not be too late to edit it out. If it really is just some non-space travel scenes to establish, and considering the opinions from Takei, make the change and go with a fully established new character in the next film.

This film is already going to have a pall over it with Anton’s passing. No need to make it even more of a troubled film with one of the elder statesmen of the franchise voicing his displeasure with their rewriting his character.

Not to mention the fact that, and nobody can deny this, the ONLY reason they chose Sulu to be gay was BECAUSE Takei was gay. Or else, why pick Sulu? It’s evident in every single TOS and the movies, he’s portrayed as straight. So, I actually think it is dishonorable for them to not honor Takei’s wishes, since he HAS TO BE the only reason they picked Sulu to be gay.

Is it just me, and my heavy Texas accent, but what makes me cringe when I always hear people call the Enterprise “Enta-prise” instead of “Enter-prise?” I mean, A LOT of people on most versions of Star Trek do it, so maybe it is just me. I dunno.

I’ve never noticed that.

Like I said, could be my region and accent, but we all say “Enter-prise.”

How could anyone sleep at night knowing there’s shit of any kind on the floor of any room in their house?

Believe me, there are entire segments of our society where leaving shit on the floor in perfectly normal. It’s sad, but true. I’ve been in these peoples houses, and it ain’t just in the “bad neighborhoods” either. I’ve been in million dollar mansions where the floor was encrusted with crap dating back to the 90’s.
