[Wanted] Custom DVD cover...
Time
No problem. All I did was a google search for "outer limits" and also "sandkings" and other combinations of the two. Then you can select images from the top toolbar on google, and it will show oyu images that apply to those searches. Sorry if I am telling you something you already know, but sometimes when I tell people you can do this, they had never tried before.

Do you still need a cover?

Yeah, that's the Trilogy set. It's all 3 films edited in chronological order as one movie with additional scenes. There's an older one, before III came out, with just I and II, and less deleted scenes added but some of the scenes in that one (the "Epic") are not in the "Trilogy" version.

I've got bids on a couple of sets, so hopefully I will win one. I just got the good news that my wife is pregnant, which means my "free funds" account just shrunk drastically, so I'm not going to go crazy here. If I get a set, I'll try digging out my laserdisc player and see how it works, otherwise, I would be more than willing to send them to somebody who could do a more credible job.

This, again, is all based on me getting a set, but I really am not going to go too crazy with a future tax deduction on the way.

I'll let you guys know.

Holy crap you guys are my heros. I just found this thread and it's amazing how quickly and concisely you guys planned and launched this idea. It resembles a military operation. I have never in my life been part of a forum or online community so completely polite and helpful. If anything else is needed as far as donations or seeding, count me in for either. I have a pretty good cable connection and it's dormant 20 hours out of the day, so I can seed till the cows come home.

Thanks again for all your hard work on this and all the many other projects I have enjoyed from you all!

Alrighty then. you are absolutely correct. My new forum alias will be "mr.misinformed" from this point forward.

Can someone explain to me why a VHS set like mine is going for $300+, but yet I just but a bid on a LD set for $30?

Also, if you have an answer to the above question, could you further explain to my why I have placed said bid, given the fact that the only LD player I own is older that dirt and is actually a "top loader" that more than likely does not work anymore? Maybe I should reconsider "mr.misinformed" and just go with "mr.impulsive".

I was talking about this in the off topic forum, but I thought I might as well post it here, too. I have an unopened VHS edition of the Godfather Trilogy: 1901-1980. It is 6 tapes, the 6th being bonus features. Here is the description from the case:

"Under the supervision of dierector Francis Francis Ford Coppola, the Three Godfather films have been interwoven into one production. This deluxe, leatherbound set also includes "The Godfather Family: A Look inside" and a comprehensive booklet filled with photos and never before seen archive materials from Coppola's private collection."

This is NOT the Godfather Epic. That is 1 and 2 combined. This is a limited set of 5000 that has all THREE combined. I can already picture a cover based on a family tree I once saw drawn on old on paper. My only concerns are a) opening the set for the first time, but really, what good is an unopened movie? It's like a virgin prostitute. And b basically screwing it up. I don't have much of a capture card, just an ATI all-in-wonder. I do have a stand alons dvd recorder I use like a vcr. It has svideo connections, and I have an svhs vcr, so I may try doing it that way.

Is it worth trying? Or is the interest not that great? Let me know. Thanks.

Please post it over at the "spleen". ;-)

In the works. I'll have it up as soon as my request in the forum is approved for posting. I havent uploaded anything from scratch before there.

Thanks so much for these. They are an excellent alternative to the GL versions. I made a cover for the Ep I edit, Vergence in the Force, if anybody needs one. It's one of my firsts, so any suggestions or criticism will not be ignored or found offensive. I promise not to cry too much. Thanks again for these edits!

Eliasboy, invest in a Canopus ADVC-55 or ADVC-110 (and a firewire card if you don't have one). You can find out more about them at videohelp.com. They'll allow you to digitally capture any composite video signal and lock it to a simultaneous stereo audio signal. Perfect for archiving your VHS tapes before age and oxidation ruin them. I also invested in a DL burner and the latest copy of Nero OEM, the latter of which was only $15. There are freeware tools that may even be better, but for ease of use, this works great for backing up my old video.

Excellent! Thanks for the help. I have everything needed except the Canopus. I'll have to kick around the idea of cracking that set open. It sure as hell isn't doing anybody anygood sealed up. It would definitely make a hell of a nice DVD set.

Obviously I cannot complete either cover for Episode 3 until the movie comes out to get the opening crawl.

Did anybody ever get ahold of these? I think they're great, but I cannot locate them to save my life? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ever considered doing an edit of The Godfather Saga, to rearrange the flashbacks into one long sequential narrative?

Coppola actually did this once for a TV airing and people loved it, but later he said that it was meant to be seen with "the flashbacks", so any hope of seeing it on DVD is probably lost.

I actually own an Unopened VHS copy of the "Godfather Epic" where Coppala edited all 3 together, AND incorporated deleted and newly filmed sequences to help the flow. It is leather bound and comes with a collectible book. i'd be more than willing to create a DVD of these if only I was a little less ignorrant in the How-to department in this case. I actually purchased it from Coppola Vineyards after I emailed then asking about anything of interest movie-wise they were looking to get rid of. Lucky for me they had one lying around.

If I can be of help to anybody on this endeavour, feel free to email me or pm.

I need to clarify again. I just puled it off the shelf to take a look at it, and it is indeed the complete trilogy on six tapes.

I'm biting my nails debating on opening the tapes to rip them, but I don't have that great of a video card, but I do have a S-VHS vcr. I have two 120gig hard drives for storage, and my C: drive is 80 gig. I'm fairly good at ripping and burning DVD's, but ripping these tapes would indeed be a project for me. Maybe if the process could be explained a little, I could take a step and crack open the tapes.

I myself would love to have this on DVD. I break out into hives at the thought of having to watch a VHS tape anymore.

How to convert AVI to DVD files?
Time
I new somebody once that downloaded a REALLY good copy of a REALLY good film <<<cough....cough...>> and "he" simply did this to enjoy it on my, I mean HIS player.

Opened dixvtodvd, selected the .avi file.

Choose "Force 16:9" and "Force NTSC" (obviously choose Pal if needed)

Clicked convert.

This left a VIDEO_TS folder.

At this point, I use DVDSkrink to burn it. I use Shrink because it's free, and it allows you to see a preview of what is being converted, so you can check the aspect ratio. Also, unlike just burning the VIDEO_TS folder to a dvd, dvd shrink will alert you if there is a problem in the folder or video files.

Ulead DVD Factory is pretty easy. I just started playing around with that myself. You can import an existing DVD folder (VIDEO_TS) from your HD, and add a menu if one doesn't exist. I'm not 100% sure about editing an existing one, because I haven't looked into that myself. I'll check it out more later. also, Pinnacle has some pretty easy to use software as well.

No sound? On your computer or stand alone DVD player? If the audio on the DVD is recorded in PCM, and your player is set to play audio out through "Bitstream", you wont get any audio. All you have to do in that case is go to settings on your player, find audio out, and choose "Bitstream". This is only relevant if you are using digital audio on your player, though.

My apologies for the problem, but I have only had the PCM issue myself. hopefully we can figure this out for you without too much hassle.
