Take a look at this comparison:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_sFW8grQtU

WOWOW has the original matte painting scene, don't know about BD (it should be the same); the bottom CGI scene could be found on HDnet.

You said the CGI was in the WOWOW then you change your mind with that clip while defending your position further?

It seems I wrote that the WOWOW has non-CGI scenes...

Back to WOWOW: I'm sure that EP1 has original non-CGI scenes, while the BD has the *improved* versions...

Well, speaking about changes, the BD has the better version, right? I could live without glass reflection, by the way...

But - and we all agree on this - the BD has the worst color timing.

What about DNR, EE and film grain on BD?

As stated earlier, the BD has some DNR on effects shots

The WOWOW does not have the CGI matte painting, but it does have more alterations then the bluray. They digitally removed a pole in the bolder sequence, removed matte lines, and "tweaked" some other shots as msycamore mentioned.

The only changes in the bluray are the removal of the glass marks in the snake pit and the new color timing. The bluray actually has the least amount of changes when compared with the HDTV's and DVD versions, although some may find the new colors hard to stomach.

I hate them

Uhh...what's this THX WOW HD?? The Wow demo was never released in HD, AFAIK.

There is a whole thread for it in this section of the forum

THX Wow...in HD? 720p & 1080p (Released)
Time

I want the simpsons one in HD

EDIT actually I take that back this is very useful as there are a lot of original 35mm clips here if unmolested as they look could be good for colour timing checks on the films

Got it downloaded

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1280x720 24fps [Video]

Audio: AAC 44100Hz stereo 1411kbps [Audio]

The "little ashes" sequence in the windmill was different on a number of releases.  I used to have the Japanese laserdisc and, from what I recall, it had a slightly different cut of the windmill scene from what was on the any of the other versions.  It was similar to the European cut but not quite as edited down in some places.

There's another trailer on the German release that wasn't on the French blu-ray.  It's not all that great but I may have to do an HD remaster just for completion's sake.

I was telling people this for years and getting shot for it for aagggeeesss!

The German set is the only time the TV version has been released on video at all, so I'll count my blessings.  The transfer isn't great but it was mastered in SD to begin with and all that exists of the extra footage is that and the videotapes that anchor bay used for the deleted scenes on their DVD release I can't complain too much.  It would be nice to see a better DVD release in NTSC but the likelihood of that ever happening is extremely slim given the way Universal has been handling the release.

I suspect that Koch Media was using a UK broadcast tape for their source.

The TV cut was never shown in the UK.

It did confirm without me going thru all 100 copies I have that there alt shots in the windmill scene on some of the discs (maybe LD)

I have the HD-DVD but I've heard conflicting reports on the German edition.  Those screenshots only show the French, US, and UK version.  Last I heard, the Director's Cut and International Cut on the German version are the same as the French release but the US cut on the German release is the same transfer as the US HD-DVD or UK Optidisc release with a higher bitrate.

As it says in my post 3 posts up the French and German are identical, to the pixel in fact
