Is there anything you do like about The Prequels...

Probably not. You bring up a good point, but I just can't explain why the Death Star trench run is always exciting, and the pod race often gets boring. Once again, especially the extended version on the DVD as opposed to the real version. With that in mind, the Death Star trench run gave very brief introductions to the pilots you'd be seeing during the battle, whose feats you'd continue to see throughout the battle, which determined their characters and made you feel attached to them. Except for Sebulba and Anakin, I never felt compelled to care about anybody in that race. When you add in that stupid introduction ceremony that slows the pacing to a crawl (hmm, interesting that Mr. Fast and Intense seems to have a knack for bringing the pace to a complete standstill during key moments), it becomes even more ridiculous, since he's now actively trying to get you to care about these characters, but it's even less effective (and much more annoying) than the very brief pilot introductions during the trench run. Just some food for thought.

In the OT you could easily have emotional ties to the characters... the death satr run was a noble effort with the whole good vs evil thing going on. It also should be noted that the majority of OT was the basic man vs man theme. The audience can identify and have a emotional ties with real people. Weird and wacky cg critters are next to impossible to identify with as an audience. The only person in the race was Anakin and he just wasn't an interesting character. not to mention the editing for the Death Star was awesome with its build-up and music.

Don't you know that teh interweb was made soley for people to randomly spout off their opinions no matter how irrelevant they may be.

Keep on trucking Adywan... can't wait for your edit

The falcon clip is pretty good... though one addition irks me a little. When the SD is overshooting the falcon you added little explosions that I believe cover up just random flashing. My question is.... what is exploding? I think you intent is, it's suppose be like flack that AAA guns fire at planes, but flack is an exploding shell. How does a laser bolt suddenly explode in space to make a firey explosion?

I realize that SW is not bound by science and what not, but I just don't care for the effect.... and don't think it jives within the confines of the SW universe. Just my own $0.02, as always keep up the good work and I can't wait for the release. I hope you're still enjoying the process because there are 2 more films you can work on later

Well here's your link....

download.yousendit.com/13EF7402452D3A14

The atmosphere layer is a little tricky since it uses PS's internal layer options.. so you'll notice that the atmospheric glow goes around the entire circumference of the layer. So what you need to do is find the atmosphere setting you like, create an additional blank layer, hide all layers except for this extra one and the atmosphere layer. Merge those two layers and remove or paint out the unwanted "atmosphere" on the bottom and sides. Set the merged layer's blend method to"Screen"

Also included the flat base map as well. if want any additional help let me know..

It was just a proof of concept only... but then again it might be kind of cool to have the angle a little bit different than it was in Jedi. It was intended in my shot that the DS be a little behind the planet.

So a newer version of the andywans clip could be...
1 Star Destroyer over planet
2 Far DS shot with maybe the lower portion of the DS just slighty covered up by the planet. DS rises up a little bit while the star destroyer approaches.
3. Close up DS and Destroyer... yank the planet background plate.

The blue color looks fantastic, Adywan. It really does. But, the problem is that it's too much like Alderaan. It might be confusing.

I've tried a few different colours & planets and the blue is definately the best. Any other colour just stands out too much with the grey pallet of the death star & ships. I used a plate that had no land mass so it looks more like a water planet than Alderaan.

The blue planet from a technical standpoint looks great, but I was confused the first time I watched it thinking it was Alderan as well.

What about a rocky planet with minimal atmosphere... it would be dominately grey tones with maybe dark purple highlights. I think this would work on many levels.

1. I can't think of any plain old rocky planets in the OT or PT so it would be somewhere mysterious.
2. Rocky planet == mining planet... great place to build something big if you can just use the resources nearby
3. (More important) Color scape would match the rest of the movie... Star Wars is dominated mostly with faded earth tones and grays, Empire: blues and reds, Jedi: stong earthtones and green
4. (Most important) It would make the whole scene more imposing. The death star comes from a dark and dead world. It serves as great contrast when we see it approach Alderan.

If you'd like, I can see what I can come up with... there was guy who had a website with a lot of really good planet maps.. his name was 3d-Duckboy/diabloblanco17 but it seems as if his site has gone away but I downloaded the maps many moons ago. Let me know if you are interested.

I'll take a look this evening.

I was surprised myself... but I matched the two waveforms to the best of my ability at several points across the entire film and got fairly consistent results. It'll be interesting see your results

Again, the delay of 1.017 seconds can be applied to the 35mm Dolby Stereo and any of the forthcoming soundtrack releases for ANH as well.

If anyone is having trouble adding the delay, I could reissue these with it built in. It would however, require everything to be reposted.

My best estimate so far--
SW: +1.018 s
ESB: + 0.992 s
RotJ: TBD (tomorrow night)

I think you shouldn't add the whole "Vader still loves/longs for Amidala" angle to your edit. The reason why is strictly a personal point of view but in my opinion the whole turning to the dark side because he loved her soooo much that he would do anything... it completey destroyed the whole character arc for Vade in the orginal trilogy. That arc culminates in Jedi when Vader decides to save Luke.... why?.... because he loved his son.... so let's see Vader turned to the dark side because he loved his wife.... and he came back to the light side because he loved his son... so the morale of the whole story is... who the hell knows.

Now I was one those folks who reserved judgement on the prequel trilogy until I saw all three and now that I have --I can honestly say .....

I tried syncing the flac/PCM files to the NTSC GOUT and didn't have any luck either. What I did so far is just convert the native AC3 file to wav and tried to sync the beginning of the PCM track with it. The PCM track needed like a 1.176 s delay(note the number is off the top of my head and may be off a little). I'd fast foward through the remaining track and they got out of sync after some time.

You wanted the "original" theatrical versions not a "nice, new anamorphic transfer of an existing print."
See this is the reason why Star Wars fans are considered impossible to please. I know all about the technical side of the argument. The fact of the matter is anamorphic or not this transfer is pretty good.

Oh this is too rich.... "I know all about the technical side of the argument." .....right
