STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>

Hey Ady,

Quick question that I don't think has been asked before re: subtitles for Greedo... will they be in frame our out of frame / burnt into the picture or selectable dvd overlay? Personally I 'm hoping for in frame / burnt into the picture because that is the most film-like in presentation... what say you?

BTW... DVD9 +1

It is called "Star" Wars... to my eyes the new crawl color and star field look great... although shouldn't the crawl span the entire screen left to right when coming form the bottom of the frame? ...different strokes for different folks I guess.

I will be keeping all the celebration shots at the end of ROTJ but just removing the "weesa free" line from it.

Including the non-descript "world music" ending soundtrack?.... Long live the Yuck-yuck song

Also for Jedi what version of Sy Snoodles will you be using, puppert or cg... I sure hope Lapti Nek is back.... most perferable the film version not the soundtrack version

As always keep up the good work man!

Apparently you've never used windows

Microsoft is one of the worst offenders of monopolistic and predatory business tactics in the last 20 years...
Look how long this list is

Toshiba is nowhere near as nasty as Microsoft but they have managed to screw over their customers too...
1 Billion dollar settlement

All I'm saying is once a business gets to a certain size, sooner or later they'll screw the consumer... no exceptions... even Google with their "Do no evil" mantra... I guess from their point of view aiding the Chinese government's internal censorship agenda is A-OK... apparently the Tiananmen Square massacre never happened if you use google in China.
Do no evil?

Overall the world can be a pretty nasty place... better get a helmet.

Also on side note the real reason Microsoft joined up with Toshiba is prolong the format war so there is no unified disc based HD... so low consumer adoption. Think about it, Microsoft is not a movie studio nor major AV hardware manufacturer. Microsoft is a software developer who just so happen to want direct movie downloads instead of disc-based media... guess who they want be delivering those movies to your living room... tadah... Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD?

Man if Lucas would only go the Blade Runner route... Work print, theatrical, directors cut, ultimate edition all in one set

As for the link to the screen shots I posted... I'm not aware of any screen grab utilities directly on the pc for blu-ray stuff... so they may have been takinng pictures of their projection screen directly... which adds another level artifacting... so the comparison between the DVD and Blu-ray is still accuraate since they both have the same additional level of artifacting but the "true" pctures of each medium will be sharper.

Check out the "ZOOM" link above each picture set... not exactly 1080p but they're almost 720p

I did the same kind of side by side comparison with my projector, ps3, and denon upscaling dvd player and qualitatively I say that roughly thats about the difference in clarity. In motion it looks even better becuase you don't have the artifacting that you see with mpeg2 and DVDs.

I think its more in line with... this is what the SE's should have been... clean up inconstancies and dodgy effects (by modern standards), and then add some nifty whizz-bang additions to make the scope of the film even bigger. All the while not destroying character arcs (Han Solo) or adding unneeded scenes (Jabba) or out of place "humor" elements (ronto-jawa hilarity).

Great stuff... the DS battle sequence looks intense. The only constructive crit I have is the tie attack (the one with cloned ties on the left and right) seems a little too symetrical... maybe subtract a few ties at random? ... Or have them attack in a wedge formation rather than a wall o' ties? Just my $0.02. Congrats on the video card

You smell what I'm stepping in Ady. In the rebel hanger, It's all human. You'd think there' be different species from different worlds joining the alliance.

I kind of lean in the opposite way... one of the reasons the original trilogy worked so well (at least the first two movies) was that it was mostly human. The war was man vs man.. which is very identifiable with audiences. Aliens were put in to add in a little bit of flavor... Chewy was more or less a lovable, trusty dog sidekick. In contrast the prequels had dopey-jamican-frogs vs robots... , clones in white armor vs robots, wookies vs robots, ...who cares.

Though it would be funny if you rigged up Ackbar in an X-Wing as gold leader... just as he's about to be blown up by vader's tie... "It's a trap!"

Just wondering if a 13 GB Jedi was on the way... the only two changes I would rquest is an upscald version of Lapti Nek be spliced in since "Jedi Rocks" is by far the worst addition to all three of the movies... even worse than greedo shooting... The music is awful and the "new and improved" Sny Snootles is just pathetic. A quick upscaled version of the Shaw ghost would be appreciated too.

I guess I should clarify... xbox 360... a normal xbox will not have the horsepower to play high-def video. 360's can play wmv natively... but a I can't stream to my 360 from my very old computer... so I'd like to break up the videos into 2 chunks for the time being.

I agree with this post a lot.... also some fake CRT scanlines might help to lower the tech level as well

Well I think they are supposed to be StarWars low tech, not Earth low tech. Personally I liked the new targetting screens, and even though I see the point someone made about having chevrons instead of the shape of the ships, remember that later on the trench run the Tie-Fighters have the shape of X-wings on their targetting screens. BTW Adywan are you planning something for those screens?

But those tie screens have the tell-tale CRT scan lines as well Keep the 70's flava !

Even today, despite them being far more advanced, movies still often tend to make computer readouts look "computery" because that's what people excpect and, frankly, I think it looks cooler - especially on the Falcon, where Han has put his money into making the ship fast - I'd bet a fancy targeting readout is the last thing he would spend money on.

Changing the TIEs to simple markers is a good idea, and I would personally alter the frame rate on the displays to twos (i.e. 12 FPS) so they look a little choppier and low-tech. Just dropping the frame rate and ditching any motion blur (if you're using it) would make the displays look a lot less "perfect."

Remember, Lucas made a conscious effort to have the Empire's gear new and high tech, while the rebels and much of the rest of the Star Wars universe was very "used" and beat up.

Anyway, great work and I can't wait to see it finished.

To all the people complaining about how loud the music is. Adywan has stated that it is a **temporary** soundtrack!!!! Does it make any sense to complain or even comment about something that was just put there to fill a gap for now?

Keep in mind those of us who do offer constructive comments/criticism are only doing so to help Adywan with the final edit. We're all amazed at the quality stuff he's been showing, but its always good to have feedback.... as long as the feedback is well thought out and respectful. Ultimately it is Adywan edit but that doesn't mean shouldn't give our impressions

I imagine we wouldn't have midiclorians or "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" if Uncle George surrounded himself with people who challenged some of his ideas.

Adywan,

Pretty impressive stuff... the Tie/Falcon Chase is really good.... no complaints at all from me

-----

And now for some constructive criticism on the Vader/Ben duel....

The new music is an interesting choice which to be honest I don't know if I care for it or not, but even so when Han, Luke, Leia are talking it should be slightly quieter... their dialog is getting drowned out.

New Sabers are great!

The transition from new music to old music (when Ben dies) is a little jarring... as is Luke's "No!" (was it shortened or sped up?)

It seems that the shoot out was sped up a bit to make it "faster, more intense!" The only problem is that it now looks like an old Chaplin movie.... everyone is moving a bit too quickly and it looks un-natural... especially the smoke from the blasters

---

Just my $0.02
As always you really do impress with your tweaks and add-ons... keep up the great work
