STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time
I ran some tests over lunch about the Cloud City window possibly closing (and when I say "ran some tests", I mean that I made my own sound effects while watching that scene on my TV). Anyway, I think it would work, but maybe something like mechanical shutters that can start closing as they walk down the stairs away from the window and snap closed with a quiet sound that Chewie hears and turns around to notice.

Just my thoughts.

A Long Time Ago... - Share Your Star Wars Story
Time

My story begins like few others here, I'm sure. My first experience with Star Wars was actually in utero.

You see, I was born in 1983, just a few months after Return of the Jedi was released. My mother was already a Star Wars fan from her youth, so she stood in line 3 months pregnant with me to see Return of the Jedi on opening day. You can see, I had no chance of a normal life.

I grew up watching Star Wars. A New Hope was one of the few movies my parent's had on Videodisc and their first movies on VHS were Empire and Jedi (at $50 a piece!). There was never a time I can remember when I had not seen Star Wars. I quickly inherited my mother's already impressive Star Wars collection, which grew more with each passing year. One of my earliest memories is actually my fourth birthday party, when I had Star Wars decorations and a Darth Vader cake (whose black frosting made my best friend ill).

Some of my favorite childhood memories involve recreating the battle of Hoth with my figures whenever it snowed. I didn't have the Hoth Luke for the longest time, so I used to use the random Hoth Rebel trooper as Luke, who I would have Hoth Han stick in the Taun-Taun belly while the Scout Walker and Wampa chased them.

I grew in and out of fads for years (Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, Batman), but Star Wars was always there in the background. The problem is that I had grown up with the movies so I had never truly seen them. I got the THX "Faces" VHS set for my birthday in 1995. It was then that I followed the movies and was blown away by them for the first time. The drama, the humor, I got it all for the first time watching that set.

Then the Special Editions came to theaters. I finally got to see the movies in theaters for the first time. While waiting in the lobby in between showings of ANH:SE on opening day, my friend and I were interviewed by a local radio reporter, who was way too excited about me having never seen Star Wars in theaters. During the movie, I was impressed with how much they had added to the sides of the frame, and only later did I realize that most of that had always been there, I was just missing it thanks to Pan & Scan. I bought the widescreen version of the SE set as soon as it came out.

Soon I found out about the prequels and got really excited for them, getting excited about feeling what it must have been like to see a brand-new Star Wars movie for the first time in theaters. I got excited about the first two movies, watched them several times in theaters, then realized how lackluster they really were, got tired of them, then got excited for the next one. The 2004 DVDs got me excited again about the original trilogy. However I did want the OUT on DVD, which drew me to this site years ago to sign the petition.

I always had a feeling that my love of Star Wars would find me a wife. I figured that if I could find a girl who liked Star Wars, everything else would work out just fine. One day during my senior year in college, I was sitting outside of one of my classes when I noticed this girl. I had talked to her a year before (on the set of a sci-fi movie my college made, but that's a completely different story), so I decided I might talk to her again. She had her Apple iBook open and was watching something. I leaned over to see what it was and was completely blown away. She was watching the bonus features from her own copy of the 2004 DVD (fullscreen, but she still had her own copy). I struck up a conversation with her telling her that I could show her the bloopers easter egg on that disc. Strangely, I couldn't get it to work on her iBook, but we made plans to try to show her the easter egg using another DVD player. And that's how our relationship began.

So not only did Star Wars affect my pre-natal development and childhood, it also helped me find a wife.

Here are some pictures my mom found from my youth, along with some more recent pictures:

And that's my story!

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time
I too finished watching Empire last night (on DVD, with audio commentary) and found a bunch of little things I think need some help. I didn't write them down, so they're out of order and kind of random.

Besides the obvious stuff (AT-ATs, Wampas, Fett's voice) here are a few I found:

* When 3PO gets turned off, he remains in the background of the scene, with Anthony Daniels still breathing. Since that whole shot is static, Ady could easily keep one frame of 3PO in the background so he is still until the ship rocks at the end of the scene.
* There are several space shots where you can see stars through the Executor, Luke's X-wing, and even Dagobah!
* When our heroes arrive at Cloud City, they walk down some stairs, and when they reach the bottom, 3PO comes out of nowhere to join them. I'm sure Ady can add 3PO at least turning the corner or something to give us some idea of where he appeared from.
* The lightsabers. Ugh. I know that redoing the lightsabers is a given, but I cannot tell you how frustrated Vader's pink saber makes me.
* Blaster bolts. These too are a given, but there are so many bad looking bolts, troopers that get shot without flashes, blasters fired without flashes, and even troopers with black marks on their armor before they get shot! I also think 3PO deserves to have a bolt hit him, because currently he just explodes without provocation!
* I think Taun-Taun footprints would be nice. Maybe even adding a spray of snow behind them when they kick up their feet.
* The Cloud City elevator. I like the SE shot with the open window looking out at the elevator going past, but after they open the door and Vader is there, it's back to its pre-SE wall state. I'm thinking that maybe just before the SE shot is out of frame, it could fade back to the pre-SE wall, like maybe that's how you close windows on Cloud City. That could also be what Chewie is looking behind them worried about, because why would they need to close the window view if they're just going to dinner?
* Cantina-ize us some Bossk, because he just kind of stands there.
* There are some pretty empty matte paintings of Echo Base from the outside which could better match the action (no X-wings in the hangers, no movement).
* Luke's X-wing goes from mostly out of the Dagobah swamp to almost completely covered in a few seconds. Maybe have the X-wing start to slip into the water when R2 turns to look at it.
* Luke standing up or bouncing back up after jumping after Vader in the freezing chamber has always bothered me. I would just keep that part empty after he jumps because I find that seeing him is unnecessary and distracting.
* If I'm not mistaken, I think the SE bonus hatch on the Falcon that Lando catches Luke through could use better synchronization with the exterior shot of the hatch opening. It seems like it is too far open from the inside shot to have been that far closed from the outside. If that makes sense to anyone but me...
* After everyone leaves Cloud City, R2 stops fixing 3PO to save the day, but 3PO dangles his leg around, a couple shots by the knee and the last shot by the foot. I'd be impressed if Ady could flip the leg around, because 3PO really whips it around in the last shot. It might be easier to flip the leg in the previous shots so that he's always holding it by the foot.
* There's Taun-Taun blood on the wall of Echo Base before Han leaves to find Luke. This is left over from the removed "Wampas in the Base" subplot. I think that the blood could be removed.

That's all I can remember right now. I may add more as I think of them.

DoubleOFive, did you or Ady do the "Luke-falls/Vader-yells-No!" audio? That was very well done. I would love to see the scene with this audio as an easter egg on the Ep. V Revisited release. Absolutely hilarious.

In fact, while I was playing the audio, my 9-year-old daughter in the other room heard it and yelled out in a similar voice: "DO NOT WANT!". I'm sure the "Backstroke of the West" fans out there can appreciate that. ;)

I am responsible for the Vader yelling. I was going to try to do the video, but I lack the capability to capture the video, or at least didn't have the time to figure it out before the end of April 1.

The fact that your daughter yelled "Do not want" just shows that there is hope for the next generation.

I took it as something she adopted when speaking in a diplomatic/official capacity, reverting to her normal speech patterns in casual conversation. This seems reinforced by the prequels, where Padme adopts different tones in different scenarios.

Or maybe the director wasn't so good at helping actors with their characterizations. Could go either way.

Ron Moses

If saying that she recognized Tarkin's foul stench is diplomatic/official, I'd hate to have heard her on the Senate floor...

Sorry to hear about your poor health, but at the same time, it's great to know that you're still able to keep yourself [extremely] busy with what you love! (I'm actually a little surprised you're able to post here so much. You must be good at tearing yourself away from it.) Your care for these movies really shows in your work. :)

Say, this is a bit off-topic, but I was just wondering if anyone knows why Carrie Fisher adopted a fake accent during her part with Tarkin. It was obviously a conscious decision (if it wasn't, they would've told her to cut it out, no?), so why was it done?

I find myself wanted to talk with a fake accent when I'm talking to people with accents. I always assumed that (a) it was her first scene and she thought she should have a British accent, which they later changed (you'd think they'd fix that in post) or (b) she was in such awe of Peter Cushing that she found herself speaking with his accent.

Come to think of it, she is the only person who talks to Tarkin who is not British. Maybe she was told to fake the accent to Cushing so he would think this was an all-British film?

Ady, sorry about your rude PMs and emails....

You have so out done yourself with this edit....you deserve better than having to deal with idiotic comments from the young moronic tossers that seem to populate the net these days....

Thank you Adywan for your amazing edit.

"Tossers..." I love British words. I never really thought how Star Wars is a world-wide phenomenon. That's the typical "Ugly American" for you.

Ady, I'm sorry that people keep coming to a FAN EDIT website and keep telling other FANS what to edit. I thought the credo around he was "you don't like it, make your own." I do like that you thought to share that HILARIOUS email about George adding those dinosaurs when he filmed it for a reason. Sad that a whole generation is going to grow up thinking Greedo always shot first, Han always shot twice, "dinosaurs" always populated Mos Eisley, Han always stepped on Jabba's tail and Jabba didn't mind, and every explosion needs a ring shockwave. I mean, I'm young, but thankfully not that young. I will do my best to educate my future children correctly. The only edit of ANH they will know is yours.

I'm sorry to hear that your health problems are preventing you from working. Don't let anyone use that against you, saying that you should have the DVD-9 done and be working on ESBR because you have "nothing better to do". Feel free to spend time with your family, I can tell they mean a lot to you.

If you don't mind my asking, what did you do before you couldn't work? What's your background in?

I am also waiting to see what Ady has come up with for his cover.

Ady,

Did you use oil paint, pastels, etc? I am curious.

Also, you sure you aren't triplets? Because you do the work of at least three people. It is amazing what you accomplish.

I've been impressed that he still has time for a "real job". I wonder what it is he does, because I don't think it's film editing, special effects, sculpting, painting, or any of the other things he's done for this project.

WooHoo. crossed the 5000 post mark.

Anyway some good news. Hopefully the cover painting will be finished sometime next week so the DVD-9 could emerge as soon as next weekend (PAL first & the NTSC a few days later)

Awesome! I cannot wait to see the painting. I'm almost more excited to see it than the DVD-9!

well i think its great what you've done with the comparison and also great that you've got yourself on the creadits :-)
don't know if you've seen the ADywan 3D logo at the beginning of the DVD 5 version of star wars but I made that and he added the Star wars various x-wings and Tie's which i thought he did brilliantly

I'm not in the credits, which is why I'm happy the comparisons are. However, your 3D logo is incredible. In reading through the thread, I was impressed that all of a sudden you popped in and said "I made this awesome logo" and it was adopted without any debate. I love it.

I'm actually going to try to add to the thread to get up to 5000.

I was sad that OT.com's sister site, Fanedits.com, only had information about the Xvid version of Revisited. So I tried to make the DVD-5 and DVD-9 info as best as I could.

I forgot the Purist version, but I made one.

I updated my DVD covers to reflect the newly revealed bonus features on the DVD-9.

I think they look great! One little suggestion if I may... I think the specs box might look a little more balanced if "DVD-9 Specifications" and "BONUS FEATURES" were the same font size (and both either all caps or not) and then move the bonus features block up so that it's top-justified with the specifications block. Kinda like this:

http://www.the-mosi.net/DVD9mod.jpg

I did a little rearranging to the logos and URLs as well, to try and balance that out a bit. It's just a suggestion, of course.

I like it. I honestly never worked very hard on that section, just kind of threw it together. I'll take your suggestions and republish them.

How many versions of this film are there again? I have the original release (beta). I have a second, tweaked release. And now I hear about the "Purist Version" and a DVD9. Can someone explain to me what the purist version is? I'm a little confused by all the different versions.

Thanks

The xvid is the rough draft, the DVD-5 is the second draft, and the DVD-9 is the final draft. However, the Purist Version is a side project, with some of Adywan's changes undone (no added music, no extended Death Star reveal, no extended TIE reveal, and Obi-Wan's Hut reverted back to its original order). Like a Fan Edit Edit. I've not watched the Purist Version myself, as I am pleased with all the changes made. In fact, these are pretty much the exact changes I wanted to see in the 2004 DVDs.
