STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

I watched it again in every version I have this morning. My mind still thinks "A Star Destroyer flying overhead. Wait, its just the tower. Holy crap."

As much as it's worth, I was doing some research on what others think, and it appears the old TFN Technical Commentaries agree with Ady & I.

My thought has always and will always be this:

The shot opens on Star Destroyers. They are big.

Then the screen is filled with something flying overhead. Is it an entire Star Destroyer? No, its just a huge tower of something bigger.

Another shot of Star Destroyers. They are big.

Then a shadow crosses over one of them. Something bigger.

Trying to replicate the beginning of ANH just focused on a small part of the ship that was in ANH doesn't make much sense to me. It's supposed to be something bigger. The reason the tower doesn't look different is because they had already built it for the Falcon being attached. They colored it blue in the original version so that you would know something is up with this tower.

can someone post a screen shot comparison between the two control towers?

Is the only difference colour? because if that is the case... this debate will never end.
Executor:

Avenger:

Of course they used the same physical model.

Has anyone thought that we ALL could be right? It could be a case that the tower filmed for that shot IS the Executor's but it was edited in a way that it is meant visually on screen to be a SD tower.
It's the same model used when the Falcon attaches to the SD tower. This doesn't help my argument that its supposed to be the Executor, though their towers are supposed to be the same size.

If this is the thing most people have a problem with in this edit, I call this a win.

Just my two cents. Fortunately for me, if I don't like it the way it ends up I can just change it to suit my own wants. I did that with ANH:R and I suggest anyone else do the same for themselves. It's not that hard to change a few little things if you really want to.
Yes, yes, to Stewie you listen!

I always viewed it as "look at the giant ships, now an EVEN BIGGER BRIDGE comes overhead like the whole ship did in the original".

This bickering is pointless. The "faded" film shows a distinct color difference between the ships. The SE team made sure it was the same color difference. It's the Executor, sorry that that doesn't jive with people's preconceptions. We've all learned a lot studying these films, just add this to the list and move on.

Are you 100% certain it's the Executor in that opening shot? I always interpreted it as look at how massive the bottom of this bridge section is, then cut to the entire star destroyer to show the scale of the rest of the ship which is then engulfed in the shadow of an even bigger ship that dwarfs the already massive star destroyer in size. The whole thing being a play on the opening of the original Star Wars.
I'm pretty sure we did a study on the differences in the SD and SSD bridges a few years ago, but it really boils down to the tower being blue in 80/97. It's a giveaway.

JEDIT: We apparently didn't compare the bridge modules, because the one in this shot is the same as the one the Falcon attaches to. So it boils down to the color then.

What I always thought on that scene is the reason why Vader indicates toward Veers that way is because with that mask and the suit in general, his expressions are muted in a way. So, spinning around like that shows how urgent the matter is, and how serious Vader is. That's just me, though.
*looks around*

I'm sorry, I'm guessing you're going through the old posts and responded to one of them. I'm also guessing you're talking about my favorite moment when Vader spins around and nearly clocks Veers when he tells him to prepare his men.

Video Games - a general discussion thread

E3 and this thread is on Page 2?!

So how about them apples? Microsoft made a huge mistake going first, I think.

As a non-pirate who doesn't deal in used games who is always online, I didn't have a problem with what they were planning with XBO, but Sony laid it down.

As for the price difference, remember that the Sony version of Kinect is sold separately at about $70 and Sony owns Blu-ray, so they probably give themselves a discount.

What is your personal Star Trek canon?

There are certainly parts of TOS that should not be held as canon by anyone. "United Earth Space Probe Agency", anyone?

Or that lame time travel episode with the secret agent and his alien cat.
Hey, that was a genius move on Roddenberry's part. His semi-popular sci-fi show was probably going to be cancelled, so he used the budget from it's last episode to build sets and cast for his next show, and try to tie it into the existing show.

The only thing that I notice now is Han surveys the droid over the cleaned up hill, shot of the droid with a hill in the foreground...after the droid shoots at Chewie Han enters the scene & takes cover behind hill....after shooting at the droid the face on shot of Han shows that he is taking cover at the same hill he surveyed at in the opening scene

J
Apparently they didn't have a shot of Han surveying, so they used an alternate take of him peeking over to view the damage. This is why Ady had to remove the debris in the first shot to try to make it look like a different hill.
