Different Names for Things (Was: Brand Names Used in Place of Generic Descriptions)

Thanks Bingo. I read your comment about rhyming slang in the Blu thread. That was a Sydney Morning Herald web address which probably explains it. I think that rhyming slang is so uncommon in Australia nowadays that if you don't use the rhyming word, nobody understands what you're talking about. I hear it used very rarely and when I do it always rhymes (e.g. skyrocket for pocket).

Dear ot.com banner ad service,

Please stop trying to make me buy Parenthood Season 2.

Thanks!

I didn't know OT.com had ads. Try this if you are interested in not seeing any:

Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Host File

It takes less than a minute - all you have to do is double-click a batch file, or rename your hosts file and use the one that is provided instead. If you use Firefox grab the FlashBlock add-on as well as it will let you choose which Flash you want to see.

In Scotland all sweet soft drinks are often referred to as Juice or Ginger even if they don't have juice or ginger in them.

As in carbonated drinks? You might order orange juice and get Fanta!

I think that might be stranger than using Coke for all carbonated drinks. Is that usage more prevalent with older people or all ages?

Dammit! DoubleKO beat me to my super clever side splittingly funny joke. That is what happens when you leave a window open for an hour, then decide to reply without refreshing first.

My joke is also layered. It includes a pun about the action of the hurricane, has a dig at drugs and guns in Jersey, then absurdly suggests that the hurricane may be cancelled. It doesn't even mention the TV show.

I don't mean to toot my own horn, but... *beep beep*

;)

^ That was a joke too. I made all that up afterwards :P

Members here (that know a lot more about film preservation than I do) will tell you that there are any number of sources (mostly involving acronyms I don't understand) that could be used to do a Blu-ray transfer equal in quality to other movies from the 70's and 80's.
