Army of Darkness - The Primitive Screwhead Edition (Released)
Time
Anyone who wants to download the first draft of my sleeve design can do so at http://download.yousendit.com/54C400A4738B1F1C. Any feedback would be dearly appreciated. As I said before, I'm thinking of taking the Anchor Bay logo off it, as well as making the main text on the back smaller and putting it next to a picture of Ash (since there's no Bruce pics except for the front cover!).

Enjoy!

Thanks Demonovation, e-mail sent.

Does anyone have any opinion as to what distributor logos should be on the sleeve? I've only been using Anchor Bay so far, though since Universal are the rights holder (hence why you'll never see another AB release of AOD again!) maybe it makes more sense to put them? Or screw them and put either DEG or Renaissance, or even RidgeShark's?

A small point, but I do want to get this right By the way, if anyone has a font that includes the Universal logo, please do PM, it would be a big help!

The Fountain (2006) Supplemental Disc including commentary (Released)
Time
Thanks pavemental (Malkmus fan at all? )

This should be finished pretty promptly in the New Year, though I've been having some problems with my DVD drive. Might very well buy a new one soon, so we'll see. Anyway, like I said I doubt I'll have the ability (or the time) to upload this onto the Internet, so if anyone wants to be sent a copy they can upload to Fanedits.org or something similar that would be very cool.

The only thing that might in theory delay this project is that I'm investigating creating an isolated score track

The Fountain (2006) Supplemental Disc including commentary (Released)
Time

Nearly finished this project, and figured I’d post ahead and see if there was any interest in it, or if anyone had any ideas for other things I might include. This is a disc of supplemental material about Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain to act as a third disc in addition to the excellent 2-disc DVD available from Kinowelt in Germany. (It’s the only standard-def release internationally to contain all the extras from the Blu-Ray release.) Here’s a rough list of specs, let me know what you think.

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2006/11/22/arts/22foun.600.jpg

<span class=“Bold”>Format: NTSC DVD-5 (4.7GB)
Aspect Ratio: 4:3 (Fullframe + Letterbox)
Audio: Dolby Digital 2.0</span>

<span class=“Bold”>Special Features</span>
<span class=“Bold”>·</span> The film with commentary track by Darren Aronofsky. This will be the only audio track, and the video won’t be the highest resolution so as to fit more exclusive material on the DVD, as opposed to a film already commercially available on another disc.
<span class=“Bold”>·</span> <span class=“Italics”>The Directors: Darren Aronofsky</span> documentary (58:39), featuring interviews with Aronofsky, Hugh Jackman, Mark Margolis, Marlon Wayans and Rachel Weisz, and covering all three of Aronofsky’s films to date.
<span class=“Bold”>·</span> IESB Interviews with Darren Aronofsky, Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz (3 minutes each)
<span class=“Bold”>·</span> Hollywood.com two featurettes: Premiere and interviews with Aronofsky, Jackman & Weisz (low-res)
<span class=“Bold”>·</span> “Together We Will Live Forever” (Antony Hegarty Vocal) – custom music video made up of clips from the film for this alternate version of the end credits theme featuring a vocal by the lead singer of Antony & The Johnsons.
<span class=“Bold”>·</span> Trailer/Teaser Gallery
<span class=“Bold”>·</span> Photo & Poster Gallery with audio of Comic Con 2005 panel featuring Aronofsky and Weisz
<span class=“Bold”>·</span> DVD-ROM: Screenplay draft dated 6th November 2003
<span class=“Bold”>·</span> DVD-ROM: Press kit notes, including interviews and biographies

I know The Fountain was a very divisive film, and I’m sure it’s not the cup of tea of a lot of people here, but for those who do like it, let me know what you think. I’m not able to upload the disc online, so will be looking for someone to help me with this.

Live Free or Die Hard: 4.0 Edit (Released)
Time
A German site has done a comprehensive list of differences, together with screencaps - http://www.schnittberichte.com/schnittberichte_special/diehard4.php

I see what droidguy1119 means - though the Unrated cut obviously restores the blood and profanity (and cuts out that stupid line about fitting the entire country's bank records onto a portable hard drive), some better lines were left out as a result (namely "I ran out of bullets" in the helicopter scene). I've only seen the theatrical version, and think there are problems with the film that a fan edit can't really cover (mainly to do with the script), but I'd love to see a cut that, as he said, covers the "best of both worlds".

So is it too early to start talking about cover art yet?

I figure since Anchor Bay/Universal/MGM have pretty much used the American and European key arts to death it would be cooler to go with something else.

There's the Italian poster, which was used in a truncated form on the old Boomstick Edition:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b208/djsmokingjam/posterita.jpg

Or the three John Bolton covers for the comic book adaptation:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b208/djsmokingjam/aod1.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b208/djsmokingjam/aod2.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b208/djsmokingjam/aod3.jpg

Personally, I think #3 of the comic would make a cool cover. Does anyone know if the TPB released by Dynamite has the covers without the logos etc?

Untitled Bruce Campbell Project (* unfinished project - a ton of info &amp; ideas *)
Time
And these are the ones of which known bootlegs exist:

Six Months To Live (1977)
It's Murder (1978)
Attack Of The Helping Hand (1979)
Clockwork (1979)
Within The Woods (1979)
The Blind Waiter (1980)
Stryker's War (1980) (though it's unclear whether people mean the actual short or a retitled version of the Thou Shalt Not Kill Except trailer)
Toro Toro Toro (1981)
Cleveland Smith Bounty Hunter (1982)
The Sappy Sap (1985)

Although Stryker's War and Holding It are to be released on DVD later this year as part of Synapse's re-releases of Thou Shalt Not Kill Except and Running Time, respectively, both directed by Josh Becker.

Not as far as I'm aware, I had to scan all the pages and send them to Scott to JPEGs. It's an interesting read - thrilling, in fact, when it came out - but quite dated now given the 96-minute cut is so easily available. The same issue contained a lengthy excerpt from Bill Warren's The Evil Dead Companion about the shooting of ED1 as the book hadn't found a publisher at that point.

Ah yes, the Jei Wea LD. A while ago I sent Scott a big Video Watchdog article about the different versions of AOD that was published in 1998, before all the DVDs came out, and that LD was the main source for the director's cut comparison iirc.

Idea: 'Salem's Lot' (1979) - a theatrical version preservation?
Time

http://digitalvampire.net/movie/1979_salems_lot.jpg

When Tobe Hooper directed the adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot for TV, it was cut down from 184 minutes to 112 minutes and released theatrically overseas, with a few bits of explicit footage thrown in for good measure. (This scene, featuring George Dzundra and the legend that is Fred Willard, is one example.) This abridged version has never been released on DVD. Using a VHS copy for the alternate scenes as well as the DVD, I’m working on a preservation of this cut. Although predictably incoherent in some spots, it’s obviously much tighter and I know it has its fans - plus it’s a cool bit of Tobe Hooper/Stephen King history to have.

Does anyone have anything that could amount to some cool bonus material? The Region 1 DVD has the overseas theatrical trailer (unfortunately I’m stuck with the R2, so will need a copy of this), and a cool Japanese trailer has shown up on YouTube. But I’m looking for any interviews, any excerpts from clip shows (a la 100 Greatest Scary Movies), anything like that. It showed up elsewhere under the alternate title Blood Thirst - the alternate title sequence, if there is one, would be cool.

(Note: Given the source DVD and VHS are from the UK, this project will probably wind up being PAL rather than NTSC.)

Fantastic news. May I ask what you're referring to by "extra content"? Any good rarities that aren't on the DVDs? Someone certainly needs to put together an Evil Dead Companion DVD - I'm sure someone was putting one together (or maybe that was just the in-limbo Bruce Campbell project), but there's enough stuff to go round. Someone's recently put a rip of the uncut Sam Raimi episode of The Incredibly Strange Film Show on Demonoid that's miles ahead quality-wise of any previous rips.
