In the 1981 print of 'Raiders' the Raven Bar fight was a few shots longer - basically Indy getting thrown around more. It was dropped from later prints.

Where did you get that from? I actually saw a VERY old print of Raiders the first time i saw it on the big screen a few years ago. There were no differences.

Second, the sound mix on the 'Raiders' LD is different from the DVD, most noticeably in the jungle sequence at the start, and of course throughout the whole film. It's worth hearing, as I believe it is the original theatrical mix.

If only we could get ahold of the original theatrical cut (from '81, not subsequent release prints) which reportedly had a few additional scenes with Pat Roach fighting Indy in the Raven.

I've seen enough vintage prints (and new prints) of Raiders over the years to know that what you are saying is entirely wrong. Caught it twice last year the theater and am going again next month. Different prints, different venues and always the same movie. No longer fights or different mixes.

How do these rumors get started?

Neil

Through posts like these.

Same here. I've seen Raiders 3 times (I believe) in the last few years. Always the same. I've seen old prints and new prints...and I will be at the same screenings as Neil.

Other than the staff sound, the rest is exactly what I've always heard. It's very possible that it was a different sound mix than you're used to. Remember the star wars issues?

And I'd love to see some comparison shots of the cleaning up. From what i know, the only cleaning up that was done was to the original film...and removing the snake reflection...which is still there but just barely.

Regarding Blade runner I have a few clipsthat might be interesting for inclusion on "The Unauthorized OFF-WORLD Box Set":
- TRAILER (3:23) This is the only segment that accompanied movie clips on EPK for BR-DC, 2nd generation off Betacam SP master
- NO GUTS, NO GLORY: 75 YEARS OF BLOCKBUSTERS (1:27) A segment from newer Warner Bros documentary, features interviews with Joel Silver & Edward james Olmos
- MTV: DESIGNING BLADE RUNNER (1:54) Bad quality 90s TV report from MTV at the movies, has exclusive interview with Syd Mead
- 15MB CD-Rom from Japanese Dokuhon BR book (only 300 books came with this lim. ed. CD rom). It has all sorts of rare photos of BR vehicles/designs

Personally, I'd love to see original EPK and all those TV interviews done during promotion of the film's theatrical release. That'd be the most valuable BR material to preserve since it probably won't ever be released on any official releases. These are the ones I know of that haven't been mentioned on the forum:

-Harrison Ford on Live at 5 New York - summer 1982
-Harrison Ford on local news program - summer 1982
-Harrison Ford on local news program "In Person" - summer 1982
-Harrison Ford on Today Show - 1982
-Harrison Ford on CNN News -1982

I definitely have those Harrison Ford interviews plus the MTV clip you have above. I just found a CNN clip from the DC as well. I'm sure I have a bunch of other stuff.

What's the trailer you have? it doesn't match the running time of the DC or original release trailers on my recent torrent. Do you have any of the other DC EPK stuff?

I just joined this forum and would like to say big THANK YOU to all of you who are preserving movies and related "making of "materials. I've been a die hard "making of" collector for a while now and most precious footage in my collection is press footage featured on so-called Electronic Press Kits - EPKs that usually feature unedited b-roll and interviews (sadly, only for newer films, but sourced directly from broadcast quality betacam SP masters). My collection consists mostly of SF films like Star Wars saga, Star Trek saga, Blade Runner, 2001, Alien saga, Back to the future and newer stuff like Batman Begins, The Island, Matrix trilogy, Constantine, Lord of the Rings trilogy...). If anyone is interested in full list, let me know. Anyhow, it's good to know there is more people sharing my passion! May the force be with us...

Regarding Indiana Jones I have a few clips of very good quality that might be interesting enough for inclusion on the next Indy DVD:
INDIANA JONES: EPIC STUNT SPECTACULAR (1:47) From Disneyworld EPK
MOVIE MISTAKES: INDIANA JONES TRILOGY (2:40) Recent TV report from Croatian TV, with Croatian narration
1985 ACADEMY AWARDS (3:30) Unknown source, features short intro and segment of awarded SFX crew of TOD

The last segment was included on a babyhum DVD. I guess the other two could be included in a future one if you would like. You could send me a copy, for sure, since i'm the one doing all the Indy discs. PM me?

To be honest, I dont' know the source of mine. It's very possible that it's Rikters. I'm not sure. I got it from someone here a while back and it's 16x9.

Well it's not the first time someone has ripped off my capturing/cleaning hard work...

Citizen,

To say that I "ripped it off" is unfair. You've known me to be on this board for quite some time now. I honestly had no idea where it came from and if I had, I would have posted it as such. I got it years ago (I assume from you) and since there's no way of saving emails on this friggin site, I had no idea who had sent it to me. I apologize and give you FULL credit for that transfer.

Due to the following quirk in the program (HDTV2DVD) used in making my original release, I'm going to go ahead with releasing my movie-only edition of Blade Runner which will, hopefully, fix any problem anyone might see with the initial release. Note: this is only happening because I'm anal and I saw the problem from the beginning...but it's barely noticeable.
i'll let you all know when I'm done.

Here's a summary of it:

The problem is, it looks like something went wrong with the pulldown removal or something else. Not sure, except to say that the "cadence" of this encode is screwed up with double-frames that don't change from one frame to the next. It's like you get frame 1, frame 2, frame 3, frame 4, frame 4, frame 5. There are repeated frames all over the place. This is very noticeable to the human eye at the start of the fourth vob file, but better yet, try opening the fourth vob in an editor or player and go one frame at a time forward. You will very quickly see the repeated frames occuring at regular intervals. Worse yet, the repeated frames look ever so-slightly different probably due to some sort of changes during the inter-frame compression of MPEG. Also, this cadence is not simply the 3:2 sequence of 24 fps film inserted into a 30 fps interlaced format. It seems something more is happening, but not sure what exactly. My guess is something happened in the workflow from capturing the interlaced 29.97 fps HDTV feed to encoding the MPEG2. There has been some discussion of this on alt.fan.blade-runner and there has also been a comparison to the DC-DVD (with an example of the cadence problem shown as an animated gif) at this page (which probably will be pulled down at some point soon, so take a look ASAP):

Sorry but beyond the Gongo edition, all the others are pointless. All are just ripped from the film itself complete with sound effects. The gongo remains the only one that is direct from the source materials.

BTW...that conversation with Harrison Ford disc doesn't have anything to do with Blade Runner. It's The Fugitive and Air Force One.

Although I'm new to the world of fan edits, it seems that this community is to demonstrate the love and respect a fan has in showing how a film has moved them. I'd love to see multiple fan edits of the Godfather series. There are enough dimensions in these movies that one fan's edit will be quite different from another fan's edit, as they would both be different from Copolla's vision. These differences are, for me, a great training tool to see how the same story can be told in different ways, just in the way they are edited/re-edited, and the takes or subtitles used.

This isn't a fan edit.

Isn't this just a combining of all known versions?

Actually, this set was given a faux stereo track. And of course Godfather III is a stereo film.

The chronological version was? Are you sure?

Very sure.

Neil

Not doubting you...but according to the laserdisc database, the epic version was still mono. Maybe the trilogy version was put into stereo.

The chronological version was? Are you sure? I thought the first time they were "in stereo" was the remasters set.

He's also using 4 different masters and they would all have to match at this point.

And yes, Godfather 3 is a stereo film and completely the same in all released versions on home video (which is why i'm confused about its inclusion here). I would definitely drop it as it serves no purpose.

Question: did you get a copy of the TV version beginning for 2? The version shown on TV is different from any of the home video releases.

Just some thoughts.

Just have to send out a bit of extra praise to the creator of this set for the very welcome inclusion of the Gongo Soundtrack

You're welcome

I've found the "Esper Edition" of the soundtrack by doing a search over at torrentspy. That set is nice for having allot of direct bits from the film's audio soundtrack, but the Gongo version is a much more enjoyable album.

I can't even listen to the Esper Edition. If I wanted to listen to the movie, I would. That's all the Esper Edition is.

A CD-R of those Gongo files has been spinning non-stop in my CD player for over a week now...

I'm glad you're enjoying it. I love the soundtrack. I've used it to relax and fall asleep since I got it almost 10 years ago at a local soundtrack store. I actually have a pressed cd of it.

It was mastered with a 5.1 track. I have no idea why certain people are having it show up as 2.0. My receiver shows it as 5.1 and so does DVDLab when i authored it.

When do you think that version you were talking about that used the entire dual layer disc for slightly better quality will be put to DVD?

I have no idea. Honestly, I'm being the guinea pig for the new version of HDTV2DVD. There have been lots of problems and more often than not, it hasn't worked. I'm still waiting to hear back from Chris, who has been great at working on it.

Beyond that, I'm trying to do my own work on it through TMPGENC which is taking a lot longer...but what can you do.

Rikter, maybe I should put together the dual-layer version of the extras since most of the extras are my masters. I actually found a CNN interview from 92 during the re-release with Ridley. I know I have other stuff as well. I'm sure I could fill up a dual-layer disc. I could do 2 discs and you could do 2.

Well, as of yet, I only have one non-official BR DVD, and that's a rip of the International Cut. Everything else in that collection, I don't have yet, so it would help people like me. Plus, an isolated score would be sweetness.

Everything you don't have is on my set. There is no isolated score...but a score CD is on my 2 disc set. If you have what you have plus mine, you're set. The workprint is actually pretty unwatchable.

I guess for the people that haven't downloaded the other versions, sure. But there's nothing new here. I have a bunch of Harrison Ford interviews and news clips that didn't fit...but they didn't really add anything to the set.
