What's the point of ripping and adding the features that are easily available among the extras of the UK box set, then, by this logic?
Because no one in R1 has them and they're not in NTSC for them.
That's not an acceptable justification.

If the material has been released on DVD, even if it means importing from another region, then you are expected to legally purchase it and use a region free multi format player to watch it. This statement has been reiterated several times now.

If you want to convert stuff to NTSC for your own personal use, fine. But if I see any discussion about distribution (torrenting, snail mail, etc.) then this thread will be locked.

If you do have any rare material that has not been released on DVD, then that is a valid fan project and the type of release that we would encourage on this forum.

Funny.

You didn't come into the Titanic thread when THAT was around.

This is an absolutely perfect idea especially since I own the Two-Disc Special Edition release. You might as well go dual-layer for this.

essentially, yeah. but i dunno if i'm going to do a dual-layer as they're more expensive. I might just do a 2 disc set and torrent them together.

Stuff like official Electronic press kit, Japanese press conference, UK tv newsreports will be part of my collection. I'm looking for TV reports from shows like "Entertainment tonight" and "Access Hollywood", footage from worldwide premieres, etc. If anyone can help me out with this, that'd be awesome (I'm open for trade or purchase). Thank you!

Should be interesting...especially if Tom Cruise decides to continue his downward-spiral as a total nut-job.

The supposed parody is only listed as a feature in a USA release and according to DVDCompare, it was not included in any other regions. The four disc box that I have certainly doesn't have a trace of it.

Because no one in R1 has them and they're not in NTSC for them. Same with the Titanic bonus disc.

I've also read that a US release of this film came with some sort of an animated parody included among the extras. This could be a worthy addition, too.

By the way, if I were doing a fan edit of this, I would have faded out as the bus is coming towards the border, with Red's voiceover saying "I hope", thus ending the film as it should have ended and eliminating the painful sugary beach ending, glued on after some cretinous preview audience asked for it...

I'm not doing a fan edit. I'm just doing the extras. This will purely be for people in R1 that didn't get the extras, I feel. I'd love to add the supposed Showtime special along with the From Page To Screen if someone has them.

Cheers.

I have one, as I already posted. I wanted to make my own transfer from yours and have it be dual-layer. I guess we're back to square one.

Hey all,

I’m thinking of putting together a bonus disc for Shawshank Redemption. There was a bonus disc in the UK but not the US so I’m going to use that one. Does anyone else have any rare stuff I could use? I’m told there was a Showtime special with deleted scenes. Anyone have that?

Let’s hear your thoughts!!

US Market Set-top DVD players that can play both PAL & NTSC DVD's

I had a demo disc that had both PAL and NTSC clips. I've played that disc in a lot of different dvd players (from ultra cheap to expensive) and I have never seen a dvd player that could not play both the PAL and NTSC clips. Maybe in europe all (or most) PAL players can also play NTSC but maybe in the US NTSC players can rarely play PAL.

EDIT: The disc was region free, I made it myself.

I've had about 20 DVD players (I have 5 now and they ALL play PAL - 3 are region free) and out of all of them the only ones I had that could NOT play PAL were my Sony, Denon and a Pioneer. SO for the most part MOST DVD players DO play PAL - the problem is that here in the USA the players are lock at REGION 1 (Thanks MPAA!) and MOST PAL DVD's are not Region 1 but if the DVD's were region free I bet you'd see and hear about more players that do play PAL.

Arnie.d - In Europe are all the players locked for your region or are they mostly region free (can you play US retail DVD without a hitch)?

Saying you have 20 that will play PAL doesn't help if you don't tell us which you have. If you have all Cyberhomes and crap machines, of course they'll play it. Amusing that the ones you mentioned that WON'T play are higher-end players.

As for Rikters "most" claim, you can see the truth at dvdrhelp. They list all the ones that will be region free. There are very VERY few that will do the translation properly, regardless of what he tells you. I could provide a list of the ones recommended. The Oppo is definitely near the top of that list.

that is exactly why I took Jay's advice and got the OPPO digital DVD player,i friggin love it,and when there are updates for it,all you do is go to the website, download the firmware, and burn the image to CD,throw it in your player and boom, all is updated to the current stuff, very nice multi-region player.
thanks again Jay for the advice

As a member of the DVD community, the Oppo is pretty much the one to beat for region-free capabilities. The rest of the ones that Rikter suggested are crap.

why not get the R2 UK DVD? That's widescreen and anamorphic

Thank you for the suggestion, but I'm interested in an NTSC widescreen verison of the film, not a PAL version.

Cheers!

You can use some programs to interpolate PAL into NTSC with progressive 24fps video. You'll get excellent quality without ghosting or interlacing (or speedup, even) while keeping it 24fps. Not to mention it would be 16x9 enhanced.

Any suggestions on which programs are best to do this? I'm assuming TMPGenc?

How about you just read what I wrote?

It was actually related to the topic at hand and a very GOOD reason to do it in NTSC now. PAL will be pointless later.

Help Wanted: 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' Laserdisc Footage - censored scene

Not sure if your interested,DFNYC, but if you are doing a Dick Tracy disc, I have some general Dick Tracy stuff if you are interested, like the early 50's TV series, there are 5 surviving episodes, IIRC, and the unaired pilot episode of a proposed series in the 60's. That one was produced by the same group that did Batman and the Green Hornet at the same time. The villian of the episode, in fact, was the same actor that played another villian, King Tut in the Batman tv show. Eve Plumb, of the Brady Bunch, was cast as Dick Tracy's daughter, but doesn't appear anywere but in the opening credits. I also have what I think are all surviving episodes of the Dick Tracy radio show as MP3's.

Thanks a lot. I wasn't planning on doing it. My interest lies solely with the movie.
