DF, so you forked out for one of the new HD players eh? That must have cost you a pretty penny. Which did you get? HD-DVD or Blue Ray? You worried one might go the way of Betamax? I'd love to be there with you, but until Star Wars is out on HD I won't be getting one anytime soon. The Fifth Element though makes me salvinate a bit though since I've heard that will be one of the first movies put out on HD.

HD DVD obviously. Nope. I got it cheap. Had a ton of gift certificates and whatknot. My total cost was just over $200.

Absolutely fantastic. Zero problems. There have been 2 firmware updates and they've fixed virtually all the freezing-up that people have had. There will also be another update in the next few weeks that promises some interesting bells and whistles: people are hoping 1080p.

I bought a 40 dollar rca player that turned out to be region free and I love it. I've been able to watch so many discs that I wouldn't have been able to, including Building Empire. It's been well worth it for me.

Good for you, then. I'm selling my Malata. Let me know if anyone is interested. I paid a helluva lot more than $40. Btw...you get what you pay for re: quality.

I just got rid of my region-free player and I'm never buying another one again. I'm in the midst of converting all my PAL titles. In the end, it'll be worth it.

Why did you get rid of a region-free player? And why wouldn't you want to buy one ever again?

I'm in HD-land now. No more SD DVD for me. With my HD player, DVD recorder, receiver, LD player and SVHS, there's no way in hell I'm keeping one player for a few PAL discs.

I will be trying to put together one with all extras.

I don't think anyone should have to pay $40 to buy a new DVD player to watch one film. That's a bit ridiculous I think, but at the same time it's also ridiculous to expect someone to convert a film from PAL to NTSC just for their sakes.

Me personally, I'd love to see an NTSC version of BE. Do I expect it? No, but would I like it...by all means. So if anyone's able and willing to convert and spend the time, your work will not go unappreciated I'm sure of that.

Anyway, extras or no extras I'd be totally happy with either version.

Thank you.

Building Empire will be done eventually. I'll let those know who are interested when I'm done.

I have been working on re-syncing it up with a lower quality video that does have original audio but not as good video quality for a similar project to yours.

Promo Only is a company that releases CD's and DVD's monthly for DJ's, clubs and bars. They're all mastered from original tapes and usually have fantastic quality. Same with CD's. However, subscpritions usually cost A LOT and you have to prove that you work in radio/entertainment industry.

Sorry sKot. I actually had the extras you sent me already. (I downloaded them from the VH1 website too). I'll try and make it up to you somehow.

One other question, which is probably directed more towards digitalfreaknyc: how did your capture differ from the TiVo version I have, and how did you manage to get better quality? No doubt about it, the footage looks extremely good.

I dunno. Had I recorded with Dolby Digital instead of PCM, it would've looked even better! I used my stand-alone machine and that was done in the early days when I was recording everything with PCM. Had I used Dolby Digital, the bitrate would have been higher.
