Whoops. Sorry!!

Whoops. Sorry!!
De-aged Anthony Hopkins was more than passable on Westworld, and they did that with a fraction of Rogue One’s budget. My guess is that the real problem is that they overuse Tarkin. The tech is definitely there to pull off this kind of thing in brief segments.
He’s in several scenes. And, IMHO, it looks great. However, it’s certainly not perfect. I had more of a problem with the voice work than the CGI. It doesn’t totally sound like him.
On the other hand, I’m now very intrigued as to who this other cgi character is.
I would assume he means Leia.
I haven’t seen it yet. Just reminded of how Lucas has said some of his colleagues thought the first quarter of Star Wars was too Sci-Fi weird, (like THX 1138 was) and needed more human stuff to balance it out. Hence the Luke and Biggs scenes, which all got cut anyway. 😉
Well, most people haven’t seen it yet. 😉
I’d say it’s just shifting a lot between different planets and different characters, all of whom are completely unfamiliar to the audience. That’s very different from how every other Star Wars movie started, aside from ANH and TFA, I guess.
That could easily describe the first section of the original before the droids meet Luke. 😉
There was action in those first 20 minutes. There really isn’t much of any for RO. That’s the difference. This one doesn’t start off with a bang. Quite the opposite. The biggest weakness is the score and the fact that there’s no crawl.
The first 15-20 minutes are generic sci-fi and “weird.”
Those seem to be in opposition, but I’ll trust you for now.
TBH, i’m not a big sci-fi fan. I never really considered SW to be true sci-fi. It was too human, for me.
Saw it last night and the Coming Soon review almost completely sums up what I thought of it.
The first 15-20 minutes are generic sci-fi and “weird.” But, after that, I was thoroughly entertained. Absolutely loved it. And I also loved TFA.
No. I can just capture Vudu films 😉
You’d have to find a source that will play Vudu at 24fps. Most devices only play 60fps. It took a lot of searching, for me. Finally found a blu-ray player that will do it. I capture with the Hauppauge.
you can update TFA because ALL deleted scenes are now on the 3D edition. Nothing is digital-only.
So still no full release of this yet huh?
Yes there was but it’s no biggie. So no one created a new thread about it or bumped this one over the last 3 years. You totally missed it.
Aaaaaand now the theatrical version is up on Netflix. sigh
Well, this version isn’t as highly compressed, but it is disheartening that they didn’t use it for the Blu-ray.
But wouldn’t it help to have the missing “Jake’s Death” shots from it?

Looks like none of this matters anymore. All will be included on the upcoming 3D set.
Well, probably not the episode 1-6 digital-only extras…
Hmm. Just Force Awakens 3D? They should release all 7 in 3D. Did they even make the others in 3D, besides 1 and 7?
Those were never being included on mine.
All 7 weren’t done in 3D

So – I can render this thing out very soon, just need to finish the colour correction. Considering the Blu-ray was DNR’ed, would preserving the theatrical cut in 720p be acceptable? I could do 1080p, but that would make the missing frames stick out, as their resolution is only slightly about 720p.
I believe Harmy showed that DNR’ed Blus sometimes don’t have a big difference between 1080 and 720.
Thoughts – 720p vs 1080p?
So you’re re-encoding the majority of the movie? What’s the basis for this “color correction?”
I don’t think the resolution of the missing frames is a major issue, considering how short those shots are.
I would still love to see digitalfreaknyc’s 2x BD25 version of it. Even if it’s just 720, who needs 1080 for that old transfer anyways ? As far as I know it isn’t possible to convert a compressed 720p MKV container to a BD25 without loss in quality.
My version is 1080I and, I believe, been deleted. There’s no reason to keep it with the 720p being higher quality. And you can easily burn that to a single BD-R
Well there would certainly be an issue of frame rate. The Blu-ray would be 23.976 and the TV version, if transferred properly and from a US broadcast, would be 29.97. In that clip, the TV footage definitely gets “jumpy” because of the cut frames.
Poita is a busy guy, and he said several posts back this was going to take a while. The tapes aren’t going to turn into pumpkins at midnight, so patience. 😃
So sorry 😦
I would love to be a fly on the wall when and if the pitch is given.
I love that you think it’s going to happen.
Well Mike has said he already had things lined up. For all we know, a pitch has already happened.
Yep. Because Disney is completely unaware of the interest…
Thank God this was pitched!!
What happened with this?
Don’t think this has been seen before…

The one single movie that I own on DVD that I don’t have in HD is The Opposite of Sex. I fear it will remain the lone SD title.
I’ve stuck it on the list. I’d like that one too actually so there’s now at least one more person on the lookout!
I’m pretty sure it’s been on Film4 in the UK and that would’ve been an HD broadcast for sure. I’d say it’s definitely out there, just a matter of finding it!
Thanks. TBH, it’s never aired on any of them movie channels in the US and that’s through Sony. If another company had their own HD master, that’s a different story.

What is high band and low band how do you know the difference? Are these HBO tapes high?
Is this edit still happening? Very interested in this!
The whole thing aired uncensored on HBO in January. A 1080i and 720p rip of this exist on public trackers.
There is no 1080i version available.
