Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

This is such a mixed blessing. On the one hand, I am super excited for this release. On the other hand..ohmygodhowlonguntilEmpireandJedi!?!?! :P

My (admittedly awful) attempt at mind-reading indicates that Harmy has plenty of changes planned for ESB and ROTJ, but not nearly so many as he had for Star Wars.  Compared to the Special Edition of Star Wars, the Special Editions of ESB and ROTJ reflected a remarkable amount of restraint by Lucas.

Well, here's the situation: I have my thesis defence on monday, so I'll have to go to my Pilsen (where my uni is) and I'll need my laptop with me. For the better part of tomorrow I'll be on the road unable to be uploading, so unless I start uploading tonight, there's no way I'll meet the 28th August release date. And I really want to. But I'm comunicating with h_h trying to resolve the situation.

I for one hope you don't hold up the release over this.  h_h is a true audio genius but it's so easy to mux in an additional audio track. Besides, this isn't the BD-25 edition. If it were then delaying might be a good idea. I'm guessing most people with a good enough sound system to appreciate h_h's mix and the wherewithal to download an .mkv of a specialty item like your magnum opus are also capable of using simple mixing software.

Just my two cents :)

Although it is not explicitly summarised in the thread, my interpretation of the release sequence is as follows:

1. mkv - 16GB 720p mkv, movie only

2. AVCHD - 8.5GB 720p basic Bluray structure, movie only

3. Bluray - 25GB 1080p advanced Bluray structure, movie with extras

Corrections to this view welcomed.

Since the AVCHD will be about half the size of the mkv, then the mkv will be higher quality?

ClownBD can convert mkv-->M2TS-->Bluray without transcoding loss.

M2TS has an additional timestamp field designed for random access in PVRs, players etc, so theoretically has more stable navigation than TS or even mkv.  It is curious that some members mention mkv as being better, but perhaps it comes down to the (limited) implementation of M2TS in the players.

One correction.  I doubt the blu-ray will be true 1080p.  720p as far as I can tell.

Thanks.  I wanted a username that was Star Wars related, but I wanted it to work as an acronym too.

Anyway, given that Carrie was apparently drugged out of her mind for most of ESB and ROTJ and turned in strong performances in each, maybe you wouldn't even notice the difference.

Now that you know the stakes, would you bet things are still on for a release on (before???) the 28th?  I feel like my question jinxed the project last time I asked, but somehow I can't resist asking again.

<p>The thought that we'll have this in our hands by next weekend is almost too amazing to believe. &nbsp;I simply cannot wait! &nbsp; It's been such a long-time coming, but the improvements have surely been worth the wait. &nbsp;Thank you for everything. &nbsp;H_H, thanks to you too, for the great audio.</p>

It would be great, if someone could post screenshots of all the shots where Vaders buttons are blue, ideally with PAL GOUT timecodes, I'm kind of losing track.

Also, Harmy, not to come across as a greedy twit, but have you received any reference shots for Reel 3 yet?  Can't wait to see what you've done to Mos Eisely!

I recognize that the color is inconsistent in the GOUT.  I'm not commenting on skin tones, or the general tint of an entire scene.  I'm pointing out a discrete inconsistency that is specific to a very small area of one scene.

I also know that the blue buttons on Vader's chest piece have been a point raised in this thread before and I believe that Harmy has already changed those buttons back to green in a number of shots.  It's possible that the GOUT got Vader's button wrong.  It's also possible (maybe even probable given that the buttons have been changed to green in a number of other scenes) that this was a change that Harmy missed.

As I recall, in the last work print, Harmy missed the color switch to the landing pod hatch. It's a good thing that everyone didn't adhere to FO's message, otherwise that omission would have remained in the final product.

If I'm wrong and I wasted Harmy's time, I apologize.  Harmy, I am incredibly grateful for everything you've done and for your willingness to share it with us all.  Thank you, again.

Harmy,

I just finished watching the work print and while I haven't had a chance to do a detailed comparison at the GOUT, I did notice one issue that popped up towards the end....Vader's top button.

While they are the proper color for most of the council meeting, at 36:58 the top button switches back to blue.  I checked the GOUT and it should be green in that shot. Strangely enough, two shots later, when the button becomes visible again (about 37:02), the color is blue in the GOUT.

In truth, I could care less about this minor issue, as the work print is simply marvelous.  I only point it out because I understand that you wanted to be made aware of inconsistencies compared to the GOUT.

Yes, I'm done with what I have so far but I didn't even get a full reel this time, so I'm waiting for the rest.

If you don't mind me asking, how much of the film is included on reel 2?  I ask because it sounds from some of your other posts like you might be approaching the 43 minute mark .... (by the way, my fingers are crossed that you are, as I - along with countless others I am sure - simply cannot wait until you release your next work print).
