Help Wanted: with a PAL CDV transfer
Time

I have a PAL CDV CD with a rare music video that I’ve been trying to get captured but the problem is that my laserdisc player is NTSC only so I am not able to do it myself.

What I’m asking for is help from someone who has a PAL laserdisc player that plays CDV CDs and is willing to capture the video for me.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Info: Batman (1989) - 4K Teal Tint and SFX revision

What “original DTS mix?” There was no DTS in 1989.

I didn’t say it was from 1989 and its irrelevant when the first DTS mix was made since it is still the original DTS mix, the original theatrical mix is something else entirely.

There are three known DTS mixes:
-the original DTS mix found on the DVD previously mentioned
-the DTS mix found on the blu-ray
-the DTS mix found on the 4K disc which has updated sfx

The new 4K remaster of Batman (1989) has replaced the original sound effects with new modern ones which makes for a somewhat distracting experience for some viewers. The original mix is NOT included on the 4K disc. Also it looks like the color grading was tweaked to include a fresh new teal look.

This 2-Disc Special Edition DVD has the Original DTS Mix not found on the blu-ray or the 4K releases.

Syncing the original DTS mix from the old 2-disc special edition DVD would solve the SFX revisions but it looks like the teal is here to stay.

Info: Upcoming... 'Skyfall' airing on Syfy, possibly open matte?

Skyfall does appear to have been broadcast open matte:

Would it be better to try and get it from Epix or Amazon Prime?

For the moment the Syfy capture will be serviceable at least until a rental is available on Amazon prime (then I can find out if their version is open matte). I can edit the commercials out too.

As far as the Daniel Craig movies go, looks like there isn’t an open matte version publicly available for Casino Royale or Spectre.

We know there are open mattes of Quantum of Solace and Skyfall out there somewhere and hopefully someday we’ll be able to see them. I’ve been asking people who say they have them but so far I haven’t had any luck in getting a response.

Weird, at least one shot I remember was opened up in Casino Royale FS from watching it years ago, in the opening when Bond and the guy are talking in the office and they would be on the very right and left of the screen.

Looks like that scene (~7 seconds long) is kind of open matte it has some picture cut on the sides but for sure is open on the top and bottom

Then it goes to this

Like SilverWook said, its enough to drive you crazy!

EDIT
Still I’m curious to see how the UMD version compares to this.

Yeah I recorded Casino Royale off of BBC America last week but it was 16:9 cropped too. Needless to say I promptly deleted it.

The Casino Royale Fullscreen DVD I ordered shipped out this morning. I will post the results here once I receive it.

I would love to see Skyfall in open matte, I still wish I had seen it in IMAX when I had the chance. 😦

In addition to Casino Royale, it looks like the initial DVD releases were released in fullscreen, most probably pan and scan. Of course without having the actual DVD one can’t be certain but the first Bond movies were hard matted 1.66 so they are definitely pan and scan. TMWTGG FS DVD surely has open matte shots mixed with pan and scan shots.

I suspect that some other Moore titles might have varying AR also. If anyone has any of these early FS DVDs your input would be appreciated.

The rumor is that the Bond movies will be released in 4K prior to Bond 25’s release next year. Two things I am hoping for these purported releases: An uncut release of Casino Royale in the US and the IMAX version of Skyfall.

Earlier today I bought the Fullscreen DVD of Casino Royale to see if it truly is Open Matte, I will post the results here.

EDIT: Skyfall is one of faves also, saw it twice in the theater but never in IMAX. The nearest IMAX theater was 45 minutes away and I couldn’t spare the time and gas as I was in college/working full-time at the time. 😦
