The Blackened Mantle (3-in-1 Prequel Trilogy Fan Edit) is finally back on YouTube!

So I’ve done some digging on the internet, and a found a copy of this edit that is better quality than the one available from the description in the youtube video linked in the OP. It’s still highly compressed, but it doesn’t have the weird framerate issues of that version and it’s a bit higher resolution. PM me if you’d like a link.

I’d love a link.

Premiere Pro CS6 Fanediting Tutorial
Time

I was wondering a source where you can learn the basics of fanediting in Adobe premier pro CS6. IMO the finest technical quality of fanedits Iv seen is Hal9000’s prequel edits. The cuts are seamless and transitions are gorgeously done. Basically, what’s a good resource for learning how to import, trim, add transitions, work with audio transitions, color correct, and export a nice and tidy 1080p Mkv with surround sound. It’s like Ocotroxs prequel fanedit mashups.

I’d like to do a personal mashup of different prequel edits to form my definitives. It’ll be a pretty simple mashup that is just for myself considering how small the changes are:

Episode 1:

-Use L8wtrs opening crawl
-seamlessly cut to Hal’s once they arrive on the ship
-after Qui Gons death seamlessly cut to L8wtrs edit.

Episode 2:
-L8wtrs opening
-Cut to hal9000 V4 once they enter cantina
-cut to hal9000 V3 when Obi Wan is arriving to Kamino to have no dinner scene with padmes family (sorry I hate it)
-cut to Q2 for pre-execution kiss
-cut to Hal’s V4 once they confront Dooku

Episode 3:
-open with L8wtrs
-cut to Hal’s V4 after Dooku fight
-cut to L8wtr when Anakin flips up and starts clashing sabers with obi wan
-cut to blu Ray once Bail rescues yoda
-cut to L8wtrs after the “I have failed you” convo

So I would need a knowledge of keeping consistent colors throughout, do audio transitions and how to export it with no quality loss and surround sound intact.

Just a good source or any knowledge would mean the world to me. Thank your everyone!

Estimating the original colors of the original Star Wars trilogy

Yes, I noticed it too. The reality is, that any color balancing algorithm uses some criterium to balance the colors. Mine is no different. The second reel has a lot of red/orange in almost every shot, and almost no green, meaning that the colors are pretty biased, and therefore unbalanced:

It’s very difficult to find shots with sufficient amounts of red, green, and blue to calibrate the algorithm. I’m trying to figure out a way around this, but this is a bit of a challenge. The current algorithm is less sensitive to this problem, but as these shots show, apparently still too sensitive.

Am I the only one who thinks this image FEELS perfect? 😃

+1 😉

I know I’m super late with this, but I’ve had this crawl floating around in my head for months now and I’d really like to know what you think about it:

The state of the galaxy
remains in a fragile balance.
The sinister FIRST ORDER has
risen from the ashes of the
Empire and is threatening the
New Republic.

With the Jedi gone and the
government slow to react,
only a small but brave
RESISTANCE, led by General
Leia Organa, stands against
the forces of evil.

Desperate for help, Leia has
sent her most daring pilot on
a secret mission to Jakku,
where an old ally has
discovered a clue to the
whereabouts of the last Jedi…

My goal was to get it in line with the other crawls in that it starts with the galactic situation and then focuses more and more on the main characters and what’s going to happen. That’s why I removed the “Luke Skywalker has vanished.” line even though I really like it.
I’ve also been thinking about including that SKB is a Sith weapon but in the end I decided against it. Wouldn’t be hard to add that to the first paragraph though.
Earlier I also had “young Republic” instead of “New Republic”, but I wanted to add the New and “young New Republic” sounds weird.

And I think I got the first line from someone in this thread, but I don’t have the time to check who it was right now.

Let me know what you think.

Nice work and all its just “Luke Skywalker has vanished” is something that really stuck with me. It’s my favorite opening line of any crawl.

Speaking of which, a good line from the prequels (if there ever was one) is Padme’s “Oh, but Anakin is just a learner”, while not even looking in his direction.

Hands down for me one of the worst scenes in any of the Star Wars prequels. Its so cringey

NO EXCUSE ME!

ONE of the worst because it is. Makes Anakin into a bipolar asshole and is just more political exposition.

Captain America: Civil War (2016): 7/10

I liked it so much more watching it a second time. I actually cared about the characters and was entertained for one thing. It still has flaws, but I don’t think they outweigh the good things.

Glad that you liked it more the second time. I was wondering if you still maintain that the colors sucked in the film? I thought they were so bland

Well, she has a line there in the CAM bootleg version, so…

Seconded. There are two different main cam sources with different audio tracks with differences between the two that I’ve noticed. She does say a line in one of them.

The cam videos come from non-English versions of the film, from what I’ve seen. Is the audio a sort of patchwork from multiple sources, or is it a straight rip of the English audio?

Out of the 5 times I saw it I remember no line.

My main problem with Revisited wasn’t the added music, but the fact that no physical editing to the Darth v Obi fight itself was done.

Actually, the fight is heavily re-edited in Revisited.

That’s what I thought haha I felt adywan made them seem already like 10 years younger when they’re fighting.

Spiderman from the Raimi movies is a different person than the Spiderman from the Amazing Spiderman movies, who is a different character from the MCU, who is a different character than the Spiderman from the 60’s show, who is a different character than … So no, we don’t know his backstory

I’m pretty sure in every single one of those Spider-Man gets bit by a spider, his uncle dies and he takes on the mantle of Spider-Man.

and it’s weird that Tony Stark suddenly visits a teenager who we never seen before and asks him to help him.

It was acutually a really awesome character dynamic where Tony kind of was like a father figure in that moment. and it was funny when he showed up.

Black Panther - before seeing the trailer I didn’t even know such a superhero exists. After seeing the movie I know he exists and he’s from some fake African country. I know nothing about him as a person and nothing about him as a superhero.

They let you understand him as a person and they even give him an arc in the movie where he lets go of his hate. I didn’t have any background with Black Panther and I thought he was one of the coolest characters in the film.

Bucky - you didn’t understand what I was trying to say. Sure, they were friends. What I was trying to say is that in my opinion Steve Rogers had no real reason to chose a guy who is a known mass murderer over people who he knows are actually good, it goes strictly against the character which was shown in the previous movies.

Your forgetting that he didn’t choose a mass murderer over others. He chose his best friend. Bucky didn’t actually do it, his mind was manipulated and Steve still cares and sympathizes with Bucky because be knows how mentally abused Bucky has been. It’s actually a very nuanced and understandable relationship.

Just to be sure - I have never read any of the comic books, I am judging the characters only from what I’ve seen in the previous MCU movies.

Same here.

I’ve seen it last night. Short version - it’s good. It’s not excellent, but it’s not bad, it’s just “good”.
Long version -
Good things :

  • pacing is done correctly, the movie is fast when it needs to be fast and it’s slow when it needs to be slow.

This was actually one of my few problems with civil war.

  • action - every action scene in the movie (at there’s a lot of them) is GREAT.

100% agreed

  • effects - most of the time I had no clue what is real and what’s CG, which is a GOOD thing and a huge improvement to Age of Ultron.

I thought they were pretty well done except some shots during the airport scene.

  • the whole movie is entertaining
  • nice Star Wars homage / rip-off

One of my favorite parts of the airport scene 😃

Bad things :

  • new characters are not developed properly, basically they’re not developed at all. I think they made a huge mistake that they didn’t do solo movies for Spiderman and Black Panther before this movie.

Interestingly enough this is where I disagree immensely. The sudden no-origin introduction of these two characters is thrilling and appreciated because as most people think origins are getting old but I understand this may be a problem for you and respect but most of the masses have shown to be anti-origin like myself when it comes to certain characters more so to Spider-Man.

  • what the hell are exactly the powers of Scarlett Witch and Vision? Every single time they did something I was just staring at the screen confused. I know her powers were introduced with “weird” in Ultron but did Vision have these powers? Explain, movie !

I agree about Scarlett witch but just another small nitpick. Vision is still pretty mysterious but I feel Age of Ultron was sufficient and in Civil War he even talks about his varying control he has over his powers which was very insightful.

  • Spiderman. Not sure how anybody can like him. I am a huge fan of the character and the Raimi movies, and I hated Spiderman in this movie. He was almost as annoying as Jar Jar Binks. You are watching something which should be an emotional battle between close friends and the tone gets suddenly interrupted by Spiderman acting nervous, clumsy, or throwing some funny one liners. For the first (and maybe second) time it was quite funny, but as he kept on continuing I was seriously like “Shut the f up!”

So here’s the deal. The emotionally powerful fight that they had for almost pure emotion was the end. The airport scene really gave you the fun light vibe of “I have to bring you in but I don’t wanna kill you”. It shows that some might be pulling punches. So when a certain part of the ending of the airport scene happen it hits you hard and ends the fight.

  • Captain America was portrait as a complete asshole in this movie. I liked him in the previous movies, Chris Evans has portrayed the most charismatic superhero since Chris Reeves’s Superman, but in this movie he basically abandons all his friends, and his government to basically help a serial killer who used to be his friend decades ago. The real Captain America as developed in the previous movies would try to arrest him and trust the system. The new captain just fights his friends without any good reason. Even in the trailer Tony says with an confused voice “So was I …” when Cap says “He’s my friend”.

Interesting. I was Team Iron Man because I simply agree with him. Cap though is shown to have a character arc throughout his trilogy. He started out as a loyal super Soilder and as he experienced more things through Avengers, Winter Soilder and Ultron he came to distrust organizations and that he finally realizes what the job of being a superhero entails. I feel it enhances the film, not hurting it.

  • Deaths - not wanting to spoil anything, so let’s just say I’m not satisfied with the deaths in this movie

Defintely agree here, they had a great opportunity to kill a certain character off and when they backed out I definetly felt like they made a mistake in doing so.

  • the villain. Oh yes, there’s a villain in this movie. Why? I don’t know. He’s the most pointless villain I have ever seen in a movie (ANY movie, not just MCU movies), this is the first time when I think that cutting out the villain out of the movie would actually improve the movie.

I have the very rare opinion that I like the Villain. If he was made any bigger than it would diminish the true conflict which was the civil war between Heroes. So what did they do with the villain? They made him contribute to the civil war in a complex and impactful way motivated by very personal reasons.

Overall a good movie, but not the masterpiece most people call it.

I have minor nitpicks with the film really so everything else shines beatifully. I’d give the film an A-.

Captain America: Civil War is a superhero fight done RIGHT! Every character has clear motivations, they all have a reason to fight. There are clear idealogical differences between the heroes.
The film does have problems, but those are not glaring story or character issues (like some other recent superhero movie I know…). One problem is the nauseating shaky cam and quick-cutting, especially in the opening sequence. Another issue is the ugly, giant subtitles used to specify locations. Most movies may have these at the bottom or corner of the screen, small and out of the way. Civil War has MASSIVE TEXT BLOCKING THE ENTIRE SCREEN!
It is a lot of fun. This may actually be Marvel’s best, I need to think on it for a while.

A

Glad you enjoyed it 😃 The text placement was a little jarring but I felt was nice for the theatre certain times like when it said “Queens” in bold, they signaled the introduction of Spider-Man in bold. The shaky cam was bad at the start, but I feel not as bad as some superhero films (cough cough batman begins). In a fan edit though you could trim small bits that are the worst of the bunch when it comes to shakiness so that you leave the better bits and it doesn’t affect the story.
