Adding a K-2 droid to the background of a scene in the Death Star isn’t at all “adding random nonsense” like Lucas did.
You could say that the battle droid Ady added to the sandcrawler is closer to that kind of tinkering, and even that isn’t the same at all. These small changes can help thread the galaxy together.

+1. I consider this a very good suggestion. Might be hard to pull off but I have quite the faith in Ady.

ROTJ has that horrible music sequence which drives me nuts. It’s a foreshadowing of the cringe-worthy moments in the prequels, me thinks.

I disagree that any scene in ROTJ is “horrible”

What of Ewok story time? That was pretty bad man…

I’m fine with storytime but it turns to absolute lunacy once 3PO says “We are now part of the tribe”.

Darthrush, from what I’ve gathered throughout the history of your posts regarding your religion, you are very clearly uncomfortable with it and don’t belong there. I don’t think you should keep participating. I don’t really have any advice because I understand the difficulty of your situation, especially given the Mormon church’s tendency to ostracize people who leave.

Thank you for the advice moviefreakedmind. I am currently in high school and my dad is the stake president so I am probably going to have to wait until college to leave the church. It’ll be a hell of a ride though when I break the news to them. After skimming the exmormon reddit threads I decided it is best to slowly give clear hints of my issues with the church all done in a respectful and cordial manner. Then it will not be as sudden. I started this strategy by casually saying that I disagree with the churches stance on gay rights. After my dad heard this, he was a little taken aback but since he couldn’t really argue that, nothing got heated. If I take these sort of things one at a time, it’ll make everything easier.

Good on you man, you do what you need to do for you and it sounds like your strategy is solid and respectful. I’m sorry that your questions about the faith aren’t being answered very well, but a lot of times people don’t like questions because they can’t answer them and it makes them question their own faith.

Good luck, you’ve got my support either way!

Batman vs Superman: DOJ thread? (contains spoilers)

With the extended version in place, what do people hate about this movie? I enjoyed it so thoroughly, I can’t understand the extent of the trashing!

Ok, don’t get me wrong, it’s not perfect, but it was pretty dang good, particularly with the added scenes.

When I first saw the film, I thought as you do. However, for a while, one line of dialogue was burned into my mind. It was something Superman said to Lois, “No one stays good in this world.” In this moment, Superman, champion of the world and most beloved hero of mine since I was very young, gives up on humanity. He just. Gives. Up. And declares humans as a waste of his time. After a little while, I realized something else: he already had long before this scene. The very first thing he does on screen is murder someone. Did the victim threaten his girlfriend? Yes, but what should Superman do? Something like this:

But instead, he decides to crush the man’s body through solid walls, giving an eerie smile before he does, as if he derives a sadistic pleasure from killing this man.

Later, Superman is seen saving people from various disasters. When he takes a girl from a fire, he glares menacingly at the crowd around him. He treats every good deed he does, everything that Superman should do, as a chore. There is no heart in it, no humanity, but murder? That is something that Superman apparently can get pleasure from now.

Superman is dead in this movie, but Doomsday didn’t kill him. Superman was already dead. We have, in his place, a coward. We have a brutalistic tyrant in his place.

There’s a comic story where Superman meets some new superhumans that call themselves The Elite. They’re mean, and resort to murder often. However, they quickly become popular among the people for getting the job done. Where Superman has those pesky morals that get in the way of dealing with villains permanently, The Elite are seen as the true heroes for the modern world. Superman, sick of the actions of The Elite, decides to face them, and The Elite set up a fight to the death between them and Supes. It’s off Earth, but The Elite have cameras broadcasting it to the world below. Suddenly, Superman’s not holding back anymore, and eventually all except the leader, Manchester Black, is seemingly dead. Black is terrified, and so are the people of Earth. Superman is a murderer now. Black exclaims that Superman is a hypocrite, and that now the people have seen his lies. Superman then says that he knows that everyone saw it, and they were scared. They saw Superman kill without mercy and were shocked. It is then that Superman reveals that he didn’t kill anyone. The Elite are all alive, knocked out, with broken bones and headaches, but alive.

Black then yells at Superman that he’s living in a foolish dream world. Supes’ reply was this:

Superman. Not a killer, like that movie would have you think, but a hero.

EDIT: If you like the movie, that’s fine. I’m just a geek who reads too many comics.

Very well written post! More and more, I begin to realize the hate for how Superman has been treated in the DCEU. I really enjoyed Man of Steel but am unsure how much I would like it after thinking about what Superman’s character really means. I’m curious what you think of the original Superman film? I haven’t seen it in a while but I’m curious if it still holds up or not.

And it’s true, Poe’s attack is perfunctory, but it feels similar to Rey’s battle with Kylo. Han isn’t chained up somewhere while Kylo twirls his mustache and laughs maniacally, Han is dead. Rey really has no reason to fight Kylo other than he’s a threat that must be dealt with. All she has is vengeance and the will to survive, there is no way to win everything. Both Rey and Poe can only hope for a Pyrrhic victory at this point.

Kylo’s mission is to kidnap Rey and bring her to Snoke. Rey’s fighting to prevent that from happening, and to get Kylo out of the way so she can bring Finn to safety. Unlike Poe, they didn’t go on a mission to fight Kylo or anything, they’re just trying to escape. Han has nothing to do with any of that.

Lightsaber battles are often not much more than good guy is supposed to fight bad guy (especially in the prequels) but this one definitely has a purpose beyond that.

Damn, I just rewatched that lightsaber fight and I really have come to appreciate it more and more. Even the choreography makes me so happy. They aren’t dancing around and just touching each others sabers, it actually feels like a legitimate duel.

And how the hell do you even remotely think i could post a preview pic of how ANH:R HD is going to look when i have stated that i haven’t even started yet? Should i just phone up the Doctor and ask to borrow his TARDIS for a few minutes while i pop into the future and grab a screengrab?

when you get to jedi could you try to do a new hope revisited hd at the same time.

So you want both done in 40 years?

no you sarcastic horse’s ass

The way you speak to people on this site is one of the reasons you get ribbed. Even when people are just poking fun in a lighthearted way, like we do all the time, you respond like this. And it’s also the reason why i would kindly ask you NOT to post any more in ANY of my threads. I’m sick and tired of the way you act, then start the same excuses. There comes a point when it has to be put to a halt. I may not be able to get rid of you here, but consider yourself gone from the facebook page and twitter is likely to follow too, thanks to you constantly cross posting the same comments between all 3 (even copy and pasting the same comment about asking me to do anh at the same time as jedi that you posted here on a post i made about how ill i have been this past week.), so i know which account to block on facebook. There may no longer be an ignore feature on this site, but don’t expect any replies from me about any questions you have about these projects from now on.

Nevermind i just have one last question and please please answer it. Are you considering doing both jedi and a new hope at the same time if you answer this i’ll try not to talk on here anymore.

Disrespecting and ignoring the requests of the OP. Consistently insulting and speaking down to members who began by kindly reminding him to comply with the requests by Adywan to stop posting in the thread.

Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

Humby said:

I think ‘The Last Jedi’ refers to Luke abandoning the conceptual ideals of the Jedi, which is what led to their downfall in the first place (and possibly what led to his failure with Ben and the loss of his students).

Luke will be the Last Jedi because he abandons those ideals when he trains Rey. Rey’s training will embrace both the dark and the light, but only in an attempt to do what is right and just. We saw him sort of embrace that in ROTJ, and maybe that scared him, but after losing all of his students and reexamineing the ideals of past Jedi, he realizes that suppressing the dark side isn’t the best way to go. So he teaches Rey to embrace love, and to accept possesion and attachment as a natural part of life and the force.

So he, in the end, truly is the last Jedi. That would be a good way to both acknowledge the prequels, but also distance itself from them.

But I do think he will at least make it to Episode IX

I would LOVE this!

Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

Great premise, great first 80 minutes or so, but really falls flat during the last act.

The last scene made no sense.

7/10

I completely agree. I have seen this movie many times and every time I convince myself the third act will be better after what is a really fun first two acts but it always just ends up making no sense and losing me.

I enjoyed La La Land. Found it quite charming but I don’t think it quite deserves all of the lavish praise it’s been getting.

This is probably because I went on a Fred Astaire binge a couple years back, but I found La La Land’s execution quite clumsy a lot of the time.

It was a decent effort and I hope it leads to at least a small revival of the genre. Though hopefully they’ll strive to match the artistry and skill of the past in the future.

I’m very curious what you thought wasn’t executed well? I’m really interested in talking about those who didn’t like it as much as I did haha 😉

The only other musical I really love is Singin’ in the Rain. So I guess I mostly like musicals about the movie industry.

Maybe it’s just easier for me to digest the inherent unreal quality of musicals when there’s a meta element involved.

This helped when watching La La Land. It also didn’t have nearly as much singing as some musicals where literally every piece of dialogue is sung. La La Land just has amazingly cinematic, romantic and purely magical musical numbers sprinkled throughout that visualize the feelings and emotions of the characters. That’s why I’m able to appreciate the movie so much. I am surprised however that “Audition” is the song nominated by the oscars, but that “City of Stars” was the song nominated by the Golden Globes. I gotta agree with the Golden Globes for once actually haha.

They nominated both, actually, and City of Stars will likely win.

Didn’t realize that, oops! Well, that does sound awesome 😃
