I concur. Much better than the “amazing” reboot from a few years ago. Totally don’t get the hate for toby as Peter Parker. I thought both of those movies were very well done.

I disagree. Garfield was far better than Toby for me. The first of the Amazing reboots was quite good. The only one from the Raimi trilogy that impressed me all that much was the second. Never understand the mass amount of love for the first one. I still think it is a pretty mediocre flick.

That’s interesting. In spite of the Protestant idea that everyone discovers their own religion, it usually passes down through families, and so religion usually has an ethnicity component. Denying religion can mean, in part, denying your ancestry.

I know lots of people who don’t believe in God. But, if asked, what religion are they? Catholic. Jewish. Southern Baptist. One’s even a minister. Because, to them, religion is more than just a belief in God. It’s an identity, it’s a community. And it’s a set of values and beliefs that are perhaps surprisingly unrelated to the existence of any deity. They see no reason to abandon all that just because they don’t believe in God. And, if they did, which community would they be trading their friends and family for? Dawkins? Yeah, thanks but no thanks.

I can see why the phrasing and format of the questionnaire could lead to wildly different conclusions.

I am curious what the atheist perception is regarding bigoted treatment. I mean, sure, there may be sociological structural difficulties, but actual, in-person bigotry…I just don’t see it being like racism, particularly among African-Americans, where racism has not only been institutionalized, but also was blatant and in your face.

I truly appreciate your disdain for Dawkins, because to me he represents the exact opposite problem: anti-religious bigotry and snobbery. I can only imagine atheism growing in our nation and the world, and when it supersedes adherents in numbers, I believe that the bigotry from that side will become a bigger problem. It’s simply the fact that atheism is a minority at present that the Richard Dawkinses and Bill Nyes of the world are allowed to act as they do without repercussion. I appreciate that there are many respectful atheists/agnostics, such as yourself, who do not see a need to be holier (what’s the atheist eqivalent–skepticaler?)-than-thou while maintaining their stance.

While there is an appeal of religion to the under-educated and an appeal of atheism to the educated, there are really many very intelligent people who still believe in God (and many uneducated atheists as well).

Dawkins drives me insane. He is just so damn cocky about the fact that “he is right and every religious person is a witless prick”. I technically do agree with him that I do not think that God exists but the way he goes about flaunting that opinion is just disgraceful. Probably my favorite atheist is Sam Harris. Well spoken, respectful but very logical and precise in his arguments.

Jetrell Fo got banned again! I’m not sure what he did, but I’m not going to lie, I am appreciative.

I’m not gonna take sides or anything but if this means the end of all of the stupid drama that filled the entire forum then I am sure happy. It literally felt like everywhere I turned, all I could see was the same ol Frink V Fo battle. But I do agree with you ender that this does feel like quite the relief.

Just finished Schindler’s List.

It might be early to say it, but this might be one of the best films I have ever seen. Easily my favorite of Spielbergs. The character arc was just beautiful. The acting was outstanding. The direction by Spielberg was impeccable. The music was beyond moving. This was very hard to get through but I’m glad I made the journey. I might even say I enjoyed it more than Its A Wonderful Life. I think that so far, I like this the most from the top 100 of the AFI. Damn, it was truly moving.

You guys are operating under the assumption that Marvel digitally replaces their heads.

The process is actually more like a moving photoshop job where they’re manipulating the actor’s actual faces instead of creating digital doubles.

Here’s an example.

This process just wasn’t possible for Rogue One because the key actor is deceased. As for Carrie, how to put this delicately, she would not have been able to double for her 19 year old self.

Great breakdown. The complaints against Rogue One are illogical and simply is a matter of apples and oranges.

Continuing with my plan of watching every film on the AFI top 100, I watched Casablanca for the first time.

I must say that I was quite tired when viewing so hopefully it did not hinder my judgement too much.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. Great acting, witty dialogue, a good character arc. I just felt that I did not connect with the romance all that much. The flashback sold me on the romance and I genuinely felt really bad for Rick and what he had to go through, but once they reconnected, they fell back in love all to quickly and made the ending not feel as emotional. But I still appreciated the ending more for the fact that Rick decided to finally fight for a greater cause. That was an arc that felt earned.

In the end, I liked It’s A Wonderful Life A LOT more and I think films like La La Land fleshed out a romance far better which paid off more in the end, but I still appreciated this. Onto the Godfather Part Two and 12 Angry Men! As you can tell, I am not really moving through the AFI Top 100 in numerical order.

I’m no longer a Republican, but still identify as conservative. While there is no doubt that Republicans are generally less educated than Democrats, there seems to be an overly-simplistic assumption on the part of many liberals that Republicans are, by and large, a bunch of dumb hicks. More generally, there is a consensus that, by virtue of having more education, liberals are automatically right about all policies where the two sides of the spectrum differ. I even saw an inspiring comment from a liberal here saying that liberals should not be so condescending to conservatives, yet still acknowledging that liberalism is always right.

The above article actually demonstrates that Republicans are more likely to know where North Korea is and favor less militaristic solutions to the complex situation there. Also associated with these items was higher education. My point to this is that there are intelligent, level-headed people on the Right. Yes, we’ve got a large basket of Trump-voting nutjobs who refuse to see anything he says or does as bad, but we also have people who are well educated and favor diplomacy. Don’t overgeneralize.

I tend to agree with you on the matter of now referring to myself as more of an conservative rather than a republican. But then again I still do have a fair share of ideals/beliefs that wouldn’t be considered conservative since I support the legalization of gay marriage, marijuana, among a few other things. However I am primarily a fiscal conservative.

This is the issue with the two party system. It forces every individual to choose a side when in reality, each of us has our own set of complex ideals, opinions, and morals. We should treat someone as an individual rather than a Democrat or a Republican.

The Godfather

A hell of a movie. I was thoroughly impressed. The acting, the dialogue, it all just was the perfect blend to show a characters slow transformation into a person devoid of any empathy or love of any kind. It’s almost haunting to watch the last 10 minutes. Beautiful cinema though. I cannot wait to check out the second one in the next few days.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

I had actually pretty low expectations. I didn’t know where they could take the story and the characters. Some reviews spoke of a spineless plot and other issues. But god damn was I wrong. I was thoroughly pleased by the end of the showtime. The character development in this was absolutely amazing. I was astounded at how well each character was served by the story. It hands down is the funniest marvel movie to date. Some of the jokes were hit or miss, but emphasis on some. I did have some issues with the plot but overall I thought this was a good fun ride!

Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl

I was pretty excited for this seemingly quirky, coming of age film and am surprised I didn’t catch it earlier. The first half of this movie is actually pretty lighthearted and it had me dying of laughter. The humor was spot on and I was taken aback by how funny the movie had been. Then things started going to shit and there were some pretty powerful scenes for me. The characters were interesting and well written. The screenplay was raw, emotional, and deeply affecting. I was a little underwhelmed by the ending, but overall, a good flick.

I don’t think Trump is unintelligent. But he is most certainly incompetent at being President. Look no further than the Muslim ban rollout, the healthcare vote (granted that’s more Ryan’s fault but Trump had a hand in it), the constant undercutting of his own people’s statements which destroys all of their credibility, or the way he keeps making the Russia story worse (the Comey firing is just the latest example).

The only thing he’s done properly are things that I could have done if I were so inclined - signing executive orders to get rid of Obama executive orders, and nominating a Supreme Court judge that was guaranteed to get through because the Senate got rid of the filibuster. Big deal.

All of his difficulties are unforced errors that make governing more difficult. He’s incompetent at doing the job he was elected for.

Exactly on point. Trump has a hard time getting stuff done like the examples you laid out. Trump just makes careless mistakes and fails to articulate his points in a successful manner. That’s one thing I’ll give to Obama, (I don’t particulary think he is as amazing as some make him out to be) which is that he was a master at articulating his points in an effective and professional manner. He was a well spoken individual unlike Trump. Which could have been seen as an advantage in the election since many loved the more “raw” approach I guess.

I think Vladius’ post above has pretty well summed up my feelings on the Edit too.

Whilst admiring the time, effort and commitment gone into the project - with some quality technical work too - I felt that the characterisations and backstory of the main cast withdrew from enjoying the Edit or feeling for their sacrifice for the cause. I actually think Cassian’s speech on Yavin IV may have been better left in - as it gives back the ‘grey’ of the Rebellion, that these people had led their lives for the Rebellion (or against the Empire), had committed the type of crimes that made them lose their humanity - but did so for a greater good etc; it gave us the viewer something to get behind emotionally and root for (in addition of the good guy vs bad guy aspect).

Though, I too liked the subtle changes to Jyn’s lines - making her more of the leader of the group.

And the Crawl was great too - very professional, like most of the Edit itself 😃

Great work.

Well I’m having to start over again. I’ve been using womble to do the editing, but I’m going to have to leave it behind. I hate to do that because I love wombles extremely user friendly interface and I was able to make the seamless cuts I needed… Theoretically. The reason I’m giving up on it is because no matter what I do there is a very audible “pop” at cut points. It’s infuriating. Even if the fades and everything are set up to be seamless there’s still a big pop in the middle of the transition and while it doesn’t happen all the time when it does happen nothing I do will fix it. I hate it because I love wombles interface. So unless anybody knows a fix for that, I’m trying to get the hang of Adobe premiere. It’s a whole different world and I’m still trying to get the hang of it.

Good for you! I started with Wondershare (a piece of shit) cause of how easy it was (this was years back), then I realized it wasn’t good enough so I went to PowerDirector (less of a piece of shit), and then eventually I switched to Premiere and am so glad for doing so. You will definitely get the hang of it and it is well worth the time.

I do think I’m going to release a 2.0 version, so to speak. The current version is only in stereo and is also at a lower compression rate. So having a high-quality 5.1 version would be nice for viewers.

I’d also like to try matching Vader’s dubbed lines a bit better, along with some other comments and feedback I’ve received.

To your point ben_danger on making further music changes, especially the sequence with Jyn’s death…I’m not sure there is a suitable Williams track that could fit that. It’s a pretty long piece (starting from the Star Destroyers crashing into the gate up until Vader’s shuttle approaching the Rebel flagship) and has varying tone and emotion to it. And out of all the cues from Rogue One, I think it was probably Giacchino’s best. I dunno, maybe I’ll look at some of the Episode III cues and see if something might work…

I agree that the final piece playing during Jyn’s death is the best piece in the original film score and I was beyond happy that you decided to keep it.

If you go back several pages you can find a post about me meeting a really nice girl at a camp I went to. It’s long and I don’t feel like quoting it. Anyway, we’ve been texting each other for a few weeks now and a couple nights ago she admitted that she really likes me. It shook me up a bit… a lot. We live about two hours apart, but she seems interested in a long distance relationship, but do those ever work out? Are those “real?” This is all very new to me.

Okay, end of childish nonsense post.

CatBus summed it up nicely, yeah, they are real.

Speaking as someone who has been in a couple of long distance relationships, I will say they can be trying. Both had a sort of “doomed from the start” sense to them but what’s ultimately important is that I don’t regret either of them. Yeah, they both ran their course eventually - one only a few months and the other much longer (and would have lasted even longer than that if it had been up to me) - but most relationships do.

Especially at your age, you shouldn’t be worried about whether a relationship will really “work out.” What’s most important isn’t if you think the relationship will ultimately end (as all do, in one way or another), it’s whether you think you’d want to be in that relationship at all. For how long doesn’t matter, it could last a day or it could last forever, point is that’s something you can’t know until you start. Right now, it’s really as simple as do you like her? and do you want to be in a relationship with her?

This is where CatBus’s other point comes in. You shouldn’t feel like you have to date a girl to prove you’re not gay. But you also shouldn’t feel like you can’t date a girl because you also like guys. Point being, don’t worry about gay, straight, don’t worry about how people perceive you, focus on your feelings - do you like the girl and would you want to be in a relationship with her? A simple question, and your answer (and only yours) will tell you everything you need to know.

This is perfect advice.
