also if you can’t tell I modified the tfa scene by removing some shots. I’ve muted the audio and just used the Jedi steps score.

I can help build in some sound effects and help with the audio but we might differ in the specifics of how we handle it. Cause personally I want to somehow fit in the music that happens when Luke accepts the saber in the original cut of TLJ. It’s quite good and lines up well.

That is all.

haaaaa

Aye, not bad for someone with ‘obvious double standards’ for posting an article in which the quality or of it was not mentioned/commented upon at all - and one you seeming haven’t read yet going on ‘From Dre’s cited text, looks like an god awful, elitist article’.

Dre cited quite a bit.

shit article tho

I just find it funny that I’ve seen ooJason comment so much on others links to articles that he found to be “unproductive” and of “poor value”. I recall him even doing that specifically to Dre and then he goes and posts this terrible article.

From Dre’s cited text, looks like an god awful, elitist article. Why not just respect that someone didn’t like a movie that you did AND that their opinion is equal to yours? Screw modern internet fandom. And I’m not saying it’s a one way thing. I’ve talked to critics of TLJ who called me an idiot and how I misunderstand Luke as a character if I liked the movie. So I’m not making a jab at one side (which technically would be my side), I just think from what Dre cited, that your reading some toxic crap authored by someone who think their dissecting some issue with people who don’t like the movie.

EDIT: And I gotta say oojason, for commenting so often on the “value” of the article/video that a poster links to, you obviously have a double standard.

Since I will also have to do a merge of these two scenes, this is of great interest to me!

So far it’s looking pretty good! I’d suggest showing Rey somehow walking further up to Luke before she pulls out the saber to fix the sudden jump of distance. I’m impressed by a lot of the color work you’ve done to try and match the footage. Needs some fine tuning but looks quite good!

Reading about The Fallen Knight

Cut Canto Bight completely, and then cut Rey / Kylo / Luke stuff?

Jeez… the point of cutting Canto Bight is to focus on their story, not shorten it.

That’s one edit I’m gonna skip

I loved it when I first saw it, but the more I thought about it the more continuity errors and other issues I noticed. Holdo and Rose appear out of nowhere and Finn is only in the first and last 15 minutes of the entire film. The scene of Poe getting demoted is intact yet feels jarring as Poe’s entire arc is otherwise cut. I’m also baffled as to why it didn’t cut things like the ridiculous telegraphing of Snoke’s death and the Chewie eating a porg. It felt rushed and more of a template for future, more in depth edits. I still enjoyed parts of it and the inclusion of the deleted scenes was really well implemented.

That’s the reason it’s probabaly best to not cut things essential to the development of a main character like Finn. By trimming down Canto Bight and maintaining the core elements, the plot still actually holds together in a logical manner and you also have a tighter film.

Just my take on fan editing the film but I can see the appeal of just axeing something completely if you don’t like it.

I still don’t know why that makes TLJ better than RotJ in any way. Luke and Vader were the only characters that still had something worthwhile to do character wise because Han and Leia’s character arcs were done and they decided to take the safety route with them while going very risky with Vader and the Emperor. Apparently you think that that makes TLJ superior to RotJ. Ok, good. Am I correct? Is there more to it?

The problem was that they apparently decided Han an Leia’s stories were done already, which is silly, they easily could’ve given them more interesting things to do. I also fail to see what is risky about the Vader/Emperor plot, though I also don’t exactly understand using the word risky in relation to quality.

Anyway, yes, across the board characterization in TLJ is better than ROTJ, which in turn makes the film itself better.

Though I think TLJ has similar problems of having subplots that feel tacked on, just like ROTJ, I still like it much more than ROTJ which has aged so poorly. Even some of the Luke-Vader stuff doesn’t hold up whereas the good stuff of the Last Jedi was just so good for me and also took more risks than ROTJ.

Under the Skin

Masterpiece.

I don’t know if I’d call it a masterpiece, but it was certainly unique. I thought it succeeded in showing a view of our world from the perspective of a complete outsider. Probably one of those movies I’ll never watch again but I’m glad I did.

Interesting. I’m already ready to watch it again to soak everything up better this time around but I definitely agree it’s very unique and not for everyone. I just wish more people could have seen it.

I will work on the timing in the Hux section and try having the music finish when we cut to Hux but I don’t follow the hand reaching out moment your talking about.

At 1:35, Kylo reaches out but the music swells a few seconds later.

Oh, I like how it swells with him stepping forward and then a close up of his hand. Like TK-422 I feel it works but I will be testing around with various options to improve the sequence. I wholeheartedly agree that the music doesn’t work when we return to Hux and will work to fix it.

I am hoping to either re-purpose Finn’s last speeder run into him crashing right before he reaches the cannon or just getting rid of it all together. I’ll put up a concept clip soon so people can get the idea. Basically he would be closing in on it, then just as he got close, you see the speeder shake, his stabilizer stick thingy come off the ground, the ship turns wayside and then he crashes. I’d have to rescore it as well.

Could it be that Finn’s speeder gets shot? Like as in he is planning on sacrificing himself only to have one of the First Order walkers shoot him before he has the opportunity. Might be more realistic than just him crashing.

This is a nice idea but I’m not sure how it could be executed.

Hmm. I would need to watch the scene again. I’m wondering if you could reuse a shot of the walkers firing combined with one of the shots of the other speeders getting hit. There’s plenty of examples in that sequence of the speeders getting picked off. Wondering if you could cut part of it in time it with Rose hitting Finn’s speeder.

This is actually a great idea! I’ll write this down for when I get to that sequence later in the process 😃

I liked the music choice but the timing was off for the swelling music and the emotion of the scene. The two beats that need to be readjusted are Kylo’s hand reaching out and the end of the song happening when Hux gives the order to finish the Resistance.

The music works really well! However, it does feel very abrupt. I’d start it right when Rey begs Ben to let the fleet escape.

This would be difficult to do since it would maybe change the timing but I’ll keep this in mind though and see if others feel the same way. I personally like how the track starts as Kylo declares what he truly desires. Maybe just fading it in a tad more? Thanks for the suggestion!

I present the first rescored scene in the edit. This is the scene of Kylo pleading for Rey to join him. The track I chose to rescore the scene with is the second half of “Anakin’s Dark Deeds” (non-orchestral section) from the episode three soundtrack.

I love the emotion that it adds and I feel it fits perfectly. Tell me what you all think!

While I agree with a lot of people’s issues with Maz’s cameo in TLJ and can understand people who would want to remove it altogether, I wanted to suggest a lighter trimming of that scene for those who would rather make smaller changes throughout.

First, if one were to remove the trade dispute reference, you could try to infer that she is fighting the First Order on another planet. It might help get the idea across that there is fighting going on across the galaxy. Maybe some additional sound effects could help with this.

Second, I also wonder if cutting Maz saying that she could do it herself would raise the stakes a little because then only the Master Codebreaker would be good enough to do it.

So, something like, “Can I do it? I can’t do it, but lucky for you, there is exactly one guy I trust who can crack that kind of security.” or “Can I do it? Of course I can do it! But I can’t do it, I’m a little tied down right now. But lucky for you…”

I’m not saying these changes would make it better. But the scene always felt a little off to me, and I wonder if something like one of these ideas could help with the scene a little. Just some thoughts.

I thought the scene had to stay for just making sense of the plot but I cut out the sexual joke of her saying “He can do everythingggg…”

Wow…quite the night for movies. I still can’t decide which I enjoyed more.

Children of Men - Emotional, touching, and just so affecting.

Fargo - Another brilliant Coen brothers film that is smart, engaging, and just a great piece of cinema. Not quite as good as No Country but right up there with Big Lebowski. Really loving their work so far and don’t know what I should check out next from them.
