Who is Ignoring You, and Who are You Ignoring? (was: Who is Ignoring You? (was: Hello all, I'm back!))
Time

For the most part, I agree with you, Tryphanax.  However, I feel that for the sake of the peace, I had to ignore someone.  It's for the greater good.  I do wish that Angel would remove that image in his sig, as I love to read his comments, but am always embarrassed at the bottom and try to keep the screen scrolled where I cannot see the pic.

I really liked part 1, and part 2 was okay (it went a little further than I've gotten in the book and seems to have been less faithful in its interpretation there).  If you feel part 3 is good, I'll go ahead and watch it.

I'm just joking about the European nudity thing.  It's true, those Euro-folks aren't quite so shy about their naked bods.  My family spent some time in Germany from before I was born up till I was 2.  My dad jokes that every time Germans saw a puddle they'd strip down to bare flesh and splash in the water.  It all reminds me of an episode of the Simpsons where Lisa goes to Stockholm to accept a Nobel Prize (if I'm remembering correctly), and the opening shot establishing the location shows the backside of a nude female police officer directing traffic.  Made me laugh.  Makes me chuckle even now.  I think you are right that movie companies think that nudity enhances the experience, and the public is becoming more and more convinced of the same.  How many movies that are otherwise worthless all of the sudden become "artistic" because it shows some very sexually provocative imagery?

Decided to begin watching Dune (2000 miniseries).  It's strange and glosses over so much from the novel so far, but what can you do  with such a complicated novel when converting it to a visual medium anyhow?  My wife likes it so far.

I quite like the 2000 mini.  There's a "long cut" of it that I think is substantially better and also introduces some european style nudity, which I'm sure your wife would approve of as much as mine did (which is to say not at all).

Bingowings said:

The Children Of Dune miniseries is much better (it covers the next two books so doesn't have comparison with the Lynch film hanging over it as a second sword of Damocles).

But I firmly disagree with this.  I thought that mini was a mess.  I've never read the sequel books, so it might not be the mini's fault... but it seems to have no idea where it's going until it's just over.  And I was always into Dune for Paul, so I guess I stopped caring once he exited stage left.  Maybe I should have read Paul of Dune, but it is written by that darn KJA.

So I finally go the chance to watch part II, and it is the extended version.  You're correct, there is some European-style nudity (as opposed to Asian, South American, or Oceanian-style nudity, I mean, how many ways can you show one's privates?).  I was truthfully disappointed with all of that, and it seemed to advance the plot very little.  If they'd spent more time telling the story of Dune and less flaunting bodies, it might have been interesting, but now I'm pretty turned off and not sure I want to finish it.

The "Goodnight" Thread
Time

TheBoost, I just want you to know that given my current preoccupation with Dune, I really enjoyed that cute little post.

...Okay, folks, here's the deal.  I've got a lot of homework to do, and you boneheads are far too distracting.  What I need from you is some good old castigation!  I am signing off for the night.  If you catch me on here before tomorrow (that means posting, online, writing PMs, whatever), then I want you to tell me to go away.  Maybe I could get probation or purgatory or the seventh circle of heck or something.  Just don't let me come back for any reason until tomorrow.  Thanks.  Have a good evening.

What's your Personal Canon?

Am i the only one who liked the Shadows of the Empire N64 game?

Not that i would add it to me personal canon.

I also did not care much for Dash Rendar ripoff of Han, or his outrider ripoff of the falcon.

But i liked the hoth level.  The train level against ig 88, the battle with fett etc.

I really did not appreciate the added shadows of the empire CGI to star wars in 1997 however like the cgi bike lifted straight from the same files used in the game.

I read the book but never played the game. You forgot to mention that the Outrider and the ASP droids also made it into the SE.

I don't care for Dash either. Instead of creating that copy cat they should have opted for utilizing an already existing character, namely Kyle Katarn. He's perfect for that role being a mercenary working for the rebellion and already had a cool sidekick and ship.

I couldn't agree more.  So we get an antihero Han ripoff, only he's younger, cockier, more self-serving, fliesa newer Corellian ship that's almost as fast as the Falcon and looks very similar, and finds his redemption at the end of the story.  I know Perry wanted someone to fill Han's big shoes while he was stuck in that slab, but that was pretty lame.  Nevertheless, the story was decent, and it's nice to have a little filler between the two films.

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place
Time

Know what I hate?  I hate racism.  But you know what else I hate?  I hate the fact that folks look for every opportunity to accuse conservatives of racism that they can.  Nevermind that Lincoln was a Republican.  Nevermind that the KKK was started by Democrats.  Nevermind that conservatives teach that all people are created equal.  Nevermind that Michael Steele and was elected to be chair of the RNC.  Nevermind that two other prominent black men have recently run for Republican presidential tickets (Alan Keyes and Herman Cain).  Nevermind that so many conservatives actually go out of their way to avoid any hint of being perceived as racist, while liberals are not shy at all about their racism (not only blaming everything on whites, but even speaking negatively about black conservatives, such as Herman Cain and Alveda King.

I understand that racism is an ongoing problem.  But its use as ammunition to discredit anything said by a conservative is actually perpetuating what divides the races rather than unifying.  People who spend time together learn to get along, even if they originally had misgivings.  But when one side is victimized, they feel animosity towards the other.  Then the other side feels it is victimized by being stereotyped as such, and they feel angst towards the first group.  It's a perpetuating cycle, and it's brought on by the overused race card.  When we stop caring so much about what literally is little more than a minor genetic difference, then racism will finally begin to diminish.

This Thread Is Currently About...Bingo and/or Wings!!!
Time

I think you're right.  I figured it out after the fact.  That's what I get for being too lazy to read the rules in the first place.  But I figured I'd throw in a bit of humor to try and get out quickly.  I doubt it was funny enough, but we'll see.  Anyway, my real big question is how could a guy who I assume actually communicates with real people now and then have time to post in all these threads and create so many games and enforce these silly but fun rules?

Okay, I'll read the rules, but I thought cybernetic eyepatches were still legal.

EDIT: Reading through the rules, I don't remember ever being put on probation. I guess my quoting myself and you and including my own picture got me in trouble, but was my offense serious enough for the Hall of Shame?  Can I call my attorney?  Can I speak to the judge?

And I thought you were agnostic.  You believe in Purgatory?

It's only a derailment if you want it to be.

If you ignore the the GIFs and keep talking about Bee keeping, humane alternatives to insect extermination etc some people possibly will respond, others may respond to the GIFs.

We have this sort of thing happen outside the Off Topic board were you get a few humour based posts and people have a giggle then the pick up the subject again.

It hardly ever becomes a terminal issue unless the subject has truly run it's course or another thread covers the same ground with greater efficiency.

Yup, that's just the nature of the BEEst.  If I'm interested in the thread, I ignore the stinging humor and tune my antennae to the on-topic posts.  I'm sorry if the gifs may give you the hives, but that really isn't any of my beeswax.

I must agree, honey.  Telling folks to buzz off because their humor gives you itches is a bit extreme and could send folks flying.  Sometimes a little intermittent humor breaks up the drone of the conversation.  No one needs to try to be queen bee and tell the swarms what to do.  I just find such behavior a-pollen!

Still trying to solve the mystery of why xhonzi is ignoring me.

So what about it, Xhonzi?  I'm calling you out.  Why are you ignoring Nicola Tesla?

Yeah, why you gotta play a brotha like that? Don't make me come over there.

Oh man, sorry.  Didn't realize this had become a thing.  I wasn't trying to make it a thing, so I didn't bring it up.  Probably best to explain it now to keep it from being a big deal.

It comes down to two things.

1. Obnoxious picture in signature.  (same as Angel)

2. Call me an agist, but I can't stand a kid a few years older than my son cursing like a sailor.  I'm also not terribly interested in reading his comments on movies I would be horrified to find my own son watching at that age.

Sorry- not trying to be a jerk about it.  Just trying to enjoy my ot.com.  I wasn't trying to make a statement to Mr. Stardust.

I was not trying to actually be a punk and understand your reasoning.  Makes sense to me.  But I think Zig is a nice fellow so I've never gone that far.
