Your Friendly Guide on Belittling Your Neighbor's Beliefs (pamphlet for distribution is pending)
Time

I can honestly say that I would provide you with that defense.  I know that Obama is not a Muslim, but even if he were, I would not support him less (that might sound trivial, given I don't support him much, but that lack of support is based on policies, not his supposed religious views--I'm actually impressed with his anti-terrorism success).  If I were convinced that someone had my country's best interests at heart, I would support him insofar as I agreed with his (or her, of course) policies.  This tolerance for other faiths probably is the result of the bigotry that this poor bitter white guy has been subjected to as a Mormon.  I've seen more than Walkinggenitourinaryorgan would care to admit.  So I agree with Romney, attacks on religion (or lack) should be off the table, though I too understand that in practice such is not the case.

This thread bores the hell out of me.

Know what's funny?  I get pretty bored even thinking about YouTube movie reviews made by 13 year-olds.  Want to know my solution?  I don't click on the thread.  And if I ever do again, I don't think I'll tell anyone how boring the thought is to me.

Christians are the large majority in this country, how can you act like the whole world is against you?

Your initial post reminds me of bitter white guys during the civil rights movement who bitched about how nobody is allowed to talk shit about blacks. I can just see you now, "Oh I see, some black guys get hosed down and now they are protected by liberals!"

I wish I would have seen your initial post before, so I wouldn't have wasted so much time replying to your bullshit in the Politics THREAD.

JESUS CHRIST, BUDDY!

@Mr. Sensitive

First, as was pointed out in the politics thread, Mormons are not considered Christian by a large percentage of Christianity.  Romney is a Mormon.  I am a Mormon.  In this regard, I'm part of a minority, and I'm not too fond of people criticizing my religion.

Second, I don't remember saying the whole world was against me or my religion.  I just pointed out a particular instance of bigotry, one that does not represent everyone, or every Christian, or even every evangelical Christian.  It represents a sizable group, however, so don't discount that.  But the point of this thread has nothing to do with majorities and minorities, but rather the inappropriateness of belittling anyone's faith, not whom we can and cannot criticize under the stupid liberal laws of political correctness (did you really even read it: I think I talk about much more than just Mormonism).

Third, even if we consider Mormonism under the greater umbrella of Christianity, is it really okay to be bigoted towards a majority?  Why is that acceptable?  I think we had this discussion before; it's wrong to belittle someone else's faith.

Fourth, since you are not religious at all, would you mind having the decency to respect my faith and not use Jesus Christ's name so disrespectfully?

Fifth, your comparison to bitter whites is a very popular (and idiotic) liberal tactic that has nothing to do with what I'm talking about, but is instead an attempt to equate any self-defense to racism.  Wow, that's never been done by the left.  Everything has to be about bitter white folks with you guys.  You're obsessed with finding racism where it doesn't exist!

Sixth, don't waste your time replying to this or any comment I write.  I promise that somehow I won't let my feelings get hurt.  You seem remarkably narrow-minded for an "open-minded liberal atheist," and your comments have consistently rubbed me the wrong way.  So please, as a walking phallus, keep your urethra shut and keep your pissy comments to yourself.

Star Wars: Renascent *** NOW AVAILABLE!!! ***
Time

I'm really excited to watch this.  I got it downloaded, but bought crappy Kodak DVD-DLs which do not burn properly 9 times out of 10.  I tried DVD shrink, but the result was too low quality that I didn't watch more than three minutes because I don't want to spoil the movie.  I'm attempting a third DL burn and hopefully will find success!  I know how to mount and watch it on the computer, but I'd rather use my television instead of my dinky monitor and crappy speakers.  Looking forward to it, and will let you know what I think.  I'm confident you've done something amazing.

Here it comes: Mormons are part of a grand cult.  Don't vote for anyone who does not interpret Jesus the same way you do.

Of course, you'd be surprised how many different understandings of the nature of Jesus of Nazareth throughout history and perpetuated even today.  This Wikipedia article doesn't fully address the modern situation, but my experience has shown that understanding exactly who Jesus is can vary from person to person, even within the same congregation.

Take the twooffour Pledge (Pledge is Suspended - See Post #121) (At one time thread was about DOGS WEARING HATS)

Truly heartbreaking.  It probably has something to do with the rest of us just being able to withstand his withering logic and arguments.

Funny thing is I was in an intense discussion in politics recently, and I started to feel a bit like I was pulling a twooffour there, responding to every attempted point with lengthy, drawn out rebuttals filled with hyperlinks.  Of course I feel I was much more respectful, but upon this realization, I quickly changed my tone.  "Once you start down the dark path...."  I guess I had one of those Dark Side Cave moments there :)

Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist
Time

Just put this in the OT deleted scenes discussion thread, but I want to include it hear, though it repeats an idea I'd already mentioned here before.

 The esteemed darth_ender said:

I've mentioned this in the ROTJ wishlist thread, but perhaps the Ewok attack could take place, the Rebels manage to push ahead into the bunker (it wouldn't be too hard to make Han look like he successfully hotwires the door), while the Ewoks distract Imperial troops.  Footage from Battle for Endor could show more Ewok deaths.  The Rebel commando team gets into the bunker, has their shootout, places their charges while the battle continues to rage outside.  The generator control room is destroyed, and perhaps even small explosions shown on the dish signify it no longer works, though it wouldn't be as dramatic.  Then the space battle continues with, "The shield is down!"  My only question is how could you show the commandos escaping?  Hmmm...maybe Han could still charge out of the bunker yelling, "Move!" with added laser fire going on behind him.  After the generator blows (keep the whole big explosion in this scenario), one might see several storm troopers get caught in the blast, then show several scenes that were before removed of stormtroopers fleeing and being further ambushed by the Ewoks, and Chewie hijacks the AT-ST and begins his rampage.  This might be hard to pull off as far as the emotional flow, but some good music changes might alter the lightheated fun feeling of beating the stormtroopers over the head with little rocks.  It's far more believable to see Imperial troops being defeated when they are disorganized and panicked due to the loss of their shield generator.

Pardon the realtime brainstorming/typing.  It seems like a worthy idea, and it incorporates and in fact heavily relies on the deleted bunker scene, so it still fits okay in this thread.

To expand upon the idea, and also repeating something I had mentioned before in this thread, showing the various Rebel pilots and Falcon gunners would expand the battle nicely (probably needing a few more ship shots, but I understand Adywan has plans for this, though that might take some waiting).  With the expanded space battle, further attention could be taken off the Ewoks and leave more to the imagination about the struggle going on at the Battle of Shield Bunker Hill.  The audience would surmise more death and carnage has taken place and more good guys fell by the way side.  Besides, who wouldn't want to see a grander space battle?  It seems many are disappointed that the final version simply wasn't big enough.

It kind of kills me how little effort they put into cleaning these up.
This is just two shots, but I threw this together in about 2 hours.
Imagine how much better it could look if they threw in half the effort with George's resources.

I apologize for not noticing this thread earlier. I'm a newbie to this forum.

You might be interested in my own effort towards a clean-up of the deleted scenes:

MagnoliaFan, would you be interested in describing your method of clean-up in that thread?

I really hope a collaborative effort is put into this.  I would be thrilled to see these scenes fixed up and able to be introduced into various creative edits.  No need to continuously reinvent the wheel.

As for the bunker scene, I think that you could easily intersperse much of the action that take place in the bunker with other shots, giving the impression of a larger building and a more time-consuming break-in.  One might be able to put several of those shots after Han bluffs his way into the bunker a second time, and thus leave the Rebels with an ongoing challenge to get their charges placed and the generator destroyed.

OR...

Clean-up and restoration of deleted scenes (* unfinished project *)
Time

Bump.  I really hope this keeps going.  This is a worthwhile endeavor, and those willing to devote the time to fixing the deleted scenes will really be of great assistance to a multitude of faneditors.  I can just imagine how the collaborative efforts of various talented editors could really fix these scenes up, with someone perhaps willing to add generic special effects for all to use, and someone else (Cutter, likely) even scoring the scenes.  It's just amazing what a bunch of you talented folks can do.

Unfortunately, all I can provide is "talented" critiques :)  Good luck!

What are you reading?
Time

I wanted to share my thoughts on a couple of recently finished books.

Dune - Finally finished this.  I can't read as much lately due to my far busier schedule.  I really enjoyed most of it, but was disappointed with a couple of parts.  The rich culture Mr. Herbert can create is very fascinating, and I really found much of the supernatural elements of it to be interesting and believable (such as the Bene Gesserit mastery over their autonomic nervous system, etc.  The concept of a feudal empire in the distant future is quite fascinating to me, and the complications resulting from the political tripod.  It all worked well.  However, what I didn't like was the excessive prescient abilities given by the melange (it made Paul seem less unique in his abilities), the particular telepathic abilities of the water of life, the passing of knowledge from reverend mother to reverend mother, the subsequent changing of the toxic nature of the water of life (seems outside the realm of believability, given the type of universe you feel was already set up and the suspension of disbelief you've already established).  The subsequent Fremen group orgy because of their partaking of the water of life was just weird to me.  Finally, I found the ending disappointing.  I know it was a setup for sequels, but I'm already hesitant to read the sequels, as I've heard they are far inferior.  Paul seems to lose his likable traits and merely becomes an arrogant punk.  I won't spoil too much for those who have not read it, but I simply found the ending to be a letdown, and I can overlook probably every other gripe except that, especially given my hesitancy to continue in the series.

The Silver Chair - I got around to finishing the fourth book in the Chronicles of Narnia.  I was nervous about this one because we lost all the Pevensys as protagonists, and now had to rely on "Scrubb" and "Pole."  I actually liked this book quite a lot, and really enjoyed their, uh, optimistic travel companion, Puddleglum.  That character really added a lot of charm to the story.

I began The Horse and His Boy, but I really felt like jumping to a different series again, so I will finish it later.

I am currently rereading The Hobbit in anticipation of the upcoming movie.  This is a very enjoyable story, but I know I don't have to say much about it to anyone else.  I look forward to reading The Lord of the Rings, which I must confess I've never actually read the trilogy.  I will definitely do it this time.
