Blame George!
Time

I am currently studying psychiatric medications in my pharmacology class.  It makes me think of how many poor people in this world lost hope in humanity when George Lucas took a fantastic product and replaced it with the Star Wars we have today.  Do you all realize how antidepressants have been on the rise since 1997?  It's clearly because of George.

I wish I could say this was made up, or even that the originator was joking, but I believe it was intended as truth.  When there was a big debate on what defines a planet, there were several potential new entries to the list.  When the IAU came out with its definition that excluded Pluto as well as the others on the list, many people were offended, including a columnist in the U of A newspaper (wish I could get access to the archives for you guys, but I can't figure it out.  Their names of other candidates included Xena and Charon.  The columnist was convinced that, and I'm quoting as best as I can remember, "In this era of Bush-dominated religious fanaticism, there is no room for a lesbian warrior or gods of the underworld in our solar system," or something like that.  Ridiculous!  George Bush and his open religious beliefs forced the International Astronomical Union (and Mr. Bush has always been popular among any international body) to remove any celestial body that might have a name offensive to Christians.  If you were disappointed with Pluto's demotion, blame George!

Well, my apologies.  Didn't mean to cause a ruckus.  Just trying to make some good lighthearted fun.  I really do like it here and even take part in the Lucas-poking.  But look at several of the threads on the first page here: Fatal flaw in the prequels, People vs. George Lucas, Lucas' son is Jar Jar, Feeling down about Star Wars, Best Scene for Prequels exclusive to haters, not to mention other formerly popular threads devoted to worst dialogue, worst scene, why ROTJ sucks, etc.  These are obvious in their purpose and how they end up.  I clearly don't hate Lucas myself or I wouldn't have started this thread, nor do I hate this site or I wouldn't be on here so much, interacting with many of the worst bashers on a regular basis.  The other thread simply was meant as fun and an opportunity to point out the silliness of hating the guy who actually created the product they don't like being tampered with.  I'm not offended you locked it either; I just want to make sure its intent is understood.  I actually got a laugh out of my swift punishment.

Blame George!
Time

I got in trouble this morning.  The whole event actually inspired me to create a game, and to post it here, since apparently bashing certain creators of Star Wars who will at the present remain nameless is not Star Wars related (and since about half the threads in the General Star Wars Discussion forum largely center around some flaw of this nameless individual).  I'm digressing, as I so often do...

The game I am creating is called Blame George!  However, this is not limited to George Lucas.  George W. Bush is the cause of all bad things in the world today, even problems preexisting his birth.  Well, the same goes for George Lucas, who apparently ruined something we all cherish so dearly.  Heck the non-Americans and un-Americans can join in and blame King George III for allowing the American Revolution and now the most evil Empire ever!!!  Or George Washington, because his face is on the wicked dollar.  Or George of the Jungle for harming so many trees.  You see, you can blame George for anything, even if it was not his fault.  But it's especially nice to blame George Lucas.

So basically you understand the only rule: If you want to post in this forum, you must blame George for something, preferably giving some worthless justification.  If you don't, you end up in...purgatory, or Death Valley, or something like that.  I don't actually enforce rules, so whatever.

Example: Boy, those storms on the East Coast are getting out of hand.  You know, it's because George W. didn't sign the Kyoto treaty, and now we are paying the price.  It's climate change I tell ya!

I meant the General Star Wars Discussion forum.  Others aren't nearly so bad.  And I understand that it's originaltrilogy.com, but it just amazes me that there is no end to it all.  I swear, if the world ends tomorrow, someone on this site will use their last moments to criticize George Lucas, maybe going so far as to blame him for the cataclysmic event.

What are you reading?

Finished The Hobbit and Thursday and I'm finally reading Fellowship.  I began once many years ago and never finished.  This time I'm determined to do it.  I have to say, in the intervening years between their separate releases (I think18 years), Tolkein's style drastically improved.  He's also certainly quite a bit wordier--I don't think I've ever read a longer set of introductory sections before getting to the first chapter of the actual novel.

Every film takes artistic license, but I didn't realize just how drastically the film diverged from the novel.  The movie creates a far more immediate sense of impending danger.  Right now in the book I'm at the point where the four hobbits meet a chap named Tom Bombadil.  Wow, we got none of this in the movies.  I understand that you can only transfer so much of a book to the screen, and don't get me wrong, I love the movies.  I just am surprised at how thus far much of the plot is unrecognizable to what I'd already familiarized myself with.

The Scary Door
Time

After four cups of coffee, six bran muffins, a glass of prune juice, and a sip of green tea, you make a mad dash for the rest room, only to find it locked.  You hop up and down on one foot while banging on the door and pleading for its occupant to hurry up.  Suddenly, the latch unlocks and you burst inside, only to realize you've entered...The Scary Door.

Why is it that this thread stands alone as a defense for GL among a sea of Lucas smash and bash, and my thread that actually better fits in the general mood of the General Star Wars Forum gets locked?  I think the sarcasm might have been a little too hard to detect.  I've got my beef with the guy too, but at the same time I appreciate him better than at least 75% of the folks who frequent this site.  My other thread was merely a commentary on what every thread seems to turn into in this forum.

At the same time, it makes me smile and chuckle to myself that I managed to get in trouble so quickly.  Tee hee hee.  I really do love this site.  So much fun.

I think it's pretty funny, but the humor must have escaped Anchorhead.  My point was simply that I've largely lost interest in the General Star Wars Forum because every thread starts with some gripe and ultimately turns into a GL bashing session.  I think everyone has forgotten that I myself am more on his defense, given the fact that I started a thread devoted to giving compliments.  Oh well.
