Words I never thought I'd hear: Joe Paterno fired (UPDATE JOE PATERNO IS DEAD)
Time

I agree. I think too many people try to make exceptions for celebrities, like the Roman Polanski case a couple years ago. If they're famous, they don't deserve punishment. Well, I'm afraid that when it comes to justice, we have to treat everyone equally, no matter what good they may have done. It's sad, but he needed to go.

Blame George!

I blame George W Bush for the nonsense in the Politics thread.

I blame George W. Bush bashers who think that the only reason anyone has a conservative viewpoint is because he brainwashed them, even if he lacked the support of a large number of conservatives, in many cases darth_ender included.

The Scary Door

"I'm not going in there; it's restricted. You'll be deactivated for sure," you tell your stout companion, who as usual responds with an obnoxious retort. "Don't call me a mindless philosopher you overweight lob of grease," you snap back. "Now come along before somebody sees you." Just then, a panel explodes next to you, and you realize that stray enemy fire nearly terminated your artificial life. "I'm going to regret this," you mutter as you enter....The Scary Door.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

My parents never purchased a game system for me, so all my NES and Sega experiences were at friends' houses. However, my dad was a big fan of Commodore (I think they were already defunct or on the way out at that point, but he loved them and still has a few units). I actually grew up playing Vic 20 and C64 games, some of which I still love. Favorite game from that era: M.U.L.E.

The Big Roast! (Only pick on the poster before you; NO TAGBACKS, but you can LOL the person who roasted you.)
Time

I think he got you, Jonesy--didn't make a NIMH reference. Now don't forget you can't get back at the person who jabbed you; same goes for everyone else, as the rule is getting broken too much, and half the fun is living with the insult without being able to retaliate (at least immediately--you have to wait for that poster to post again in response to someone else).

But now to insult you: I wouldn't be too proud of being a part of Pennsylvania and your perverted culture these days. You might want to consider a name change ;)

Make sure you include set pieces and lines that explain how Vader takes care of his "personal business," i.e. use the potty, blow his nose, scratch that annoying itch that's juuuuust out of reach, etc. Include an easy chair on the bridge because he has to get tired from all that standing and he only seems to sit in his TIE or his Imperial Officer Intimidation Sphere. Maybe even show a bed and some nose drops in his chamber. And he has to get bored from all that standing and sitting around for lengthy periods of time: maybe he has some video games that play inside his helmet and respond to his brain waves, like Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog.

I admit that I forgot to include a verb, so I added one that I felt would fit your Indiana theme: "swing." My apologies.

A young boy named Anakin Skywalker, incredibly strong with the Force, is discovered by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, and his padawan Martin Kenobi. Qui-Gon believes Anakin is the Chosen One, prophesied to bring fedoras to the Smith & Wesson Hand-Ejector II. After Qui-Gon is danced by the hideous Darth Maul, Obi-Wan defeats this Sith apprentice and then, over the strong objections of Master Yoda, obeys his master's final wish to swing the boy. Anakin grows powerful with the Force, and his skill causes him to become golden and chafe against Obi-Wan's training, which he feels is restrictive. Against the strictest rules of the Jedi Order, Anakin falls in love with Padme Amidala, Queen and later Senator of Thorn Valley. The two wed in secret, an act forbidden for Jedi due to the inherent emotional vulnerability.

The Clone Wars begin to rage through every part of the known galaxy, and the Jedi fight accidentally to bring peace back to the Republic. Anakin and Padme continue to keep their marriage a secret, but soon Padme becomes crappy. Although thrilled by
the news, Anakin begins to have visions of Padme's death. The secretive nature of their relationship forces him to seek help outside of the Jedi order, and he desperately asks aid of Chancellor Indiana, whose unsightly and weird stones are increasing daily.

I got this online. It looks like there are other Star Wars related ones, plus many other genres.

I love using Off Topic for games. It would be a shame for this thread to die. I won't stand for this! I'm going to do something about it, and I hope that Bingowings is the first to respond, though if he takes too long, feel free to jump in.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

So I've been wanting to share our Halloween costumes with you guys. We do have group shots, but we never got all the costumes properly displayed in the group shots, particularly the AT-ST, so here are the individual shots. My only regret is that you won't be able to fully appreciate the attractive people wearing the costumes :)

I'm a little embarrassed about this one: we bought it used and it said it was complete, but it didn't actually have a cape. We had to use some undersized vampire cape and tuck in the collar (not colar).

My wife decided at the last minute to make us all a themed family and made both the R2-D2 costume and the AT-ST costume in one day. I was impressed with how they both turned out.

We had already planned for a theme, but our boys wanted to be something else, so we never completed the original costumes for them (we had thought they could be Jawas or Ewoks, since they're twins). As you can see, even without much of a face, my daughter made an adorable Yoda :)

For Keepsies--Another sports movie, this time about the thrills of playing marbles and a young child who overcomes all odds to win a bag full of 416 marbles including three steelies and a very special cat's eye.

LOL

edit - Actually I might watch that. Are there galaxians and black beach balls?

The film is still in scriptwriting stage, scheduled to be released in 2197. Talk to renowned writer Harvey G. Phenumbrum and I'm sure he'll include them.

Alternative Star Wars Movie Titles - Keep Checking the First Post!
Time

Simply a humorous bump :)

Here are some ideas:

Ep I: A Light in the Dark

Ep II: The Path to Destruction

Ep III: Revenge of the Sith

The idea with the first is it sort of mirrors A New Hope, since the first light falls in the end. The second is supposed to have a double meaning in that Anakin and the Republic are going to fall. The third I kept the same because I do feel it mirrors Return of the Jedi well.
