Episode II: Attack of the Ridiculousness ***NEW 14 MONTH ANNIVERSARY DVD NOW AVAILABLE***

I'd like to solicit more feedback on the Dooku clip.  Slugs liked it but no one else has commented yet and I've had a few people on FE say they don't think it works.  Anyone else care to comment?

I like it a lot.  My primary suggestion would be simply shortening it, something like the classic record scratch partway through and Obi-wan saying, "Well, I hope it doesn't take too long."  Just a thought.

Thanks.  That'd be appreciated.  Who knows if it will be productive, but it's nice to know what resources we have at our disposal.  Interesting footage, BTW.  Looks fun, and maybe a few seconds could be grabbed from there.

So I didn't even realize what we had in our very own OT.com:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Tours-preservation-dvd/topic/9476/page/1/

From there I found this link:

http://www.martinsvids.net/?p=663

This looks promising, but my Internet is going so slow at the present that I can't watch this streaming.  I'll give it a look later and see if it has a decent quality version of the movie.  Here's hoping.

Ooh, that reminds me, Bingo...if you can think of any lines from the radio adaptation that would be useful, I think it'd be swell (I love that word!).  I know only Anthony Daniels played in ROTJ, but perhaps Mark Hamill and Billy Dee Williams had some line not used in the films that could be put in a different context and made useful in our edit.  If you can't tell, I've been seeking out alternate video and audio that might be useful.

Thanks for the response, Ron.  I know you're learning the tricks.  Are you able to do color correction yet?  You can download a fairly good quality video of Star Tours using keep-vid.com.

By the way, here are the mp3s for the Interactive Board Game.  I suspect any Vader lines would need to be filtered to sound more like the mechanical movie Vader.  It sounds too much like good ol' JEJ often, but still I think there is potential there.  The VOB files had some problems, so I have been unable to simply extract the audio from them.  I had to use Freecorder instead, which did the trick but took a long time.  I was trying to turn the 60 minute movie into approximately 15 minute mp3s, but it split a couple of them again, so there are two 2 minute mp3s.  Also be aware that much of the movie/game is simply watching the DSII move against a starry background with Williams music in the background.  I didn't take the time to simply record the lines, so you'll have to search for and extract whatever you want.

Actually, this one maybe has some potentially useful footage.  Sorry to be stuck on the same note, guys.  It's just all good fun to me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=fvwp&v=liCZyhNS7v8

Since these have all been publicly released on television, I think it would be about the same gray area of the law as anything else this site has done.

The old guy in the green shirt on the left fancies the younger guy in the green shirt on the right.... I would not want to use this footage Darth Ender....

I'm sure it's good fun what but really fake bad advertising acting....

Obviously.  The point isn't to keep all that stuff.  The point is maybe to keep one or two seconds, minus original audio, of the the flight towards the Death Star, and maybe a second of the flight out of it as well.  However, as you and I both said, it's all in good fun, so if it doesn't work, no biggie.  It does look very obviously CGI in many instances, but the approach towards the Death Star is potentially useful if we don't get to the entrance.

Only winding you up....

Of course it worked.  My question again is whether it is possible to use this stuff or not?  Can the original Star Tours have color correction applied to a few seconds to improve the way it looks?  Can we add our own special effects on top of that?

Alright, I'm done.  A few words of note: I did not tally fishmanlee's music cues.  The reason for this is because most people did not actually listen to them, and simply didn't mark anything, or marked all maybes or all yeses.  I felt it would be an inaccurate representation of people's feelings if I simply went with that.

Here is the file with all the tallies:

http://www.4shared.com/office/gYgPZgKC/Vote_2_tally.html

It includes everyone's original votes, plus the tally.  If there are any discrepancies or miscounts, let me know.

^I truly wouldn't be surprised in the least :)

So I'm extracting all the audio for the Interactive board game.  I'll provide it to everyone so people can fiddle around with Vader's lines and decide how some of the lines may be used.

I'm still working on the votes.  Sorry it's taking so long, but I'll have it up today.  Some technical difficulties have resulted in a couple of delays, and I'll have to post one as a latecomer, but I'll have the majority up very soon.

Here's the best quality version of Star Tours 2 I can find with the DSII footage (probably really supposed to be the DSI in construction around Geonosis, for those really thinking that Star Tours contributes to Star Wars continuity, though it looks just like the DSII).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fkcK28fgw4&feature=related

Of course it's in 3D, and it's still a crappy handheld camera.  I don't know if anything is possible with any of this, but it's at least fun to imagine.

Harmy, the second link you provided in Japanese is the best quality version I've seen tonight.  The color sure is awful, but I wonder how fixable certain portions are.  The workprint on Return of the Ewok and the Star Tours documentary are simply unusable.

I must confess, it's always been a slight annoyance that ANH uses the exact same shot of the entrance to the trench.  If Star Tours footage were fixed up, I wonder if it would be usable is somebody's edit (not likely Adywan's considering we'll never get the video quality he's seeking).  Just an interesting thought, as the footage is similar enough to pass as the same trench run, but distinct as well.

As for ROTJ, I think a couple seconds skimming the Death Star surface could be useful.  Perhaps portions of the trench run could serve some other minor plot point, like taking out some shield generator protecting the entrance or something.  I don't know...also the shots of the Star Destroyers, particularly the closeup of the hangar might be worthwhile.

Do the experts know how possible it is to clean up portions of the footage and upscale as much as possible?

Too bad even finding a decent bootleg of Star Tours 2 would bring down the immediate wrath of LFL.  However, I wonder if they'd mind if some borrowing took place from their advertisements.

It even has a shot of the Death Star II.  I wish we were able to see more of that and even make use of it.

I'm just thinking it's a pity George has never released the original Star Tours movie footage.  Even if it were silent, it would still be useful. It would be cool to even try incorporating some of the shots used in that movie into our little edit.  I'm sure we could get a few seconds of useful material out of that which could make the edit unique.  This is the closest thing I've seen, and obviously it's worthless for an edit.

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=video&cd=3&sqi=2&ved=0CEQQtwIwAg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dr9CWq5JmGOs&ctbm=vid&ei=oAMeT9blKcKciAK-hrHjCw&usg=AFQjCNFKWDOYrE4eEr2wCHl_PP8XYgUkMw&sig2=42BeNq_TA9YW83tZQ-I1ig

EDIT: Having said that, a little research led me to realize that the Star Tours video Return of the Ewok video from preserv.22web.net both might have a decent quality of the video.  I really think there might be a few seconds of material that could expand the space battle a bit.  Like I said, even just a few seconds can go a long way.  Look at ANH:R where Adywan reused some ROTJ footage to great effect (it wasn't that obvious, Ronster ;)   So knowing this makes me excited to have another source to draw upon!

Well, I just looked at it with a different browser that I hadn't tried to log in with (apparently once I tried, I couldn't even view it as a guest anymore).  In the other browser I see the response.  I guess I might not have read the only real response (I think I'm only remembering responses to my introduction).  Man, they are touchy over there.

Well, now they won't even let me log in and see their responses.  I read a couple responses over the next couple of days, but now I can't read anything.  It's heartbreaking *sob*  If they're really that narrow-minded over there, then I'm glad I stirred up a hornets nest.

We just held vote 2 on items we had discussed in this forum.  It was limited to those who had participated in the discussion between the first and second vote, and is closed at this point and I'm tallying things up, and waiting for a couple of stragglers.  But we will have a third vote soon, and from there we will pretty much finalize the story.  You are definitely invited to take part in the third round of votes and any other decision making processes we go through as long as you remain a consistent participant.

Imperial CPS becomes involved in the Skywalker case upon learning of domestic abuse between the husband and wife.  The children are placed in separate foster homes.  Vader, upon learning that he has offspring, tries to seek out his children to reestablish contact.  He is required to take domestic violence and anger management courses, and ultimately his children want nothing to do with him.  The opening crawl is accompanied by the Days of Our Lives theme song.
