Collaborative Fanediting: An ROTJ Proposition (BACK ON TRACK WITH EMANSWFAN AT THE HELM--SEE POST 1488 OR OP FOR A LINK!)

If nothing else, it would be grand simply to get in touch with some folks already happy to make fan films and ask them to film footage for us.  I'm not sure where to turn for that.  Johannus was looking to contact some folks in the UK for costumes, but some people simply want constumes for conventions and the like.  How could we get in touch with someone willing to film actual material?

I again will state what I said before, I think we currently have a good option for Fett's demise at the hands of Luke, following Ronster's suggestion.  However, I know I'd find it more fulfilling if Boba survived and got to face off with Han once more on Endor.  I'm not sure how we would accomplish this, especially given the limited footage and flexibility in the story.  But assuming we could film and integrate Boba Fett shots into the existing film, how could we actually create a scene where Han gets to take him out and bring about a more worthy ending for the bounty hunter?

Worst/Best Villains in Star Wars Lore.

I used to think Tarkin was just obnoxious, interfering with the cool Darth Vader when I was a kid.  And I imagined that when he approached Leia saying, "I grow tired of asking this..." I couldn't help but imagine some old man with bad breath breathing, "Hhhhhwhere is the Rebel base?" across her face and up her nostrils.  But now as an adult, I find his character very fascinating, a very different villain from Vader, but quite threatening and interesting in his own regard.

I think Dooku had potential but was wasted.

And I have to admit, when I first came up with darth_ender, it was an homage to Darth Maul, though now I prefer to relate it to Darth Vader, still a very cool bad guy.

And now I know where Ronster got some of his other footage.  Perhaps something here could also be integrated into our film if we decide to have Boba chase down Han all the way to Endor.  We shall see.

Hey, don't stress.  You didn't use Star Tours 1 footage either.  The quality is low on these videos.  I've emailed asking for permission to use some of their footage, but I have a feeling they will say no if they say anything at all.  But we might get lucky and get a decent quality source.  Who knows?

As for your ideas, I'm still thinking about the specifics you mentioned.  I'll get back to you.

Looks like there are a couple of trailers.  Gosh, it looks like that film too is frozen in development.  Too bad, as that looks really flippin' cool!

I didn't realize what a resource some of these fan films could be.  I don't know why.  I hope some of you will do some scavenging for anything potentially useful.  This could really expand our possibilities and save us work.

^^While I agree that it would be better to use Shaw, I personally feel that Luke looks emotional.  He's surprised at the outset to see him (to me, it looks like Luke is gasping a bit), and after Anakin disappears, Luke looks to have a feeling of assurance on his face.  He's not thrilled, per se, but he feels satisfied.  That's the emotion I get anyway.

Interesting cut, Ron.  You did good work.  I am already putting your new opening and the worms in the sand up for vote, and many of the other ideas you incorporated were already voted on and/or incorporated into the script.  Again, is there anything you want me to put up that I didn't think of?

Too bad I didn't see anymore Rebel footage.  I did send an email out to a guy who was making a fan film (now apparently on hiatus) that included commandos to see if he has anything useful he might be willing to share.  Awaiting a response.

Guys, I think the hardest parts of our edit would be the actual filming of new material.  Therefore I want to keep my eyes open for new footage we could use instead of filming our own.  Anyone interested in seeking out new stuff would be appreciated.

Saw this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw_VPREHnpY

It has a bunch of dudes in Fett armor, set in a forest.  It occurs to me, as I'd mentioned it long ago, that it would be more interesting for Boba Fett to try and take out Han on Endor.  I don't know if this could be worked into our plans, but it just keeps me thinking.  I really feel like that would be the most fitting fate for Fett (alliterative fun!).  Still pondering, and I think there is something that could actually be made useful here...

Watching Ronster's cut now, and I have to admit there are interesting ideas there.  While I personally want to keep the opening the way we already have it, I really like what Ron did with this one.  Very exciting, fast paced, and informative in that it tells us how the Rebels get the plans.  Again, not my preferred opening, but a well-thought alternative.

I'm at the Battle of Endor now, and I'm wondering where Ron got some of the Rebel commando footage!?  This sort of thing would truly be helpful and save us some work if we can find decent size quantities of it.  Ronster's shots were very brief, but potentially useful.  Hoping for more.  I'm going to keep watching.

Okay, let me reason it this way: it's confusing.  Somebody who didn't follow our project would think, "What the heck?!  Why are there two shots of Anakin?"   Furthermore, it detracts from the emotion of the final scene if he is already seen, IMO.  Instead of more heartwarming feelings, I believe I would feel less.  It's an interesting idea, and I really did put some thought into it, but I just don't think it would work.

If you are serious (not the question that makes me wonder, but the way you ask it), it does seem a bit like overkill...on the other hand...

That may not be so bad either, especially the old and young versions both shown...but I'm still not so sure.

To me, the advantage of showing Anakin at the funeral (now placed as the very last scene for those who have not followed this thread long) is that Luke gets to see Yoda and Ben and feels, "Hey, there are those two guys I always knew were good role models and father figures...Nice to see them again."  Then at the funeral pyre he burns his father, unsure about his eternal fate--but then he sees his daddy's spirit!  "Oh wow!  My dad truly did redeem himself.  I thought I saw the last of him on the Death Star.  But now I know he's good to go."  It just seems like too much to show both IMHO.

That is flippin' awesome, aalenfae.  You've brought what I think is a brilliant idea to life.  Of course I still hope we can talk you into doing a version with a Sebastian Shaw head, but again, I think your video makes for a very emotional ending.  I hope everyone else sees it the same way now.  That really is an awesome vid, and I personally feel it would be the ideal way to end the Star Wars saga.

That's pretty cool sounding, fishmanlee.  The timpani drumming certainly adds a lot of tension.

Ron, I've got it downloaded, but I won't be able to watch anything till later, but I'm not sure when.  It will probably take me a few days to get through it.  The rest of this week is murder for me.

That's great news, Ron old chap.  Can't wait to see it.

So I was thinking, if the Ewoks are made to sound more dangerous, I guess we're going to need to redub their voices.  This gives us an opportunity to alter their language, but it also might mean we will have to redub C3PO when he is speaking Ewokese.  This got me thinking about how I never much cared for his interpretations as they sound like an British English speaker saying a bit of gibberish.  So the question is, should we redub C3PO's lines, particularly Ewokese lines to match the tone of the Ewoks themselves?  I can do a decent impersonation, I feel, and you can check my impersonations to see for yourselves.  Maybe someone can do better.  Anyway, if we do start dubbing and find my voice or someone else's acceptable, we actually are then given a great deal of leeway in storytelling, as just a few changed lines can drastically alter a story.  Perhaps we can do more than has already been suggested.  Am I the only one who does not care for Threepio's interpretation?

As for the Ewoks themselves speaking, I guess we could all pitch in a bit on the voices, as long as we sound not so cute and have a consistent sounding "language."

I do.  I side with you rather than xhonzi (sorry buddy).  Clearly if Luke had killed Vader, the Emperor believed that such would have been sufficient to make him an evil replacement.  That was the point, the drama of Luke's decision.

This is why Anakin's turning points had already passed, either with the killing of the sand people or the killing of Duke Dooku ;)
