So I saw the Avengers on Monday.  Did things a bit out of order.  I won't add much, but after watching Avengers, I then saw Thor.  I would generally say that if you only saw one of the individual hero's movies beforehand, this is the most important, but having seen it out of order, I think I got a bit of a different perspective that I am grateful for.  The common antagonist seems like a typical megalomaniac in The Avengers, and I therefore prefer him in Thor.  While not a fantastic movie, the most enjoyable part of Thor was that same antagonist before he develops more grandiose schemes, and I like him far better.  He's actually quite sympathetic and interesting, and I don't know if I'd appreciate that as much had I seen the films in the correct order.  Just my thought.

Collaborative Fanediting: An ROTJ Proposition (BACK ON TRACK WITH EMANSWFAN AT THE HELM--SEE POST 1488 OR OP FOR A LINK!)
Time

So I just thought I better give some kind of update on this.  Without better organization or a budget or folks with more time, this probably couldn't easily happen at the present.  I feel like there is a great deal of interest in a project of this nature.

But clearly this project has come to a halt and I feel my role has largely ended as well.  My final exam is on Monday, and after that I will try to complete the updated script based on the most recent vote.  From there, I will put the script up in the script-writing section, and hopefully it can serve as an inspiration for multitudes of OT.com patrons.  Perhaps someone else can pick up the torch of this project and run with it.  But in the end, it's not all a big waste.  It was a creative project filled with numerous ideas that can perhaps be used to inspire future edits.  Even the method of creating this edit may inspire a future, more successful collaborative edit.

Oh!  Just thought of a good Mormon connection!  Chris Pine is the son of actor Robert Pine, who played in the Mormon film entitled On the Way Home.

Robert Pine

Chris Pine

You know that Adam Sandler song about famous Jews?  I think I should do a Mormon version ;)  Of course those in Mormon culture know just how many weird and phony rumors abound on that topic.  To my knowledge, Robert is not actually Mormon.

Star Tours - preservation dvd (Released)
Time

It just seems strange to me that I'm the only one who really seems interested in this thread.  I think Star Tours is awesome!  Oh well.  I've created a DVD of Star Tours.  It contains:

-Martin's HQ Ultimate Tribute

-Martin's Star Tours 2 with all variations

-The best on-ride footage I've found

-Two different versions of the time-coded workprint (one very yellow and non-interlaced, the other more brown and interlaced)

-Star Tours Origins in CGI

The menu is simply a crappy static menu with the Star Tours logo, but it suffices.  PM me if you are interested :)

Still miss the ride.  My one true BTTF childhood soft spot...

It's just not the same, man.  I own the DVD with it, but watching it without the motion simulator would ruin any and all memory I have of it so I've chosen not to do a rewatch.

I know, it's not the same.  I only got to see Star Tours once in the simulator, more than a decade ago.  Now I've done my very best to track down a decent version of it, with relatively little success.  This is the only way I'll ever get to enjoy for the rest of forever, but I totally understand why you don't want to watch it.  Just thought it might help :)

Seriously, dude, sometimes it seems like you're just looking for things to gripe about...

"Sometimes?"

And I'd agree with you about The Village -- it's one of my two favourite Shyamalan films (the other being Unbreakable).  I think what ruined it for audiences was that it was marketed as a horror/thriller, when in fact I'd categorize it as a romance (albeit set against a backdrop with elements of horror in it).  While admittedly the twist in this film was a little predictable and had become a cliché for Shyamalan by this point, unlike The Sixth Sense the film doesn't rely on the surprise ending to work.  I've seen it a number of times, and I've actually enjoyed it more with each viewing.

Shyamalan takes a lot of unneeded criticism.  I enjoy The Village for the same reasons.  I remember the first time I saw it, I loved the romantic plot (yes, I'm a sucker for that sort of thing).  I have to say the same applies with Signs, as the comic above illustrates.  I honestly missed the marketing campaign, but I suspect most folks interpret the film as a sci-fi, when in reality it's a suspense film about faith, with sci-fi elements.  Digging into the realism of those elements detracts from the real intent.

Heck, very popular sci-fi films still have stupid aliens.  Look at Independence Day.  Super intelligent aliens have Windows 95 compatible computer programs that can be hacked into in a short amount of time.  They are incapable of detecting a thermonuclear device boarding their ship on a 30 year absent and likely extremely outdated fighter.  They don't wonder for far too long why the pilot on this ship is just hanging out and hiding when they open the "power windows."  Perhaps we can justify that they don't have reliable lifeform scanners on their ships, or at least that could distinguish a human from an alien, but I find this unlikely.  And though they communicate telepathically, they use touchscreen technology and 16 bit graphics.  Their battleships are heavily armored, but if you destroy their powerful energy beam projector, the whole ship comes tumbilng down.  You'd think they'd armor that above all else.  I thought these were brilliant aliens.

However, if we are trying to be apologists, we could make some assumption about signs, like perhaps the aliens that actually attacked the earth were some inferior beings, not the actual creators of the technology.  All they seem to have in their favor is physical prowess, so perhaps they are like hounds that the brainy aliens sent to the earth to kill off in preparation of their takeover.  They could even be completely expendable, so they don't care.  Of course, the movie doesn't explain this, so we are left nothing to go on.  But again, the point of the film isn't to be a realistic sci-fi film.  It's a religious suspense film.

Dark Knight Rises - Now that we know the cast
Time

I think I agree with every word Gaffer Tape has said, both with relation to the films and the cartoons.

To give the cartoons some credit, I believe there was an episode where he was going to receive corrective surgery and simultaneously eliminate his evil side, which gave his character more of a motive.  But I hear what you're saying: the origins were fascinating, and then the bad guys just became another baddie with his/her own gimmick.

I tried to give Dark Knight another look a few months ago.  My original opinion still holds;

I gave my opinion at the start of this same thread, and its clones as well ;)  I too didn't think it was the masterpiece others had hyped it to be.  But sitting down and watching it without over-analyzing it, I simply do enjoy it.  And I do prefer the whole nature of Nola's series to Burton's/Schumacher's.  I used to really love '89, but the most recent time I watched it, I realized how much I didn't enjoy anymore (not that I don't enjoy it at all, but it feels far weaker than it used to).  Returns has never appealed to me, as I find it too cartoonish and Penguin way over the top and the whole mayoral election to be completely ridiculous.  But I am interested as to why folks like it so much.

Dark Knight Rises - Now that we know the cast

I will say this.  It recently came to light that his voice was altered post-production.

I know his voice has been poked at countless times, but here are some more funny videos.

It never bothered me as much as it seems to bug the majority.  The only time I really hated it was when he says, "This city just showed you it believes in something good" (something like that).  I really liked his voice in Begins.

EDIT: Fixed the link stating that his voice was altered in post production.
